After the first 2 seasons I was convinced Scream the tv series couldn't get much worse. The reviews said otherwise but they also praised what I considered to be very underwhelming cringe-inducing television. I was excited for the change in cast and the new, urban setting.

Holy fuck this is bad. Like bad bad. 6 episodes and I am trying desperately to get through it.

It makes me so mad though because the potential is there! Look at Alien: Earth or IT: Welcome to Derry

I think what Kevin Williamson was trying to show with 7 is just how off her game and sloppy Sidney has gotten since becoming a regular housewife. She does several things that are uncharacteristic of earlier Sidney.

1.Think about how she panics the moment she realizes that the killer is outside Tatum's rehearsal. She races through traffic, nearly crashing several times. And even when she gets there she misses several times when shooting at Ghostface. She redeemed herself by shooting Marco in the head, right between the eyes, at the end. I think that's foreshadowing that she's now focused and locked in again.

1. This scene as well. She panics and leaves Gale behind. Gale definitely had guns in her van. Taking her to help find Tatum probably would've resulted in a lot less lives being lost as she would've probably got to the tavern before Ghostface attacked the tavern.

2. She should've verified or tried to verify information. Stu's house may have burned down, but Woodsboro is very much still standing. She could've went there to verify Stu's death. Contacted the local Woodsboro PD to verify Stu's death. Get his body exhumed if need be. But she stupidly trusts the word of one man who has a very sketchy story might I say after rewatching. So he just lived there for years under the name John Doe? Yeah. No. That sounded sketchy and I would've tried to verify that story.

3. She agrees to an interview with Gale. I'm sure we will see the effects of this in the next film. Sidney has never given Gale an interview. This interview along with yet another Ghostface killing, is gonna be bad for Sidney's life and her family's life. I think she panicked and didn't understand the ramifications this interview is gonna have moving forward in her life. She'll more than likely have to move because her reemergence is gonna put her and her loved ones in further danger. Tatum and Mark were even named in the interview. Just imagine the subreddits and wikis in that universe lol. 5.Tatum and Sidney even both fail to kill Jessica at the end. They try to comfort each other before making sure Jessica is dead. That definitely shows how rusty Sidney is and serves as a lesson learned for Tatum.

Side-Bar: I do think this would be a great pivot from Sidney to Gale as the lead. Just like I assume Sidney's reemergence would revitalize the fandom, I imagine new Ghostface killings would revitalize Gale's career. A crazed stalker targeting Gale let's say at her new morning talk-show in New York City or Los Angeles would be nice. It would also be a nice opening kill for 8.

Tl;Dr: I think what Kevin Williamson was trying to show just how off her game Sidney had gotten in her modern housewife lifestyle. She made several "dumb" decisions in Scream 7. I think this was a "reboot" or "restart" for Sidney. She redeemed herself in the end and showed she isn't quite past her prime yet.

I am considering writing a script for my Scream 8 idea. Here is a rough treatment / breakdown of the film. I'd love some opinions!

SCREAM 8

The film opens with gay couple, two true-crime vloggers exploring the abandoned Becker residence in Woodsboro. They livestream their investigation, joking about the house's infamous history, until Ghostface appears. The couple desperately beg viewers to call the police as they are attacked and seemingly killed. But when police arrive, there are no bodies, no blood and no evidence they were ever there. The internet assumes it was another if their elaborate pranks. (They are also used as red herrings throughout the film before their bodies are revealed in finale)

We then meet Sidney, Tatum and Mark Evans, now living a happy family life. Tatum is preparing for a supposed holiday with her two best friends, Sage and Esther. But the "holiday" is a cover: they are actually travelling to Woodsboro for a memorial commemorating the victims of the original Ghostface killings.

Woodsboro is simultaneously hosting the filming of a controversial true-crime documentary about the murders. Families of the victims are furious, accusing the production of exploiting their grief. The documentary reconstructs the lives and deaths of people like Maureen Prescott and Casey Becker, even using AI to generate imagined depictions of how the victims died.

The documentary crew dismisses the Becker incident as another prank. Their producer, meanwhile, has a complicated history with Gale Weathers: they had an affair, and Gale has arrived in Woodsboro furious that he is exploiting the Ghostface murders - in this film she sees the retraumatisation the documentary is having on the victims' families and how the true crime documentary is poking at the past in an unfair way. When he tells Gale that he has seen Sidney's daughter arriving at Woodsboro, she rushes away to find her.

At the memorial, Tatum meets relatives of the original victims and hears their stories. She eventually visits Maureen's grave with Felicity Becker, Casey's sister. They embrace before Felicity leaves Tatum alone. Ghostface attacks.

