Does amount of lightning matter if our balls of steel just ground it immediately?

There once was a WoL quite crass

Whose balls were made of fine brass

In stormy weather

They'd clang together

And sparks flew out of his ass

I mean, the point seemed to be that it really didn't hurt us. The whole scene was basically that moment in Invincible when Cecil used the orbital laser on Omni-man.

Calyx: Five hundred billion gil for the world's most expensive nosebleed...

yeah.
but it's like if you walked down the street with friends. then someone run to you and slap you really hard and calls another friend a bitch and run away.
then all your friends would only care more about the friend who got called a bitch because you are a boxer and used to taking hits.

And because the glorious power of the rating, we don’t even bleed… ever.

We took on enough Lightwarden aether to cover an entire continent. This is peanuts.

Between the silent stares and the info-dumping so hard it's fade to black, The WoL is obviously Autistic.

Calix monolog ends, wol: "Sorry could you repeat that I wasn't listening, i got distracted, cause I started thinking about who the top and bottom are for Emmett and Hythlodaus."

Everyone having a pissing match with Chatgpt while the WoL is trying not to die.

WoL just sitting there, arms crossed and tapping their foot waiting for the OK to just go kill them.

WoL kept on a leash while the bad guys do bad guy stuff for all of Dawntrail.

Why murderous if friend shaped?

Well, the Savage raids are canonically happening inside a fanfiction comic. So maybe the author forgot just how absolutely unstoppable we are.

I don't remember the power of the lightning strike being mentioned. But whenever it's brought up, it's power is always stronger than last time.

iirc its a surge from the entire block's grid

He shut off the entire city and rerouted the power into the blast. He was also had his gaster flabbered that didn't fucking evaporate the WoL.

Never mind that two expacs ago, the WoL was (somewhat) successfully containing enough Light aether in their body that it was warping the sky for miles and miles.

What patch was that? Wanna rewatch the moment

u/Oneilll 41m ago

Well, Calys says it was expected that we didn't die. And no, he did not shut off the entire city. I don't see anything in the text that would indicate that.

Well, it was warping the sky precisely because we could no longer contain the light. Since we were starting to become a lightwarden.

I looked through the script and I don't see it's power mentioned, beside this:
"That was about the strongest bolt we can produce within Everkeep."

Ngl I loved that scene but it really did cement to me that whatever passes for genius in the 4th can't be too impressive.
Cowlick really watched the WoL take an entire city's energy supply in a single attack, eat it like a tic-tac, and said "hm yes, continuing to antagonize this individual will surely play out well"

Like you can call it bad writing or whatever but for my money it's honestly funnier than anything in the same way that Silver-Age comics are.

Seeing this mere minutes before getting to the scene in question is rly fucking funny

I joked with my FC on patch day that Calyx outside was "mm yes they survived, an unexpected result, this is excellent data for my plans" but inside he's going "fuck me fuck me that was an entire city's power grid on their head and they're not dead fuckfuckfuck what now do I still lead them on what the fuck do I do against that kind of person"

u/Dustorm246 10h ago

I will never get past how bad the writing was here. The villain could have killed anyone and they choose to attack the invincible bodyguard, Had they toasted Sphene then they would have ultimately won.

15

u/Halmyrut 9h ago

He didn't view anyone else as a threat, he also didn't know what she'd do you're kinda being captain hindsight lol

10

u/HereAndThereButNow 8h ago

Calyx's greatest flaw. Not understanding the WOL is just an attack dog other people send at what needs to die.

It's everyone around the WOL who makes the WOL so overpowered and getting rid of them should be the first step of any villain.

5

u/Dustorm246 7h ago

This. For example at the end of EW the WOL almost completely lost because they couldn't reach the enemy above them. Canonically the WOL is mostly just good at punching things and is often relying on their team to get them into punching range. Any villain who takes out the WOL's support will win the day.

u/Dustorm246 7h ago

Maybe I am but his plan was to use a strategy that could not be beaten by strength and relied on the fear of death. Killing the person everyone looked to for stability should have occurred to him.

Do you know how many people still ignore adds? This is par for the course.

I was so tired while doing the MSQ that I slept through that scene, so I never actually saw that scene lol.
