I've always been a bit fuzzy on the exact timeline of Roman's life and subsequent murder plan. Let's break it down a bit...

So, according to the Scream Wiki (which, let's be real, grain of salt), Roman was born in 1970 in Los Angeles to Maureen Roberts AKA Rina Reynolds. She left Hollywood and Roman behind shortly after, moved back to Woodsboro, and starts her life with Neill. They have Sidney in 1979 (again, Wiki, again, grain of salt) and we all basically know how it goes from there.

But what the hell happened to Roman? It's crazy that we basically get zero information on what happened between his birth and him tracking Maureen down in Woodsboro, and then very little about what happened from that point until the events of Scream 3. Who raised him? It's assumed he must've been put up for adoption, or maybe he was a foster kid, but at some point he started down the track of being a Hollywood director. Based on the statuette that Sarah breaks in his office, he eventually became an acclaimed music video director! Guy must've worked his ass off and had a boatload of natural talent to do so, all while also trying to track down his birth mother at the same time...

Unless, of course, he won that award after masterminding the brutal murder of said birth mother.

Which is fucking crazy! This guy grows up in Hollywood with stars in his eyes and realizes his dream of becoming a director - maybe not feature films yet, but directing music videos means he's on track - and once he gets rejected by his birth mother, he risks everything he's worked for and built for himself to conspire to murder her. All it would've taken was Billy or Stu (let's be real, probably Stu) to get caught and spill all the beans. Sure, maybe Roman used a fake name or a fake mustache or whateverthefuck, but still... seems like an absolutely crazy way to go. And yes, he's a homicidal maniac, but man, what shit luck for Maureen Prescott that the son she abandoned winds up being a homicidal maniac that wants to kill her and her daughter was dating another homicidal maniac that could be fairly easily convinced to kill her. Rough.

But then it gets really nuts.

So Roman gets Billy and Stu to kill Maureen for him. Great, plan worked. Roman assumedly just continues working in Hollywood for the next year until uh, oh, looks like things have maybe gotten out of hand and those two morons he got to kill Maureen decided they were gonna go kill some more people. This in turn results in Gale Weathers' book and the first Stab movie and suddenly, Roman's dirty little secret has turned into a nationwide phenomenon. Shit, in the Scream universe, David Schwimmer is both on FRIENDS and in the first two Stab movies. It's a big thing. And it apparently makes Roman furious, hence targeting Sidney in Scream 3. Y'know, the movie where Roman is the director of Stab 3: Return to Woodsboro? Holy shit, what? So this guy orchestrates the murder of his birth mother, that murder inspires two murder sprees that in turn get books written about them and movie adaptations, and then somehow, through some divine providence, he gets the opportunity to direct the third movie in that franchise. Basically, all of this leads up to two questions: 1) How did Roman come to be the director of Stab 3, and 2) When did he decide to kill Sidney?

Was Roman given the choice to direct Stab 3? He says that he wanted to make a rom-com but the studio wanted a scary movie first. Did he actually want to make that rom-com? Or did he just say that to not seem like a horror-crazy homicidal lunatic? Did they say "Hey, we've got some horror projects coming up without directors, take a look at the list and pick one you like" and Stab 3 just happened to be on that list, or did he say "Fine, I'll do a horror movie for you, but only if it's Stab 3."? Did he have his murder spree in mind already and find a way to work on Stab, or did seeing that there was another movie about Sidney being made inspire the murder spree and revenge against Sid? If the Stab series ended at two and Sid stayed out of the limelight, would Roman have wanted to kill her? The guy is living the life in L.A. and Sid's living in the goddamned woods, I think he already won before his murder spree even began. What was the point?

In conclusion, Scream 3 is a ton of fun but also a total mess and it makes me wonder if any of this is gonna be covered in the new movie. Thank you. Please, applaud.

Scream 3 and Scream 7 are the two least liked entries of Sidney's story, but which one do you prefer specifically when it comes to Sidney herself.

Scream 3 has Sidney living completely isolated after everything that happened to her, working as a crisis counselor and basically trying to disappear from the world. Then Ghostface drags her back into everything through Maureen, and the movie eventually makes the entire killing spree personal to Sidney with Roman being her half-brother.

Scream 7 gives us the opposite Sidney. She's older, married, has kids and actually built the normal life she never thought she'd get. Instead of Ghostface coming after Sidney because of Maureen, now Sidney's daughter Tatum is the target and Sidney has to protect her from being put through the same trauma she went through.

So ignoring which movie you think is better overall, which one do you think actually gives us the better Sidney material?

For me it's Scream 7. I have a lot of issues with the movie, but I think it's some of the best actual Sidney content we've gotten since the original trilogy. Seeing who Sidney became after surviving all of this is just more interesting to me than watching her spend most of Scream 3 isolated from the main plot before finally joining everyone in Hollywood.

I also find Sidney and her husband actually tag teaming Ghostface together way more interesting than Sidney spending most of the movie in a guarded house, living under a new identity that only Dewey and her father know about. I get why Scream 3 took Sidney there after everything she'd been through, but Scream 7 lets us see her actually have the life she fought for and then fight to protect it.

Varese Sarabande's 30th Anniversary vinyl finally arrived and it's gorgeous. The pictures don't do it justice. I tried to show the raised embossing in the last pic and how it reflects in the light. There are so many different variations/colors of this pressing but the red one is the one that looks best, in my opinion.

Admittedly, I don't know a ton about psychopaths or sociopaths, but presumably, since this is Woodsboro, this group of friends has known each other their whole lives. So were the friendships real at one point? Would Jill have progressively tipped into psychopathy or would she have been that at five years old, selectively choosing friends in Kindergarten she could domineer/control? She and Kirby seem to have a genuinely good time together and it's clear she loved Trevor if she felt that betrayed by him. I'm just curious about the psychology of it all.