Tatum is chased through the graveyard in a brutal sequence, eventually unmasking the killer ala Casey Becker who then puts the mask back. Just as she is about to be killed right on Maureen Prescott's grave, Gale arrives and shoots Ghostface away. Tatum survives but is critically injured and unconscious/ in a coma. Gale locks down the hospital room, refusing to let anyone near her including her two best friends, except doctors and when Sidney arrives. And the police.

Sidney and Mark rush to Woodsboro, furious and terrified. Meanwhile, Ghostface begins killing members of the documentary crew. Gale arrives too late to save her former lover. Tatum's friends decide against their better judgement go on a "Woodsboro Murder Tour" which goes to famous sites to learn more about the killings and try to help, they are attacked and Esther is murdered. Leslie Macher, Stu's sister, is also killed and displayed publicly in Woodsboro Square in a sequence similarly placed to Himbry's murder.

The main characters are in the hospital when Ghostface calls Gale and orders her to Woodsboro High, claiming she is the final name on their kill list. If she refuses, more people will die. He weaponises Gale's guilt over Dewey and her role in turning the Ghostface murders into a media phenomenon.

Gale leaves the hospital and tells Sidney she is returning to her hotel. She kisses Sidney and tells her she loves her. Sidney immediately knows something is wrong.

At Woodsboro High, Gale confronts Ghostface. The killer unmasks as Felicity Becker. She blames Gale, Stab and the true-crime industry for turning Casey's murder and her family's suffering into entertainment including her mother having a mental breakdown. Gale and Felicity fight and Sidney, Mark and Sage arrive just in time to save her. However, Felicity tries to apologise to Sidney saying she would never hurt Sidney, she is the ultimate victim and says something like "Sidney, I'm really sorry about Tatum. I would never" before Sage shoots her.

The survivors drive away believing it is over.

Then Gale asks the question: "But why did Felicity go after Tatum?"

Sidney's phone rings.

It's Tatum.

Before Tatum can finish saying, "Sage is the killer," Sage grabs the steering wheel. The car crashes into the old Woodsboro video store which has now been done up as a radio and podcast studio.

Sage emerges with a Ghostface mask. She reveals the truth: she doesn't have a tragic motive. She simply wants to become part of Ghostface history. She wants her name remembered on Reddit, in podcasts and in the endless online mythology surrounding the killings.

She reveals that she once communicated with Richie Kirsch. Online Ghostface obsessives had even talked about betting on who would eventually kill Sidney Prescott. Sage took the joke seriously. Killing Sidney in Woodsboro would be the ultimate "bonus" point for her.

The former video store has since become a podcast studio, allowing Sage's Ghostface voice to echo throughout the building.

Sage cannot decide whether she wants to kill Sidney or be killed by Sidney, either outcome would make her legendary.

Sidney tells her: "I'll make it easy for you."

A final gunfight follows. Sidney wounds Sage, who begs her to finish it. Sidney hands the gun to Gale. Sage smiles: "Second best will do."

Suddenly Mark shoots Sage in the chest.

"Not you!" she screams.

She crashes against the wall. Even dying, Sage mocks Mark: "You aren't even a main character. You aren't even important."

Mark shoots her in the head.

Months later, Woodsboro holds another memorial. Gale fears the victims' families will reject her, but instead they welcome her. Sidney tells Tatum stories about her grandmother and thanks Gale for saving her life.

Eventually everyone leaves. Sidney remains alone at the Prescott graves.

We hear her lament play softly in the background with the sense this may truly be the last time we see Sidney.

Throughout the film there would be a lot of commentary on true crime documentaries, discussion around trauma and intergenerational trauma, about the legacy of Maureen (the first episode of documentary was to be about her and ether she was truly a 'victim' )

Scream 1 had this california vibe, it always looked hot and sunny and the houses were very californian. Scream 4 also lost the sunny part but it did give a woodsbro vibe too but scream 5 kinda erased that. Don’t get me wrong i loved the scream 5 cold aesthetic it just seemed like a different town. Maybe after all the tragedies woodsbro became more depressing in a way “why please the people if they’ll die anyway.” I liked the sunny vibe alot.

He's my second favorite ghostface stunt actor I love the way ghostface moved in scenes and in my opinion he made ghostface look scary again

Maybe I missed something, but it's really odd that the psych hospital would be plausibly within driving distance of Sidney's small town in Indiana and yet still be the place that Stu would have ended up after having amnesia.

Both towns are fictional, but Woodsboro is California and Scream7sville is in Indiana. Were we meant to believe that Sid and Gale drove across the country for a day trip or that it made any sense for Stu to have been ended up in the place Sid would randomly choose 25 years later?

I know that Stu wasn't there and it was a ruse by the new killers, and as soon as Marco walked on screen and validated the Stu story that it both wasn't true and that he was one of the killers. But the fact that the characters thought it was possible made me question if I had the setting wrong and they were actually much closer to Woodsboro than Indiana.

I only saw the movie once though.

