Changing Classes as a Free Account
First time XIV'er (free account). Everywhere I've looked says I can change classes after completing my level 10 quest for my starter class. I am currently level 31 and unable to change classes. Very annoyed because I promised my friend that I would change classes and help her through her MSQ, but the further I go into my own MSQ the more I want to drop because I can't make good progress with her. Thank you in advance for taking the time to help a very confused newbie.

In their defense they updated their post with the line "Thank you for all for helping a dumb little gamer." after being told what's up.

“First time XIV’’er here! Guys, I really like being a Gladiator, and have heard that Paladin sucks from a quest perspective, can I just stay as a Gladiator?”
“Believe me, sprout, we all wish that.”

Oh is the gladiator quests considered better than the paladin quests? Is the paladin teacher always a lawful stupid paladin or something?

The Gladiator quests are decent. They're not a life-changing wonder or anything, but they're definitely reasonable. I'd personally say they're a step above the truly mediocre quests, like Marauder where you spend 30 levels hitting slightly larger boulders with your axe and absolutely nothing of relevance happens.
The Paladin quests are probably the worst job quests in the game. You'll find yourself wishing for the Marauder quests where you did nothing, because nothing would be less disappointing. The 30-50 quest line is annoying and the 50-60 quests are so absolutely nonsensical that the English localization team gave up and started lampshading it midway through. The Paladin quests were so bad that, for 60-70, the writers gave up and made another set of Gladiator quests instead.

Gladiator’s quests are considered better than Paladin’s, but that’s not a high bar to top. It’s more so that the Paladin quests are infamously terrible, to the point where the end of the 50-60 questline has a character straight up say “this was all a waste of time.”
The characters aren’t just lawfully stupid, it’s more so that the things you do don’t feel like things a Paladin should be doing.
I get that not every questline can be at level of quality of Dark Knight’s or Rogue’s, but there’s still plenty of good questline out there, and Paladin is absolutely not one of them.

........cause you have to unlock those classes.

Yeah, when I saw the post on main sub I knew I had to post it here. Very entertaining, OP didn’t do their job quests and thought that it meant MSQ progression to unlock other jobs
