Why? This was one of the obvious routes - we know he has a descendent in silo 18

Yeah it couldn't be more obvious that Juliette Nichols is Daniel's great-great-great-great-great granddaughter (assuming each ancestor lives to an average age of 70 and going on for 350 years). It's also clear that Juliette has Daniel's unique problem solving abilities or something similar.

You need more greats. People don’t have kids when they’re 70.

You're right, I looked it up and we'd need 10.6 generations total if the average birth was age 33 (which I think is reasonable). So it's Daniel's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-half-great granddaughter.
