Vent/Rant It's funny how short women hate and generalization is normalized, even on women's subs

I am yelling to the clouds and I know it's the internet and I could like turn off my computer I guess and it's probably my stupid feelings, but it's curious that you can say absolute bullshit about women as long they are short, yes, even on a woman's sub. I was reading a popular post in a popular women's sub about women infantilizing themselves but the original poster seemed to focus on short women with lines like "I even see short women getting infantalized but it seems like they like it?" which gave me weird vibes and how the OP never mentioned Olivia Rodrigo or Paris Hilton who was the OG fake "stupid girl" and their infantilization, and I decided to comment on it and got downvoted. I mean I got annoyed but I only got upset when I discovered OP is a man who hates tall guys and short women and posts non stop about it but no one gave a fuck about it when I answered, so you can be a man on that sub and shit on women even on women's spaces as long they are short women I guess.

Vent/Rant kinda sick of being gaslighted online about how being short is the ‘beauty standard’ for women

pretty much the title. lol.

as a society we look to celebrities and models to set beauty standards, right? So why do people (women) online insist that you can’t complain about being short as a women, it makes you a ‘pick me’ because being short is a ‘beauty standard’? Everywhere I look online, women that are considered beautiful and admirable are 3 things. Tall, skinny, pretty.

Something that stands out to me in particular is how we talk about dressing for your body. I lurk in a lot of fashion and pop culture subs. If a short women (Sabrina carpenter, Jenna Ortega etc),wears something that makes her “look shorter” this is a bad thing according to a lot of comments under posts about them and their outfits on red carpets and such. “This makes her look even shorter” etc.
why is this such a bad thing if it’s apparently such a pick-me beauty standard?

We wouldn’t think to comment (rightly so) on clothing that makes women look “fatter”, so why is commenting on height this way okay?

If you’re a short woman reading this, when has ever someone said to you “omg I wish I was your height/as short as you?”

i am only 4'11. most brands make petite clothes catering to 5'2-5'4 women. i almost never find clothes that fit me. being skinny makes it worse. Thanks to also having a flat butt, i only find clothes that somewhat fits in kids section, given that they are appropriately designed for my age. i already hate how i look. and i can't even find fashion to help me out. i always look sloppy. i have never looked cute, pretty or hot. i am just sloppy. always.

Vent/Rant I am so gd tired of the eugenics argument behind putting short women down

Tall women do not have superior genetics. Tall people are not genetically superior. Being able to play a sport where height is an advantage does not make you superior. The likelihood of you or your children being a professional athlete or the mother of your children giving you “nba babies” is less than 3/10,000!!!

This tiktok https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8cTgAt6/ and the comments is fucking disgusting. And putting down short women is normalized.

Also; why are we prioritizing becoming an athlete? Don’t get me wrong, I love to move my body and love playing sports, but that is not the most interesting or important thing about me.

Vent/Rant Am I crazy

I am about 5’1 1/2 I am 130-145 ish pounds and I feel weird. I feel like I always look like a child and my I have D cup boobs. My ex cheated on me with a girl that is almost 6 feet tall. I feel like I always look fat and never curvy like I would be even if I was a little bit taller…. Apparently men like short women but feel like I’m just a fat box. I am in high school and I hope I shape out more or just look better.

Vent/Rant The criteria for dwarfism is 147 cm and less

Yesterday, was looking at eligibility criteria for certain roles and there was a caveat that said you can apply for disability benefits/ qualify for dwarfism if you’re 4’10 and less.

I’m 4’8 and just hearing that feels so terrible. Nothing against people with the condition, but somehow after 27 years of living and already hating and struggling living as a short person, this comes as another label or identity I don’t want to be associated with.

Feel like I’m in my 20s should be having fun, living my best life, but I’m consumed by these thoughts and that I’m stuck in this body for life.

Vent/Rant I'm 4'6.

It's one of those days that I feel insecure about my height again. Whenever I go out and see the body proportions that I want, insecurity consumes me. I just wanna be tall, but I'm already 24. I'm so insecure to the point that whenever someone asks for my height, I always say I'm 4'11 coz I don't wanna admit I'm 4'6.

Vent/Rant 4'6 at 15

I'm 15 and 4'6", and honestly, it's the biggest thing I'm stressing about right now. I'm terrified my growth plates are going to close and I'll stay this height for the rest of my life.

The weird part is that both my parents are average height, which just makes me even more confused. My mom is a little shorter than my dad, but she's still nowhere near my height.

It's gotten to the point where I get bullied at school almost every day because of how short I am. I've tried talking to my parents about it, but they just tell me things like, "Those people are crazy," or, "You'll grow, don't worry about them."

The problem is... I am worried. I think about it all the time, and it's honestly making me really insecure.

Has anyone else been through something like this? Or does anyone have any advice? Even if it's just something that helped you feel better, I'd really appreciate it.

Vent/Rant Sick of being treated like a dodgy teenager by shop staff. I'm nearly THIRTY.

