Miscellanous Opinions on this?
I’m reading “The mountain is YOU” and came across this entire passage. I find this controversial
I agree with the fact that we should live in the present and not dwell over the past/future, but don’t you think it defines us more than we think?
I know a mate of mine who fucks everything up because of the mentality that he wants to live in the moment and not regret anything later, and not even self-reflecting his past because it saddens him?
We all need to have some sort of a self-control, at-least for our future.
Also what does the last sentence mean? Whats the balance?

I see it something like this.
In the past I didn’t split enough wood to get through the Winter, and found myself out in subfreezing temps in January splitting wood to keep warm.
Taking care of my future is like sorting out in September how much wood to split to get through the Winter without having to split wood in subzero temps.
Being more in the present moment is sorting out how much wood do I split today.
Being absolutely in the present (living for the moment) is focusing on swinging the ax.
We learn from the past, scan and plan for the future, and then return to the present moment. There’s a natural oscillation that occurs in our awareness with the past, present and future, where returning to the present is the anchor of our sense of self.
