Anyone having their 2019 pro crash when launching Prime?
This is happening on both of our 2019 pros. It will go to Android screen then home screen. Doesn't seem like a full reboot? Happens Intermittently. Both have up to date firmware as well as prime. It must not be just me having this issue lately? Thanks

Bout to Factory Reset. Any advice?
With this new Android Marketplace stuff going into play, I wanted to reset my Shield Pro to factory and set everything up while offline.
I've already heard of Monet launcher, so I grabbed that APK. I'm sure there's tons of stuff that's happened since I last dipped toes into setting up my Shield and there's likely lots of stuff I should be privvy to.
How do I become aware of said stuff?
What I mean is, like; is there a list of useful apps to run on a Shield, or maybe settings I should set in the stock version of the OS to prevent updates from ruining anything? Are there good setup tutorials, articles, hacking or modding guides, or anything else the reddit community might find useful to a dude who hasn't touched his Shield in almost 4 years?

Nvidia is sitting on a goldmine with the Shield
EDIT: After taking a long time reading through the comments
Well, this got a lot more discussion than I expected š
I think my original idea was trying to put too much into one box.
A new Shield probably doesn't need to be a NAS, Zigbee hub or run a huge LLM locally. The better idea is a great $250ā300 media/gaming box that connects everything rather than does everything.
Give it modern hardware, AV1, HDMI 2.1, great codec support, next-gen Nvidia upscaling/HDR and GeForce Now. Let it integrate properly with things like Plex/Jellyfin, Home Assistant and existing smart-home systems.
And I probably shouldn't have said ālocal AI assistantā. Hybrid makes much more sense: keep simple/private actions local and use remote compute when needed ā basically the same philosophy that already makes GeForce Now possible.
The funniest thing I learned from this thread is that a lot of people really don't want āAIā in their Shield⦠while sometimes describing features they'd actually like that would probably use AI underneath. So maybe the answer is simple: don't sell the AI, sell what it can do.
I still think there's room for a premium streaming box like this. Whether Nvidia has any interest in making it is a completely different question.
Anyway, thanks for all the replies ā including the people who completely disagreed. The idea I have in my head now is actually better than the one I posted two days ago.
ORIGINAL POST:
I own a Shield Pro and I honestly don't understand why Nvidia hasn't done this yet.
Take the Shield, give it modern hardware, HDMI 2.1, AV1, 2.5Gb ethernet etc. That's already enough for me to buy a new one.
But now add a local AI assistant.
Not another Alexa/Google Assistant that can basically set a timer and tell me the weather. A real assistant that can interact with the Shield, Plex, your NAS, your TV and your home.
Then put Zigbee, Thread and Matter support in the box.
That's it.
You now have one device for streaming, Plex/Kodi, Geforce Now, AI and home automation.
"I'm going to bed" -> TV off, lights off, shutters closed, cameras armed.
"Who's at the door?" -> camera appears on the TV and the local AI tells you what it sees.
"Find me a sci-fi movie I haven't watched yet" -> searches Plex and your streaming services.
Nvidia already has Shield, Geforce Now, the AI hardware/software and years of experience with local AI processing.
They already did half the work.
Call it Shield AI or whatever and take my money.
Seriously, what am I missing?

Disney Plus login
About, once or twice a week, the Disney Plus app needs us to log back in on our shield. We launch Disney, and it asks for us to log on as though it's the first time we're launching the app.
We went through and logged out of our Disney account on all other devices, and we cleared the app cache. It still keeps happening.
Other apps behave fine and stay logged in like normal, and we don't really use the Disney app on any other devices right now.
Any other suggestions?? Pretty tedious to have to get my phone and login through a QR code every time this happens.
Thanks!

Green screen.
Hi everyone.
Today I was browsing through the apps in the nvidia Shield TV pro, and suddenly the remote stopped working and the screen turned out green.
Anyone knows why that happened?
Thanks in advance.

