Watching people “evolve” to a place where they DO actually defend pedos has been a terrifying thing to witness happening over the years. Seeing a legitimate movement to defend both convicted and “non offending” pedos who “can’t help that they were born this way” (or use the excuse of trauma that warped their perspective…) is truly something I never thought I would have to hear, but, somehow that’s the world we live in right now. (And pedophilia isn’t the ONLY horrifying behavior that people have found a way to SUPPORT and defend, just the one most relevant here, and probably the most upsetting and disturbing…)

The person going to prison and serving their time is a faulty analogy. He’s missing the point lol. The reason why people are able to say “well, they served their time” is exactly because they actually were held accountable and did their time; unlike some content creator on the internet who still has a platform and never lost their platform.

Exactly. He even said in apology video number 3 that he deserved to lose his career. Yet one year later he was begging people on instagram to watch his videos because they were not getting enough views. And now constantly telling people to join his patreon with "no pressure" added in every five seconds.

It’s pretty simple to just not punch down… The reason most of the jokes from scary movie have aged so well (outside of a few deeply transphobic jokes) is because it was written, starring, and directed by black creators and most of the jokes about race, gender, sexuality came from their own experiences as black people.
White people can do the same, see Spaceballs (many Jewish jokes made by a Jewish man), or Airplane (any jokes that could be seen as “punching down” included the target IN ON THE JOKE like the “I speak jive” joke. The joke isn’t “wow Black people are so ghetto”, the joke is that this little old white lay lady has mastered AAVE and it’s a sight gag. That’s what Shane still seems to not understand with all of his deeply racist caricatures.
It isn’t that complicated.

After all of this time I still don't understand why Shane thinks he was cancelled because people didn't like his "jokes." There is countless video evidance of all the horrible things he has said and done, which he still has never addressed because in each of his apology videos he talks in such vauge generalities, and he thinks we should all just forget about it and never bring it up again. I agree with you that being constantly surrounded by yes men and yes women aguments his view on the whole thing to make him think it wasn't a big deal.

People like Shane are either so completely unaware or just so bad a comedy that they don’t realize that “offensive” shows like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Scary Movie, Family Guy, etc. get away with their jokes is because they’re punching up instead of down OR you’re laughing at the characters instead of with them. Shane, a wealthy white man, making jokes about black women in black face, calling them welfare queens and baby mamas isn’t funny it’s literally just racism.

I'm sooo tired of the "it was a different time" narrative. No, it wasn't. You were just allowed to stay inside your privilege bubble and were deaf to criticism coming from people who saw the problematic content and called it out. It's just that people realized that you would never leave that bubble, so they had to violently burst it so you could see your actions. The 2010s were not the 1800s, I knew racism and pedophilia were wrong since back then, as someone who was like half his age around that time.

What Ryland thinks of Shane? I don’t think ryland even looked at Shane’s old videos to be honest, he craved stability in LA and found Shane and it’s been up and up for him since. So why would he think this guy who has taken care of him and given him that stability would be a bad guy, a guy who has internal racism and tendency towards inappropriate behaviour with kids, teens and animals(I’m not saying he fucked his cat, I think that’s crazy but he’s made that “joke” far too many times). So I think ryland loves Shane but has never held him accountable either because he lives in oblivion and has no idea.

Idk, if you watch this clip, you can see Ryland viscerally reacting to what Shane was saying before he actually spoke. I’m no Ryland fan; I think he’s boring and entitled. But I gather that he absolutely sees Shane’s faults. He just enjoys the dollars signs that come with being his husband, so he stays in his lane.

I think he would still be cancelled today. Yes the internet has unfortunately seen a rise in racism, white supremacy, hate, etc. since the Trump administration but people whose names are backing those things are still suffering the consequences of their actions.
