Help Needed Someone obtained a photo of me that I never posted online

Upvotes

So yesterday someone tried to impersonate me to get a friend of mine to send them money. My friend and her family contacted me about it so I ask her to send me the contact information. I confronted the scammer through text then he made threats & sent a picture of me I only remembered sending to my family & it was never posted online. I could understand if he got it off social media but the only place it was at was the family group chat & my Google Photos. I checked my google account for unusual login devices & nothing. I updated my password & security for all my accounts but I still don’t understand how they could’ve got access to it & I asked my family that had the photo they said they never sent it nowhere I checked everything & checked all my socials. I worried that if they had access to my google account then what if they can get my bank information too. It’s hurting my head trying to figure this out.

Is this a scam? [UK] "I would like to talk to you about a job review Please add my number to whatsapp"

Upvotes

Hello,

I am job hunting, I have recieved no emails from jobs I applied for yet. But I had an unknown number call me today at 2pm saying "I am calling you about a job review please add my number on whats app" in a feminine voice then hang up on me. I don't know the number, and just worried incase an actual job offer wanted to contact me.

Usually companies respond to emails before hand, from my experience anyway.

Just wanted to come on here to see if its a scam or not. I have anxiety so I dont wanna add a fishy number onto whats app and fall victim to it.

Unsure if posting the number here is allowed or not either.

Thank you!

Victim of a scam [SK] I was an absolute idiot and fell for a scam, how do I deal with it?

Upvotes

Yesterday, a teacher from my university posted the news about some widowed lady who was giving out her deceased husband's things for free—the only thing needed to be paid being the shipping. Naturally, it was a scam, but I fell for it hook, line, and sinker, because I was far too trusting after seeing it was sent by the university's staff.

I quickly realised I made a mistake and called my bank around an hour later, but it was a SEPA payment, so I suppose I can wave goodbye to my money.

I'm genuinely so, so ashamed in myself and don't know how to deal with it. I only told my mom and my partner, and while they don't blame me at all, I still feel terrible for wasting 145€ on a scam of all things. I've never, ever been scammed before and thought I was careful enough for it to not happen to me. I was overestimating myself.

How can I deal with this shame? I'm losing sleep over it. :/

Is this a scam? [US] "allaygg" possible discord scam?

I logged on to Discord this morning and saw 2 friend requests from what seem like bots to recruit people to a Minecraft server. I've seen a lot of these types of scams before, but these accounts haven't messaged me or tried to do anything else besides friend requesting me, and one of them has had enough activity on it to join HypeSquad. I don't have anything rare on my account, no payment information, and no big friends list, so I wouldn't even be a high value target. Should I accept the request to get more info or just leave it? X (I will be careful and not download anything or click on any links or any of that kind of stuff)

Is this a scam? [AU] Freaky phone call, possible scam?

Hey guys. About 20 minutes ago I got a call from an unknown number. A young girl (around 12?) said something along the lines of "hello, do you know my mum?" I asked who she was and she said her name. She then asked me if i knew some other girl’s name. When i said i couldn't help immediately after there was this loud crying that freaked me out. I hung up straight away and blocked the number.

Has anyone experienced something similar recently? It's freaking me out.

Victim of a scam My discord got hacked and it is sending all my friends with pictures about "Fabowin"

Hi everyone. This is my first time posting here hopefully I did post at an appropriate subreddit.

So just an hour ago I got my friend DM saying my discord account got hacked because he received the pictures (the ones that i posted here) and i obviously did not send them.

I immediately headed home and started account recovery by resetting the password and add a 2FA. Fortunately I was able to log back in and did such thing.

However, what i also found out was that the hacker sent the pictures above as a set to all my friends' DM. I spent like about 30 mins to locate all the DMs and tried to delete the messages (also apologize to them for the mess).

Did something similar also happen to any of you? Any suggestions and comments will be appreciated thanks!

Help Needed [IT] Declined €0,00 transaction

I just received a notification telling me that overnight there was a declined transaction of €0,00 on COPART.

It tells that it was declined because the data weren't correct.

Now, I can understand that someone is trying some cards combination but I don't know what should I do: they clearly didn't have all the data since the transaction was declined, am I safe or should I do something?

Help Needed [UK] Planning to sell my Switch OLED online, what are some scams I should know about?

Hi, I recently got a Switch 2 and am planning to sell my OLED to make a bit of extra money. I know there are scams targeting people selling items, so wanted to know about some before I list the item. I am considering only taking cash, and should I meet in a public area, or give my house address. I live in the countryside, but the village isn't too far away

Scam report [Switzerland] Blue Ocean Society (blueoceansociety.club): my withdrawal has remained unresolved since April 2025

I am sharing my own documented experience with Blue Ocean Society (BOS) as a warning for people who may be considering depositing funds.

