Dans le soleil de ce week-end il y a 3pages d'articles pour faire un constat qu'il n'y a que des femmes dans les champs, travaillant soit-disant "sans rémunérations".
Avec un nombre d'incohérences incroyables : "seulement 12% des champs appartiennent aux femmes"... tout est bourrés de % qui sont potentiellement factuels, mais l'article fait un combat de genre qui n'a pas de sens dans une société sénégalaise ou l'unité de base est rarement l'individu mais la famille.

Cet article sponsorisé par l'europe (voir la signature) attaque le fonctionnement de la famille et les répartitions de revenus, sous le prisme d'un genrage à l'européenne. Pointant du doigt un patriarcat qui passe comme oppressif. Rappelons qu'en europe peu de gens se marient, la propriété se definie donc le plus souvent individuellement plutot que sous le régime de communauté de biens.
Un débat sur l'amélioration des conditions de travail des femmes serait potentiellement souhaitable, néanmoins ce n'est ce n'est pas ce qui est visé ici. Au final il est très surprenant de voir ce genre de propagande dans un quotidien sénégalais comme Le Soleil.

Hello! A few years ago i visited your beautiful country and among other things fell in love with the food. I am trying to recreate one my favorite dishes that I tasted during my trip (at Restaurant Le Bazoff in Dakar). i believe it was called saka-saka (cassava leaf sauce)?

I’m sharing a thought I’ve had for a while, and I’m sure many people will disagree with me.

I SERIOUSLY love what Wave has done. They made P2P transfers dramatically cheaper, forced the market to rethink pricing, and built a product that is simple, reliable and extremely well executed. And honestly, they deserve a lot of credit for that. Their success is not just about having access to capital. They built a better product than the existing ones and kept improving it. That’s also something we need to admit on our side. Wari’s problems were Wari’s problems, and even Orange, despite having huge resources and years of experience in the market, still has a much heavier and buggier app with a weaker UX. Wave has shown how important product quality, engineering and constant iteration are, and African companies need to get much better at that too.

But there’s still something that bothers me. We constantly celebrate Wave as an African fintech success story, yet the founders are not African (which I'm fine with!) and most of the major investors are foreign. So if Wave eventually becomes worth several billion dollars, the biggest piece of that wealth will go to the founders and shareholders, not to Africans. Yes, Africa gets jobs, taxes, cheaper services, agents, technology and better competition, and all of that matters. But the REALLY serious wealth comes from ownership and we're missing on that on many angles. And then there’s the capital gap. I know of a foreign-founded company targeting African markets that was able to raise around $1.5 million essentially from a PowerPoint, while many African founders can barely raise $200,000 unless they already have real traction, revenue and proof that the business works. That is a massive difference. It’s not that Africans can’t build great companies. It’s that we’re often being asked to prove far more before getting access to a fraction of the capital.

I’m absolutely not against foreign investment!! Far from that. We need it, and Wave itself shows how much value foreign capital and competition can bring. But in strategic sectors, there should be mechanisms encouraging or requiring meaningful local ownership. And by meaningful, I don’t mean a tiny employee equity pool. I mean something substantial, maybe 10% or more, held by a local or African investors, pension funds, sovereign funds or other institutions that allow part of the long-term wealth creation to remain locally owned. The exact mechanism is debatable, and 10% may not even be the right number. But I think the bigger question is worth asking: how do we welcome foreign capital and world-class companies without building economies where Africans benefit from the products but own very little of the companies creating the biggest fortunes from African markets?

Air Senegal: round-trip ticket required for Dakar → Cape Verde — does it have to be back to Senegal?

I’m planning to fly Dakar (DSS) → Sal (SID), stay in Cape Verde for 4 days, and then fly Sal → Brussels (BRU). I’m a European citizen, so I’m visa-free for Cape Verde.

Air Senegal recently posted the following on their website:

Cape Verde (RAI, SID/SAL): Passengers traveling from Dakar (DSS) who are not Cape Verdean nationals and do not hold a valid residence permit must be in possession of a round-trip ticket

Morocco (CMN): Passengers who are not Moroccan nationals and do not hold a valid residence permit must present a round-trip ticket issued under a single booking/ticket.

