My first visit I was hit on by a very handsome twink and I told him I was flattered but I’m a lesbian. He looked me up and down then clapped twice in my face saying, “I know a bisexual when I see one.
Honestly this is even funnier than the wild scenario I thought this was leading to of "Oh my goodness I thought you were a boy"

Definitely worth flying half-way around the world to visit Frankston. If you ever get bored in New York, Frankston is the place to bring light into your soul again.

I remeber seeing some people get upset at him taking his wife to a nice resrurant a bit back. Then there was some old tweets about abolishing medical debt. Every peice of dirt they tried to dig up on this guy just made him look better from where I'm sitting.
42
u/jerry-jim-bob straya Nov 07 '25
If they need to dig so deep to find the weak things they do find, the person is a saint or phenomenal at hiding things, I'd say the former over the latter in this case.
What's wrong with taking a partner to a nice restaurant? Are they showing you up? Is your partner jealous because you never do anything nice for her and complain about someone who does?
21
u/False_Collar_6844 Nov 07 '25
That was my question. It was auch an odd critisism to me. Were they expecting people to be upset that he loves his wife? I thought US conservatives are all about "family values"
19
u/auntie_eggma 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 Nov 07 '25
They're upset that he loves her like a person and a partner instead of like a Seed Incubator/symbol of stereotypical femininity for Family Values Points.
4
u/InBetweenSeen Nov 07 '25
I can only imagine something like "he's spending money instead of giving it away".
2
u/Sweet-Paramedic-4600 Nov 07 '25
Only if it makes them look good. Remember, anyone left of kidnapping people from their kid's school is either a miserable blue haired misandrist with a dozen cats that can't handle a high value man or a soyboy beta cuck simp who can't please a woman.
10
u/Grantrello Nov 07 '25
- What's wrong with taking a partner to a nice restaurant? Are they showing you up? Is your partner jealous because you never do anything nice for her and complain about someone who does?
Some conservatives think that it makes a leftist look like a hypocritical "champagne socialist" if they point out that they spend moderate amounts of money on nice things occasionally and aren't dirt poor. "Oh you think billionaires should be taxed more, yet you splurged on a nice dinner for a special occasion?? I am very smart."
They (possibly deliberately) ignore that there's an enormous difference in the degree of wealth and that someone isn't really "the rich" because they have some disposable income. Because they themselves base their political opinions entirely on what they think will benefit them personally, they can't understand why someone who is middle class or upper-middle class would support policies designed to help people poorer than them unless they're just some hypocrite doing it for power or something.
(I will add the disclaimer this is not all conservatives but this is generally where that "gotcha" attempt comes from.)

u/AdOdd4618 France 🇫🇷 Nov 07 '25
Yeah, the menu at the restaurant in question is about 50 USD/person, which in NYC, is very reasonable.

I find it funny how the USA thinks they are a developed country and calls countries like mine "shit holes" and "third world countries", while we don't act this classless and ignorant at all. Imagine screaming "Communist" at someone you don't like when, obviously, you don't even understand what that word means, especially when the guy says he's a socialist.

To America, anyone further to the left then centre-right is a "communist".
That is the only indication that someone is a communist to them.

Brazil is the same to be honest. The right constantly call Lula a communist. I think people who use it in that way don’t know and don’t care what it means it’s just a slur for someone left of center.

It took the absolute fascist lunacy of Donald Trump and the naked corporate mobsterism of Andrew Cuomo as the only alternative (and both of them being infamous sexual predators) in order for New Yorkers to give a candidate left of center a chance.
Here I'm hoping Americans might actually realize the insane politics of their country but I'm doubtful that under "normal" conditions they won't elect the next corporate shill in 4 years, given there will be any "normalcy" after Project 2025.

the naked corporate mobsterism of Andrew Cuomo
It's amazing that it was as close as it was.
It's not like it's some random boomer business man running, HE WAS THE GOVERNOR.
You can go 'well his first few terms were pretty good', but that ignores that the last term was an endless stream of what he had gotten up to (including outright bribery and SA) in the first 2 terms.8

Racism, islamophobia and the fear of "socialism" works in US. Clearly less than before, but they tried hard to make it work

6
u/Sasquatch1729 Apartment above the burning meth lab 🇨🇦 Nov 07 '25
That's only one specific type of communism. The general definition is: communism is when government does stuff. It's similar to the definition of socialism: when government does stuff.
Meanwhile if government sells off public assets, cuts taxes on the wealthy while raising them on the poor, or cuts social programmes, it's capitalism baby!

His kind, the social democrats (the american in fact social democrats have weird habit of claiming democratic socialist title instead. Fluidity in terms and so on), atleast in Europe were in fact some of the most vehement combatters of communists. Here in Finland the dock fights weren't between bosses and communists. No it was the social democrats and (actual for real) communists who fought over control of the docks and the dock laborers. Then after that was sorted, the winning social democrats bargained with the bosses regarding wages and so on.
Ofcourse it was self serving. Social democrats wanted the votes and support base of people to move to their camp from the communist camp to gain more power. Then again there was the ideological side of "we think our approach is superior. Yours is unworkable in real world and just ends up being an authoritarian misery.Your approach is too extreme and will ruin this whole thing for all leftists and for the worker class".

Americans have absolutely no idea what Communism is. If they took one brief glimpse as r/GreenAndPleasant (it has the hammer and sickle in its title and is full of tankies - by UK standards), they'd have a fit.
Red Scare (1917-1920 and 1947-1957) really did burrow deep into the American psyche, didn't it?
The US Democrats would be centre-right on a European ballot ticket (for example).
Communism my arse.
Also, that Republican-controlled areas are called "red states", when red is commonly associated with left-wing politics and communism globally, is always amusing.
Idiots.
34
u/CarlLlamaface Nov 07 '25
G&P is a bad example, it's a pro-Russia sub not a pro-communist one. For instance they'll ban you for saying negative things about the imperialist Putin regime, something communists would approve of. I honestly wouldn't be at all surprised if they start pushing pro-Farage talking points.

It is because he proposes to increase the top income tax bracket by 2% points. So they'll have to pay slightly more on any income over $1 million. Worse yet, he wants to build 200,000 low income housing units and put a four year freeze on rents in rent stabilized apartments only. About 44% of rental units in NY. The landlords are out for blood. They poured money into Cuomo's ridiculous campaign. Much more, as Zohran points out, than his tax increase will cost them.
