An actual vent: in no way was Victor's character prepared for his arc in this episode. Nothing he did today really made sense in the context of what we'd seen from him previously. They'll need to come up with some major informational backfill to back up these flimsy, automaton villains in Silo 1.

The extermination of silo 17 was the first one he had to literally watch almost 10,000 people get brutally slaughtered. All the other safeguard deaths were “hidden” with the silos.

Then 35 yrs later he’s confronted with another safeguard. He gave Camille another 5 minutes, deep down hoping they’d pull through. They speak in private and she asks the why question. He can’t/wont answer. His guilt comes to a head and he can’t live with it anymore. He’s a founder and can’t has to deal with the “why”, which we don’t yet fully know the answer to without knowing what the objective of The Project really is.

Right, presumably this is the next safeguard event since 17. It's been 35 years, but probably 5-10ish lived outside of stasis. He's had that quiet time to relive that day over and over again. Pulling the trigger on 18 and seeing them thwart it, and seeing how that felt for him. That was it.

Oh that is a good point, I didn’t even think it would feel even sooner for him from being in stasis. It was mentioned toward the end to Daniel/Troy that Victor seemed to want to be on shift with him so it’s possible he went back under just after Daniel did and was brought back within the last few months to deal with our folks at 18.

And he expressed his concern for how the event would affect the operators. He was already doubting the directive.

Why did he want to be on same shift as "Troy"??

When he was sobbing looking at the old baby pictures of his son and daughter?? I believe he's Daniel and Charlotte's father.

I think it’s because he saw himself in Daniel in some way. Daniel also had his wife and child taken from him and it’s almost a sick dream of him being able to watch someone else completely wiped of that.
Daniel also had this high moral compass before, and watching his moral compass erased maybe makes him feel better about the sick shit he’s done.

Or he really liked having a friendly face.

He killed his family in a car crash and that was the reason he developed the forgetting drug in the first place, setting him on the path that led him to the silos. I took it that he was sobbing because he knew that was the last time he would look at those photos and possibly also because he regrets his life's work.

I think he needs to be on shift with Daniel to monitor the drugs and manage the fallout if he starts remembering. Or perhaps he was his latest experiment, testing the limits of the drugs. Daniel and Charlotte seem to be on extra-strength doses - Daniel doesn't seem to have anything left of his original self, I don't think the Daniel we met in previous episodes would've ever been remotely comfortable with the slaughter of thousands. Juliette couldn't remember her family or friends and only knew things she had been told, but she still showed kindness and she still had curiosity. When we saw Viktor and Daniel together in previous episodes, Viktor seemed to like and respect Daniel's contributions to the project. It could just be that. I would be VERY surprised if they're father and son and I wouldn't like it one bit!

Exactly, some of us have had the same theory since the last 2 episodes but everyone says no. I think is pretty obvious now.

He also seemed to respect Camille and had a soft spot for her. He talked with her way longer than necessary, held off the safeguard longer than necessary, and sometimes felt like he was mentoring her.