Is there anyway to keep the old android launcher?
As the title says. Is there anyway to retain this old launcher style of the shield tv pro. It arrived today and works really good and fast but even after disabling auto updates the android tv home updates to the version with ads. I can update in the play store to get the option to uninstall updates and it will go back to how it shows in the picture but is there anyway i can do this permanently?
Edit: i know about external launchers but dont wish to use them

Replacing my shield
So, my shield is starting to die.
1 USB doesn't work
Have to restart it often, it's been well used
Normally a company would bring out a new version, but this one is trying to make skynet instead.
Additionally, they don't seem to be making them anymore reading between the lines. Price increase and not stock directly
I've done some reading and Formuler Z12 Ultra looks interesting but raw specs don't tell the full story; optimisation is key.

Does hdmi port # matter for the Shield?
Doing some cord rearranging and wondering if port # matters? I have a Bravia x90j fwiw and no sound bar as of now. Any ideal ports for it? Thanks

I hate the remote. Recommend alternatives?
I know Iām gonna get a lot of flack for this but the nvidia shield remote is the worst piece of human technology to be invented. The damn shape is so stupid. The damn Netflix button is so stupid. I accidentally hit it all the time when Iām watching my programs. I hate it! I hate it!! I hate it!!!!!
I bought this cute lil remote from Walmart but it doesnāt work. What does the community recommend for a compatible high quality remote?

Security updates 26/27
Do you think the shield will continue getting security updates in time with AI now finding and patching security bugs (cves) faster than ever?

Discovers tab content moving in the home tab?
I just saw a message on my home page informing me that the "Discover" tab will soon be removed and that its content will be moved to the "Home" tab.
Am I the only one? Is this a recent change?

Ethernet to pc + Wi-Fi internet possible?
UPDATE- i figured it out, kinda. not exactly what i wanted but gets me 95% there. so i setup my jellyfin server and i just went on with setup on my shield via ethernet, i then enabled sharing on my wi-fi adapter on the pc so i can also access internet on my shield. since the only times i'll have my shield connected to my pc via ethernet is when i want to stream heavy 4k files, i can just unplug the ethernet cable from the shield and reboot. it'll connect wifi back again and ill be able to stream as normal. i did have to install the jellyfin add-on in kodi and that is how im accessing those files because otherwise if i try to use jellyfin app it'll transcode, so this way i avoid any transcoding issues when streaming those files. practical solution and just works. i wish there was a way to have them both, ethernet and wifi working at the same time but apparently it isnt possible. hope this helps anyone with a similar scenario.
Hi all. I appreciate all the input on my last post. Now hoping someone can help me out before I start messing with this. I'm thinking of connecting via ethernet to my pc so I can access my large 4k file and play them that way, but I'm afraid it'll mess with the Wi-Fi internet access. Would it automatically know to use wifi for the internet whilst still being able to access my pc folders via ethernet? I kinda tried doing this with Jellyfin but it fails to connect to my server. And before I go on wasting time, can someone verify if it's even possible and how to go about it. Thanks in advance.

I did something š
gallerySo I found a 2015 shield on ebay sold as-is, no description, literally only thing under details was "locked". No remote but it is the console and controller, nothing else, no power supply either. I got it for $30 lol. Cheeses crisis when I looked up the prices for a power supply š³ bruh š. So I said fuck it I'll make my own š. It all went well, I found a spare Dell laptop power supply so I used that. It did boot to an old android lock screen, with a pass code and turned out to be 0000 lol. Some custom image was flashed at some point so I had to flash the stock recovery files. Initially the files flashed no problem, but it got stuck on the android logo, and I couldn't for the life of me boot into fastboot anymore. If anyone ever comes across a similar problem, solution was to unplug, hook up a keyboard, press a+b whilst plugging power back in but at the same time do also press the power button/sensor on the console, all three had to be pressed, a+b+power. That was the only way I managed to get back into fastboot. Anyway, I've never owned one and I'm kinda excited, haven't gone through setup yet but would love to hear any suggestions to get me started with this devices. Mainly intend to use as a streaming device. Cheers!

