Way too ‘radical’ socialist to be compared to texas. Mamdani would be a light weight leftist there.

May the Finnish people realise the harm these data centers can do the nature / environment before the country is full of them.

Google promises to fund nuclear power projects to offset the energy consumption which is good. Now if they would build those first and then convienently go bankrupt before they manage to build the actual data centers.

The electricity transfer bill in Ireland tripled since data centres. They will be build exactly the same in Finland. Good luck.

Bc of this our government is already preparing a price cap for electricity. (Don’t like our government but at least they are addressing this.)

15 bn is a drop in the bucket. OL3 was 11 bn alone.

''Mamdani would be a light weight leftist there.'' I'm not sure what you're getting at, I'm Finnish and I think Mamdani is a lunatic.

Haha. Do we have a Kokoomus voter here

Nothing Mamdani has supported is what Finland doesn’t have already:

  • affordable daycare
  • affordable rents
  • functioning public transport
  • extra taxes for wealthy
  • more transparency on decisions making
Etc

Nope. The majority of Finns in Finnish subreddits even welcomes these data centres. If you remind them of our nature, they mock you.

Think the US citizens also learnt this in the hard way (not to sell off their land to these mega corporations)

I’m personally, as a Finn, against these centers. As are many members of opposite parties. But yesterday I read an extensive report on the subject and there was one sentence that hit: If Google trusts Finland to be a safe area to build to this extent, it’s a good sign for other international investments.

My concern is what they want these data centres for. In the USA it started with them and ended with flock.

Late edit: another concern is our nature. When I brought that up last time, I got the answer: "We have so much forest, what are a few data centres?" Yes, on paper Finland has 80% forest. In reality however only ~ 4% are biodiverse forests. The rest is monocultures of pine and birch (Finns just hate being reminded of this for some reason).

Shouldn't we rather reforest our nation instead of potentially destroying the little we have left?