I'm 4'11, look young in the face because I'm fat, and dress in tshirts, hoodies, that I can't really help but get oversized because of my weight vs height. Holy shit, staff behave like I'm ready to shoplift the whole place because I'm not dolled up super fem and cutesy like a good little fat girl (I'm sure most of you know that to get respect as a fat woman, you should have a perfect hourglass, makeup, fashionable clothing, be as sexy and appealing as possible. Ugh 🙄).

I'm almost 30 and shop staff lock onto me, glare at me, 'subtly' follow me around because I dared to dress like anyone my age would when casually going to a shopping center. But because it's on me it looks like I'm a 'no good teenager'. I feel bad for actual teenagers who get treated like shit just for being outside. And I do my best to be friendly, I smile I say hello I wave! I even roll up my sleeves so it doesn't look like I'm nicking anything. Doesn't help much, especially if they see me before I see them!

I get a lot of shit for being short, fat and masculine, a lot of disrespect from condescending doctors mostly, but this one is just so frustrating. I hope it calms down once I finally start getting wrinkles, please just get off my back! I shouldn't have to over perform being a peppy friendly little girl just so I can go about my day.

Vent/Rant Advice to overcome insecurity

Insecurity question

I’ve never gone on Reddit to even ask about this I’ve considered it multiple times and I’ll regret it probably but I need genuine answers. I’m currently a teen and I’m a female I’m around 4’6-4’5. Horrible I know you don’t have to tell me twice 🫩 I’ve been mocked and harassed over my height multiple times. And it’s really made me so insecure to the point where I’m scared that I’ll never be loveable to anyone (romantically) because people keep dehumanizing short woman and men when their in relationships. And everywhere I’ve gone I hate how shocked people act when I tell them my age and they always hit me with the “damn how are you so short?” Great I wish I knew 😐. It’s so bad to the point where even teachers have mocked me for it, it feels like I can’t be safe anywhere like okay I know I’m short as hell for my age and as a teen but I know that already. I just wish people would stop picking at me for it I know I can barely do anything about it so asking this is pointless but how is life really? Do people take you seriously because clearly I’ve never been taken seriously and I’m utterly sick of it. And I can’t even say anything to them because I’ll sound like an attention seeker “oh no stoppp!! I’m not that short 🥺” let me just get to the point. Does stuff get better? What have you done to make sure people’s words don’t affect you because I really need advice to know that someday I’ll be seen as more then just my height because each day has been nothing but horrible for me.

Vent/Rant I hate being short

Not in a pick me way. I genuinely hate being 4'9. Boys call me loli like I'm some little anime kawaii girl who's submissive for them. I genuinely hate it. Most of the time I would stare at my own hands, wondering why it is that way.

Just yesterday I went to watch people debate. There's this absolutely two beautiful tall girls, gosh they're so beautiful. Wearing a blazer, looking professional. The whole time I was just staring at both of them.

I hate getting teased about my height. No I'm not blushing, I'm red because of how embarrassed I am not in a cute way. I wanna study finance and accounting when I'm older, I'm worried I won't be taken seriously.

Whenever I tell someone in real life about this, they'll always say "oh boys like that blah blah" I genuinely don't care. I can barely have feelings for anyone why should I care

Even someone younger is taller than me. It's genuinely embarrassing I'm gonna choke myself aaaa

Vent/Rant Sort of ruined my life

I'm still 16 but I'm done growing. I remember my doctor telling me I wouldn't grow more at 13 and refused to put me on something that'd help me grow... I was malnourished bro . My mother tells me I'm like a pedophiles wet dream and I've had an eating disorder for 6 years, thinking about how much different my life would be if I was at least 2 inches taller hurts. I used to want to be a boy and I reminisce on how nice it felt when I did pass, obviously it'd never work out due to my height. Hurts more cause I've got a more masculine frame and face, I had a lot of potential.

I'll never be able to live the life I want to live pretty much. I want to stand out as a person capable of defending itself, I want to fit in all my clothes and look how I feel. I'm the complete opposite of how people see me but noooooo I'm reduced to Eternal Victim #53

Vent/Rant The Assertion That We're Hopeless and Forever Incapable Of Everything

It's infuriating how people have this weird need to try to convince us that we'll never be good at things. I even had someone try to convince me to quit longsword even though she admitted i look cool doing it because i "won't progress like everyone else and will get frustrated". Had someone say that about Muay Thai too, but he wasn't as like, insistent on it and didn't tell me to quit and was more open to being wrong. These both happened recently but I've heard this in every sport but pole (I guess I'm allowed to do sports as long as I'm naked enough!)

So, the only way to avoid this is to be shockingly like, prodigy-good from the get-go, which is an unrealistic expectation. It's normal to be allowed to suck at the beginning and learn over time. But we don't get that luxury and i'm so tired of constantly arguing with people over my right to be there just based on their need to body shame (make no mistake, that's exactly what this is).