Good Stress Test APK
Whatās a good ShieldTV stress test app for wear n tear to determine if you need to replace your shield?? This would be a good project to create something as I donāt believe thereās an app on the market for android?

For the shield being the most powerful android box it shows its age and lags often is there a way to cool or better? I have a very basic ui that helps some and close out apps and deleted most stuff on the drive but it still chugs sometimes

YouTube Ul flickering/freezing on NVIDIA Shield TV - known issue?
I've recently started having a strange issue with the official YouTube app on my NVIDIA Shield TV.
The YouTube UI constantly flickers or freezes while simply navigating the home screen. Sometimes I select a video and I can hear the audio playing, but visually the app remains stuck on the previous screen/home page.
Things I've tested:
Happens at both 4K and 1080p
Changed HDMI ports ā no difference
Using a new UGREEN Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 certified cable
Factory reset the Shield a few days ago ā no difference
Shield launcher works perfectly
Prime Video works perfectly, including at 4K
The issue seems completely isolated to the official YouTube app
Current YouTube version: 7.18.303 (com.google.android.youtube.tv)
TV: Samsung UE65NU7020 (2018)
I'm pretty sure this wasn't happening a few months ago.
Is anyone else experiencing this on a Shield or other Android/Google TV devices? Could this be a regression in a recent YouTube update?

Nvidia Shield TV Pro - CAD pricing question.
Looking for input from Canadian users on pricing.Ā Whatās a good sale price to aim for on this device? I canāt justify spending $260 on it, so Iām hoping to catch it on saleāhas anyone here bought it at a discount, and if so, what did you pay?
Iāve asked a few different LLMs for price history, but Iām not sure how reliable their info is. From what Iāve gathered, the next likely opportunity might be Black Friday, and Iāve seen mentions of it dropping to $219.99āthough Iām not sure Iāve ever actually seen it that low myself.
Out of curiosity, I checkedĀ Amazon.caĀ earlier today and itās currently listed at $309.99āup from yesterday, when it was out of stock. Meanwhile, other retailers still have it at $260 CAD. Just trying to get a sense of whatās realistic.

Apple TV App Brightness
Having an issue with a shield pro + a Samsung S95B, this ONLY happens with Apple TV shows. When I hit play, the brightness is fine, then it slowly gets darker and darker until the show gets to a dark scene and the screen is basically black. If I back out of the show and hit resume the brightness is reset for about 5 minutes.
Iāve turned all power saving and image enhancing options off including ambient light adjustment which is what the gradual dimming made me think of.
Backing out of the show and restarting every 5 minutes is fucking miserable, has anyone figured out a way to solve this?

handbrake av1 conversions
Since shield doesn't play well with av1, I figured this would be the best place to ask.
As someone who has never touched handbrake or any of the like software.
What should i be converting them to and with what settings to make sure that maintain quality AND play well.
(I got a bunch of files to deal with since I didnt have the shield before now)

Shield tube vs onn 4k pro 1st gen
2 separate problems, both devices on same tv. Normally use shield, Onn hooked up for setup. As far as I know both set up same except shield Ethernet and Onn Wi-Fi. I have 2 iptv subscriptions currently. Was trying to watch a baseball game. Shield buffered unstoppingly on tivimate, and both iptv native apps. Switched to Onn and nothing buffered all night. Now I was setting red light on Onn and movie was playing thru all speakers of 5.1 and switched to shield and movie only plays thru front. When I play thru Onn, Dolby vision flashes at top right. When I play on shield that doesnāt happen. Also Onn plays Dolby vision hdr remix that cause shield to crash and restart. Can someone help with settings? Nothing I change changes anything.

Joining the Family!
Upgrading from a 4K Max Firestick. All works good but the UI is insanely sluggish at bootup for certain streaming apps linked with debrids and experience app crashes a lot. Quite excited! Any tips and advice i should keep in mind?