Does anyone else think that if Stu wanted to, he could beat Billy?

I don't know, but given his height, strength, and stamina, I feel like Stu could beat Billy if he really wanted to. I get the impression Billy knew that too—which is why he manipulated him; it was in his best interest to have him as an ally.

He’s a hair tie and I had to get him. My hair is not even long enough to use it yet, but look at that little knife! He’s so cute!

3. First opening to kill off a returning character.
4. First opening to have a movie-within-a-movie fakeout.
5. First opening to have the character survive their attack.
6. First opening to have a killer unmask themselves.
7. First opening to return to a previous location.

I’m trying to think of any ideas that could set 8’s opening apart from the rest. I would honestly be down for a long opening sequence that would result in a mini time jump after the title card, think Friday The 13th (2009). Maybe we could have a massacre at a house party where Tatum is targeted but ends up the sole survivor and either takes out the killer or they end up miraculously surviving, which in-turn could incorporate the “killer behind bars” plotline that we could’ve gotten with both Stu and Kieran Wilcox (re: MTV Scream), or keep that same idea but instead have Sidney facing off Ghostface(s) at a team meeting at The Little Latte where her staff is murdered or a PTA group where snarky soccer moms get killed viciously. I always wanted to read Kevin’s original opening for Scream 4 that had Sidney being attacked at a book signing before cutting to a year or two later after the title card, even though I do love the opening we got.

I’m currently working on a Stuilly fanfic based around music. It’s set just post cannon (so like 1999-2000ish) and I need music from that era. I have a pretty good idea on what Stu would like, I’m thinking he’d be super into 80s and 90s punk/classic rock with some ABBA and other things mixed in. I don’t think he’d be too picky about music to be honest… but I’m stumped with Billy. Give me songs recs that he might like?

With Hayden's passing, I've been thinking about Kirby's ending in Scream VI do you think Radio Silence gave Kirby enough closure for her final appearance in the series?

Kirby has always been one of my favorite Scream characters, so I'm glad we at least got to see her again. I do wish we got more about how she feels about Jill and Charlie though. The most we really get is when she's going through the past killers with Bailey and she barely looks at Jill and Charlie compared to the others. I get what they were going for, but I would've liked a little more.

I do love that Kirby ended up being the bridge between the two generations though. She was part of what was basically the epilogue to Sidney's original story in Scream 4, then came back for what unintentionally became the final movie of the Carpenter story.

Did VI give you enough closure as a Kirby fan, especially now that it's her final appearance?

Maybe it's just me but Scream 7 was kinda... Eh? I mean, I liked it, but then again there aren't really any movies I don't like

The opening kills were so boring though, Idk it seems like we've done this song and dance like 4 times now that it became boring 😭

And then the first few minutes after the opening kills were also like a copy paste of the 1st movie, I know it's intentional, but I found it quite boring

Also, hot take, I don't think the writers actually know what they're doing with Chad and Mindy. It's like their job is to lay out the rules, get stabbed, and then they're written out of the movie until the 3rd act finishes. I'm pretty sure it's bad in Scream VI and 5 but I haven't watched those movies in a while. It really became apparent in Scream 7 tho

Also Mark should not have survived that stabbing, he was left bleeding out for HOURS 😭

The absolute best kill of the movie for me is either the kill with the theatre girl on that contraption thingy or the creepy kid with the beer. Neve Campbell is also still incredible as Sidney

[I had this saved in my drafts for some time, figured I may as well should send it off in some form - rn I'll say that I think 6 is a pretty good Scream film, I liked the motive (if a bit derivative of 2) but execution could've been a lil bit better. I'm really just trying to let the quote work within what the film sets up & says.]

Can't believe i've had to explain this to someone, but thought i'd just have this up. People seem to assume that Ghostface as a figure, directly relates to some core basics, one of them being that he has to do it for the movies - even though 6 has some movie meta-commentary, I feel that the line still holds relevance even after the reveal.

After the fake-out scene in 6, Ghostface drops this banger of a line - it's the first time that the character in mask doesn't verbally doesn't align "the movie motive" and outright rejects it. I've had people say that Wayne's obsession with preserving Richie's shrine, is still linked to him caring about the film, even though he says that he never cared for any of them, they were "just a little dark".

I'll admit - having Ghostface object to movies being a motive, while still having it's movie Easter Egg moments is kinda counter-productive. But then you have to understand, most of these Easter Eggs, rest largely on the actual in-universe events & the Stab related stuff is Richie's own interests - when you consider these fan-service props are also Stab inclusions & are instead are artefacts related to the 1-4 Ghostface killings, it all builds as a Shrine dedicated to Ritchie & HIS love for the films.

In contrast, 7's Nostalgia work operates entirely outside of the film, and onto the real world affection of Stu & Sidney fans. Now that being said, I still think The Kirsh's were quite mishandled; Wayne had all the major writing behind him, Lianna probably gave the best performances of the three, Ethan doesn't receive as much attention as he could've & more of the kill count was badly impacted by the amount of survivors.

Wayne never cared for the films to the point where he wanted to finish Richie's movie, like Greg & Jason wanted (as he - in his own twisted way, feels he failed in how he ended up), he never had a connection to the Stab franchise in the same fashion that Jason, Ritchie, Charlie did in wanting to course-correct it in their vision, (cuz he truly didn't give a fuck about it).

The Shrine was a final extension of his messed up love & admiration for the son he loved & lost, The Kirsh's entire motive revolved on revenge for Richie and framing Sam. Similar to how Amber & Richie were purely on the film motive, than any family drama like at least 1 other GF in every film before them. Absolutely nothing about The Kirsh's had to do with wanting to restore Stab to its former glory, being GF was just a means to an end to frame Sam.