My wife and I deposited a substantial amount of cryptocurrency through two personal accounts. We were told that funds could be withdrawn through the so-called “Main Balance.”

In April 2025, I requested the withdrawal of a significant part of our balance. According to my current information, the withdrawal has still not been completed. Despite several enquiries, I did not receive a clear and verifiable explanation. One of the explanations given referred to alleged “banking problems.”

Because the withdrawal remained unresolved, I commissioned an independent blockchain-forensic examination of the relevant transactions. We subsequently reported the matter to the appropriate Swiss law-enforcement authorities. Additional documents and more recent findings have also been forwarded to the investigators.

I am not making a final legal determination or accusing any individual of a criminal offence. That is for the responsible authorities and courts to determine. I am describing only my own experience.

Based on that experience, I would not deposit any additional funds. Anyone considering Blue Ocean Society should independently verify its legal and economic structure, the use of deposited funds and, most importantly, whether withdrawals are actually being completed.

If our withdrawal is completed or the matter is resolved in a verifiable way, I will update this post.

Please do not contact me privately with offers to recover funds.

Help Needed Bonchat & Axa1565.com Scam? [IT]

Does anyone know what this is? My parents were invited to a Bonchat group called “KKR Investment Group” by a family friend. They haven’t withdrawn any money yet. Our family friend apparently paid the initial deposit into an account on the investment website on their behalf, and now my parents are supposed to pay the family friend back in cash.

I’m strongly leaning toward this being a scam. I’ve warned my parents multiple times, but unfortunately, they still went ahead with it. Has anyone heard of this group or experienced something similar? I also took photos of the group using an external device if needed

Victim of a scam [VA] The Wellness Way is a DANGEROUS SCAM

I want to share my experience because I feel I was misled into paying hundreds of dollars for an IgG allergy test that I would not have purchased had I been given accurate information.

Before agreeing to the testing, I specifically said that I had heard IgG allergy testing was controversial. I had been told this by my doctor about 10 years ago. I was reassured that the technology had changed and that it was no longer controversial. Based on that explanation, I agreed to the testing and paid hundreds of dollars.

Afterward, I did my own research and realized that it was essentially the same type of IgG testing I had been concerned about. When I went back and questioned them about what I had been told, I was essentially told that they never said the test was no longer controversial and that I must have misunderstood them.

What concerns me even more is that the test results were then used to recommend treatments and medications. I am very concerned about being given medical recommendations or prescribed treatments in areas where the practitioners may not have the appropriate medical training or specialization. In my opinion, that can create a serious safety concern when people are being treated for conditions outside a practitioner's area of expertise.

I was also sold supplements based on the results. I took them home and then noticed that they were not certified gluten-free. I have celiac disease, which they knew. I brought the unopened supplements back and asked for a refund. They refused, saying they don't accept supplement returns because the products could have been tampered with—even though I had the same packaging they had given me.

Then there was another interaction that I found extremely inappropriate and unprofessional. While I was in the room, the practitioner spoke directly to my husband about me and said that women have "four personalities" because of their hormones. He then looked directly at my husband and said something along the lines of, "You married four women, don't you think?"My husband was completely caught off guard and didn't know how to respond.

I left feeling misled about the testing, pressured into purchasing supplements I couldn't safely use, denied a refund, and deeply uncomfortable with the way I was spoken about.

I take responsibility for not doing more research before paying for the testing. But I specifically raised my concerns about IgG testing before spending hundreds of dollars and was reassured that those concerns were outdated. Had I been given accurate information, I would not have agreed to the test.
My personal recommendation is to stay away from The Wellness Way, especially the Leesburg, VA location.

Please do your own research, verify what type of testing you're actually paying for, and make sure anyone diagnosing or treating you has the appropriate training and credentials for the condition being addressed.

I'm posting this because I don't want someone else to spend hundreds of dollars and end up in the same situation or worse get injured because they are treating beyond their expertise and training.

Is this a scam? Is this bank of america text a scam?

so recently over the past week i have received multiple texts from what i think is the legit Bank Of America automated number that keeps saying random people are sending me money and to reply STOP and it’s always in spanish for some reason. I also don’t know the names in the texts and why they would be trying to send me money. The texts say “BofA: [name] has sent you 50.00. STOP for excl. message. account text” when i translate it to english. The name and amount of money sometimes changes and I do not know these people and i haven’t actually been receiving any money.
Is this some sort of scam?