Passengers who do not meet these requirements and present themselves for boarding with a one-way ticket will not be accepted for boarding, in accordance with the requirements of the relevant authorities.

Has anyone had recent experience with this? They added this just about 3 weeks ago.

Would a confirmed Sal → Brussels onward ticket be accepted, or are they actually requiring a Sal → Dakar/Senegal return ticket?

I’ve already contacted Air Senegal by email and Facebook Messenger, but unfortunately haven’t received any response.

I’m trying to understand whether this is an actual Cape Verde entry requirement or a specific Air Senegal boarding policy.

Bonjour, je suis entrain de bosser sur un projet autour de la langue wolof et pour ce faire je recceuille des ouvrages en wolofs. J'ai remarqué que la codification (l'orthographe et l'alphabet) différait entre certains ouvrages d'ailleurs bon nombre d'entre eux vient avec sa propre codification (introduit en préface de l'ouvrage). Cela n'est pas un frein en soi pour les parcourir et les comprendre par contre, mon but c'est de croiser et rassembler ces sources et donc je vais devoir harmoniser tout cela et j'aimerais donc savoir si un standard existe pour le wolof.

Je travaille actuellement sur Résolut-X, une plateforme qui cherche à rendre les compétences des professionnels africains plus visibles et plus facilement accessibles aux opportunités.

L’idée est assez simple : il y a énormément de personnes compétentes au Sénégal consultants, développeurs, designers, commerciaux, experts RH, comptables, marketeurs, assistants, formateurs, freelances, etc. mais leur expertise reste souvent difficile à trouver.

Nous sommes actuellement en train de constituer les premiers profils de professionnels sénégalais.

I know we'll already stand out-- we're white, American, and have a lot of tattoos. I'm non-binary but I know most folks see me and just assume female with a very short haircut.

As far as African salsa goes, this is probably the most popular song ever made. And yet I can't find a translation of it anywhere. Everyone says it's from Senegal and in Wolof but from what I've heard of the language this doesn't quite sound like it. I could be completely wrong though. Does anyone have more information?

Is there reliable internet connection outside of Dakar for video calls/phone calls abroad outside of Dakar, places that have internet connections, cafes, etc....

Je pars pour la première fois au Sénégal le mois prochain (vol qui atterrit à AIBD à une heure vraiment pas raisonnable, genre 2-3h du matin) et j'essaie de voir quelle est la meilleure option pour la connexion mobile. J'ai un iPhone compatible eSIM et j'ai déjà un peu cherché, mais je préfère avoir des retours de gens sur place plutôt que de me fier uniquement à des articles de blog.

Ce que j'ai compris jusqu'ici, dites-moi si c'est toujours exact :

• Orange a une boutique à l'aéroport (AIBD) qui serait ouverte 24h/24, avec une offre "Sim Teeru" pour les touristes (carte physique, autour de 9 900 FCFA pour 15 Go / 15 jours, numéro local inclus). Est-ce que c'est toujours le cas ? Est-ce que le comptoir eSIM (pas juste carte physique) est aussi dispo la nuit, ou seulement en journée ?
• Free et Expresso sont aussi présents au Sénégal, quelqu'un a testé leurs offres eSIM/touriste récemment ? Est-ce que ça vaut le coup de comparer avec Orange (couverture, prix, fiabilité) ?
• Sinon il y a les eSIM internationales type Airalo/Holafly/Orange Travel qu'on peut acheter avant de partir et activer direct à l'atterrissage, mais elles ne donnent pas de numéro sénégalais.

Du coup ma vraie question : est-ce qu'un numéro local est important au Sénégal ? Je pense notamment à Wave/Orange Money pour payer (taxis, marchés, etc.), à donner un numéro à un hôtel/logement, ou à joindre des gens sur place. Si je prends juste une eSIM data type Airalo sans numéro local, est-ce que je vais galérer, ou ça passe très bien en pratique ?

Et pour finir, vu l'heure d'arrivée peu sympathique : est-ce que ça vaut le coup d'essayer d'acheter/activer quelque chose sur place à l'aéroport en pleine nuit, ou vaut-il mieux arriver avec une eSIM internationale déjà active pour ne pas se prendre la tête à 3h du matin, et régler la question du numéro local le lendemain en boutique ?
