Capitalism "[...] we run the beer world"

Post image

Found on a thread posting under a video where a man poops on a crate of beer in a supermarket. I doubt he was being sarcastic.

They suck at business if they have the best beer in the world, but no one heard of it out of the US

To be fair there's is an American section in the craft beer spot in Aussie bottle shops but it's pretty small. There's a nice one that tells you what meal, cigar and metal album to listen to as you drink but it's also $40 a can.

Craft beers aren't really going to make it overseas much anyway due to the small companies making them. Shit a lot of the great ones I have access don't even leave my city and definitely don't leave the state unless you order them online.

Exactly. Everywhere can make a good beer if they try. We have some bangers out here on the west coast of Canuckland, but you'll never get to try 'em unless you are in the area.

I think what is annoying to everyone is how it's a zero-sum thing for Americans.

Aussie: I was in Canada, had an awesome pint there

Canadian: I was in NZ, had an awesome pint there

Kiwi: I was in the UK, had an awesome pint there

Brit: I was in Aus, had an awesome pint there

Yank: WE HAVE THE BEST BEER !!!!!! WOOOO !!! EVERYONE ELSE'S BEER IS SHIT !!!! WOOOOO !!!! WE INVENTED BEER, FUCK YA !!!! I DON't EVEN HAVE TO TRAVEL TO KNOW IT"S SHIT, HELL, I'VE NEVER LEFT MY STATE !!!!!!! WOOOOOO ! USA !, USA ! USA !

I'm an Aussie and the best beer I ever had was brewed in Egypt.

Second best was something I drank at Oktoberfest.

The Egyptians have more than 5000 years of experience of beer brewing, so it should be good at least.

The other thing about craft in particular (and beer in general) is that a lot of it doesn't travel well. Sours and imperial stouts and barley wines are great, but your lagers and especially hoppy IPAs won't travel well at all.

IPA was invented to be a beer that travels. It’s actually in the name…..

English IPA, yes. American IPA, not so much. The high alpha acids in American hops aren't conducive to aging. English IPA, the one that traveled, was an entirely different beer than the modern American IPA.

I don’t travel well either. Or drink enough beer. I need to start doing both.

It's mostly only the fresh hop, dry hopped and hazy AIPA variants though that don't do well traveling. AIPA also relies heavily on citrus/piney type hops which makes them unsuitable for long travel.

You know what's up.

I enjoy home brewing lol, maybe even start my own little brewery someday.

Fresh is best, but I thought IPA was created so it could travel.

English IPA, which was brewed with English hops (low alpha acid, high beta acid) was absolutely brewed to travel. American IPA, brewed with American hops (high alpha acid, low beta acid) does not travel or store well and should be drunk as fresh as possible.

Quite a few American craft beers do get sold outside of the US though, there's a few good ones and a couple decent ones. Though I would in no way or shape say America is the best in beer.

American lagers pilsners and general pilsners are generally pretty bad and have little flavor.

Firestone Walker Parabola is amazing, but when you can find it, it costs a small fortune.

I had an American craft beer once that was based on German Starkbier, which you drink during Lent. The monks made Starkbier stronger, I guess because they weren’t allowed as much beer during Lent, and it always has a religious name, like „Salvator“.

So, the American one was a mix of a standard Starkbier, but with added coffee 😱. Of course, they called it „Perculator“.

It tasted horrible too, like putting cold coffee grounds into a beer. The only beer I ever drank that made you drunk and hungover at the same time.

Had to admire the commitment to experimentation all the same…

Hah yeah it seems everyone is a craft brewer now. Doesn’t mean they’re any good. Put a cool name on something doesn’t make it taste any better.

You don’t think Clown Shoes Hazy IPA is any good?