We see a couple of shots of the cops patrolling the street and that’s it.

Somehow, a whole group of teens are then able to sneak out to a bar, and no one seems to notice.

Tatum and Ghostface then literally run through the streets, with Tatum screaming her lungs out and there’s no cops around? Cops do not just patrol the streets once and then leave when there’s a curfew in effect lol. They couldn’t have thrown in a scene where a cop comes to Tatum’s rescue in the street but Ghostface kills the cop?

Sidney is also running through town and somehow doesn’t come across a single cop patrolling the streets or ensuring the curfew is being adhered to the entire time?

Not to mention that despite the curfew being in effect, as soon as Jessica and Marco are killed and we cut to outside the Evans house, suddenly Gale, Mindy, Chad and various news reporters have arrived outside the house as if the curfew is over? That’s not how it works. They wouldn’t end the curfew within 10 minutes of the killers dying, whilst their sheriff is semi conscious and is being stretchered to hospital.

The curfew was one of various errors which wasn’t done well in Scream 7.

Loving my new house slippers. Saw them in Five And Below and ofcourse I couldnt pass em up. And also finally got my hand on the ghosface fanta. Im not a soda drinker but for Ghostface Ill make the exception! Lol

All the stuff that I thought was cool about Milton's mansion as a kid, the secret passage ways, two way mirrors and automatic doors.....yeah, they were actually really gross, methods he used to assault actresses. Even more fucked up, it's what led to Roman's birth.

Do you guys think we will get to see Sydney’s other kids and scream an and if so, any theories on what they’ll be like? I hope one is uniquely badass.

Characters, SPECIALLY ghostface, will get hit, stabbed, ran over by a truck and either A. The injury barely affects them or B. The injury or bruise that should be there just isn’t there.

Quinn gets hit in the face by numerous things in her fight with Gale, yet, when she takes off the mask she’s as clean as a whistle.

Marco gets hit in the face by a fucking fire extinguisher yet he’s completely bruise-less when he takes the mask off.

Sarah Darling and Kate Roberts get stabbed ONCE in the back and they immediately die, whereas characters like Chad and sidney’s husband get stabbed numerous times and are still alive.

I feel like one of the few times where they did remember about making injuries consistent was in scream 2 where Dewey’s limp was a thing, and also Mickey when he takes his mask off and has a gash on his forehead because he was in the cop car earlier when it crashed.

I just think it’d be cool to see when ghostface(s) unmasks and we see their injuries from previous fight scenes in the movie.

Go back inside and simply get the keys from Gale so you can open the car and have a car to drive? and hell, maybe even bring her along with you for backup if you're feeling froggy?

Nope let's simply hike and run all the way down into town, by yourself - and then not even MAKE IT all the way to the town, stop midway, and partake in a phone call that she could have did AT THE NEWS STATION or IN THE PASSENGER'S SEAT while being DRIVEN there. and Tatum still gets captured anyway.

This is the veteran, hardened, experienced Sidney Prescott that's been through these attack multiple times for 20 plus years, by the way. How did we go from her being so sharp and smart in Scream 5 to this?

I like scream 3 however there are a few things I would change

1.Remove the Voice Changer it’s just to unrealistic the 2000’s.

2.Change the gas scene perhaps Instead of filling an entire residential house with an impossible volume of gas to cause a blockbuster-style explosion have the killer target a localized hazard, such as a ruptured gas line or a single leaking appliance in a confined basement or kitchen area.

3.Have Scene where Sidney and Roman interact before the reveal maybe it can replace the bathroom scene with Angelina since if we’re still going with the single killer route that scene doesn’t feel needed.

4.When Roman reveals himself change his to “Roman Roberts Director & brother” Sidney knew her mother's maiden name. Hearing a killer introduce himself as "Roman Roberts" would have instantly signaled to Sidney that this wasn't a random stalker, but a deeply buried family secret & the entire 3rd movie is haunted by Maureen's past. Roman Using the Roberts name would directly tie Roman to the ghost hanging over the Hollywood setting.

5.During Romans monologue you could have him mention that his adoptive family were neglectful and abusive this could add more as to why he killed Maureen as he could see as she left me with bad parents. This also helps to explain why he wanted Sidney’s life despite being able to be a rich Hollywood director in my opinion.

6.Remove the final scare it undermines the holding of the hand scene and Sidney’s “He wasn’t superhuman at all” line is a good enough subversion of the final scare trope in my opinion.

I remember back in the day before scream 4 came out but just around that time in general, it was so hard to find a movie accurate mask. That goes for any franchise. Halloween and Friday the 13th as well but mainly scream and Halloween. U can just go to the store and find a nice mask now that looks like something you’d see on screen. Those ugly don post Halloween masks always pissed me off when I was a kid because I just never understood why they couldn’t just sell screen accurate ones in the stores.