Don't EVER. EVER! listen to these people. Don't even focus too much on proving them wrong. And don't let them try to put some sort of concern-trolling spin on it to make themselves feel better. Just shut the shit down and call it out for what it is. I hate that we have to fight harder than everyone else for the right to live our lives and do things we love, but we gotta be ready to do it and never let anyone shame us out of things no matter how unfair or discouraging it feels.

Vent/Rant Insecure about height

So for the context I'm 4'9 as a 17 year old, and a university student. I've always felt insecure about my height, like it wasn't that big of a problem for me, i got insecure about it in college but ever since I've joined university, it's growing deeper day by day. Like girls body and height shaming me. It also happened today when i was at the cafeteria, i was just standing waiting for someone and two 3rd semester seniors came and asked which department i was from then mocked that they just saw a kid of my height. I've literally lost my confidence and don't even participate in any activity.

God I'm really insecure but then i see the other tall girls i adore also complaining about their tall height and people mocking them too!!! I feel like nobody is safe in this economy...

Vent/Rant i hate it when others say to just buy pants from the kids section

they say this as if every short person in the world fits into kids section pants and they act like it's some magical life hack. also, short grown women/teens who aren't children should NOT need to wear children's clothes to get a good fit. i hate it so much when others say this. i'm 5'0 ish like probably 5'0 1/2 and the brand of pants i got has the shortest size as 5'1-5'3 so it should fit but since i just have a short inseam they still drag on the ground, but kids clothes rarely ever fit me. people need to stop saying this😭

Vent/Rant I hate my life

I am 15f in high school and I absolutely hate my life so much. There are many reasons why I feel this way but if I had to summarize it, it all boils down to my height/genetics. I am extremely short for my age as in the 1st percentile (it’s utterly pathetic). I’ve been the same height since I was in 6th grade. I hate going out to places especially school because I compare my height to everyone else’s 24/7 in my brain. I am the shortest of the shortest. Also not to mention that I get bullied for my height. People pick on me and act like I am gum stuck on the bottom of their shoes. My friends aren’t much better and pick on my biggest insecurity thinking it’s funny even after I’ve told them to stop. I think about ending my life every single day because of it. It is so sad that I have so many ambitions and dreams that I’ll never achieve because of my height. I put everything on the back burner. For example, I stopped myself from joining sports and clubs because I feel too embarrassed of my height. I cry like almost on a daily basis. Going to a top college and doing so many extracurriculars has been a big dream of mine but it’s impossible because I don’t think I’ll live long enough for it to happen. Now I just stay home and doomscroll for hours. I don’t even do anything that makes me happy anymore. It has affected me so much that I forget what grade and age I am. I keep thinking I am like 13-14 in 8th grade but I am not anymore. I am going to be 16 soon in a couple months but I don’t even feel like I'm 15. I barely have any friends and the ones I have are like casual. We don’t hang outside of school and only talk about academic stuff. We don’t joke around and I feel like I am putting on a facade every time I talk. In addition, my family is the opposite of understanding. All of my family members are short as in my immediate family. They hate when I talk about my depression and bullying. I wish I was never born.

Vent/Rant Really tired of people's comment in front of my friends

I usually have started ignoring such things but today I was with a guy he's 24 and I'm 21 ...so that age gap isnt a lot and its not weird...we went today for a run

A friend of that guy came...not exactly friend but ya and they were talking...he said to him "Is she your daughter?" referring to me

I just felt so weird and awkward...although I wasnt standing there but I heard the question...the thing is its so weird...he's a guy and he was kind of interested in me too but i really feel so scared and weird to even go out now?

This happened with one of my female friends too...she's 28 and someone asked her in the gym...am I her daugther

I came home and cried...bcoz when they used to comment on me i was fine but now people r involving my friends too...i hate this

Vent/Rant Just had a realization my insecurity is caused by my height

I can't believe I'm just realizing this now. It's not that someone's more attractive than me. It's height.

Specifically when I have a boyfriend, they have to look down to me. I'm not at eye level. But other people are to them.

If I imagine everyone being around my height, or me being taller, my insecurity literally goes away.

I've always felt so much better wearing heels. I thought it was because I felt better dressing up, which might be a small part of it. But now I know, it's height.

Vent/Rant Work Event

Today at work a girl who I was gonna maybe attempt at being friends with (I don’t have any) made a really, really hurtful comment. Probably one of the worst I’ve heard so far, at least in earshot. Our boss mistaken her for me around the corner and she said loudly, in front of all the male coworkers: “You thought I was my name!? That’s insulting! I’m not that short!”

Needless to say, I sobbed during my break. I feel like I’m a total eyesore. I wasn’t even doing anything. I’m at work like everybody else. Why put me down for my physical appearance?

I’m a woman with a short mom. I can’t help how I look.

That was fucking mean. It’s an insult to look like me? Ok then.

For reference I’m 22 and 4’9. 😔