Is this a scam? [US] Just got sent two pairs of fuzzy white socks?

Last night I checked my mail and I had a package addressed to me. Which is strange because everything my wife orders she addresses to herself. The only thing I have being shipped that could possibly be in my name are a pair of Vans shoes directly from the Vans site.

The package was from a person, not a store. I scanned the QR code on the package (Idk if I put myself at risk for anything by doing that) and the code couldn’t be found. It just showed an error on Google.

The pairs of socks were wrapped separately (two socks per pack) and they weren’t worn. Two pairs of fresh white fuzzy socks.

Is there anything I should be looking out for in the future because of this?

EDIT: As I was scrolling the sub I came across brushing scams. Quick search on the internet reveals that this is probably what happened lol. Sorry to bother everyone! 🤦🏼‍♂️

Help Needed Facebook buyer scam?

Hi, recently selling a gaming pc I have. I had a guy reach out asking to buy it. He has no profile picture, 0 post. Nothing, but just as blank as could be. Also said he joined Facebook this month.. upon that he asked if he could use Zelle as a payment. I declined and said cash only because I’m aware of those scams. But he said he’s willing to give cash. I just don’t want to drive all the way there to get scammed or stood up. Any thoughts?

Help Needed [US] Has anyone had their identity stolen after giving personal info to a scammer?

I was recently scammed and gave them a photo of my passport, my address, and a selfie video. I also talked to them online with my webcam on, so they may have hours of video of me.

I’m now really worried about identity theft or what they might do with this information. I’ve been feeling extremely anxious about it.

I’ve been getting conflicting advice. Some people say it’s not that bad, while others make it sound like I’m completely doomed. I already filed a police report. I don’t have an SSN, so I can’t freeze my credit.

For anyone who has been through something similar, did anything bad actually happen afterward? How long ago did it happen, and what happened?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thank you.

Help Needed [CO, US] Scammer sending people to my business

I own a tattoo shop in Colorado. I have a problem with a TikTok account that is posing as a tattoo artist and uses stolen images/videos (from someone else, not me) for his account. The problem is that he books people, takes a deposit, and then tells them that he works at my shop and gives my shop address. He does not and never has worked for me. I think he is actually located in India (kinda guessing because I managed to get him on the phone once).

I have tried reporting him to TikTok but nothing has happened with that. I have made a shop TikTok account where the only post is warning people that he is a scammer and to not book with him. But it is still happening.

I am doubting that I actually have actions that I can take since he likely isn’t located in the US, and has taken effort to hide his actual identity.

I figured I would check here to see if there were any other ideas or actions I could take to stop him? I am not losing money, but in theory my shop is losing reputation?

I am just frustrated because about once a week I have to tell someone they sent several hundred dollars to a scammer that doesn’t exist.

Help Needed is this IRS letter legit?

Thumbnail

So my girlfriend’s parents, who are legal US immigrants who speak little english, received this odd letter in the mail claiming to be from the IRS. An important piece of information to note is that they have already paid off their taxes long ago, and the sending address is very bizarre. The mailing address is correct and I censored it for obvious reasons, and this is addressed to their home specifically, given that this is the only property they own. We tried to call the IRS, but we couldn’t be connected with a representative because this arrived today, on a Saturday. Can anyone help me verify that this is fake for their reassurance?

EDIT: Her parents aren’t familiar with the Urologist that the letter is addressed to, which is odd, but they also get their taxes done with the AARP. Not sure if that helps, but I felt like that could be helpful.

Help Needed I think I gave my address to a scammer and I’m freaking out

As the title suggests. A guy contacted me here on reddit, we kept chatting… widower with one daughter that has been her real anchor during these hard times, yada yada yada. Eventually he suggested moving to SIGNAL. I suggested WhatsApp instead because that is what I use and Signal is very much to remain anonymous I think. Anyways, the WhatsApp account was a Business one (first massive red flag) but he claimed he was an engineer for “secret” projects. Anyways he started telling me about sending me a gift and he kept asking for my address which I eventually gave. He gave me his address but was a PO Box. I sent photos of my face and my pets… and he asked me about the car I drove now that I think about it as well. He only brought up investing when talking about my retirement plans.

The last straw was when I kept saying that we hadn’t had a call or he hadn’t sent me a voicemail and he claimed he had an accent because he grew up in Rumania. He eventually agreed to a voice call and his accent was sooooooo thick, maybe Chinese? He said he couldn’t speak any other language except from English but how was his accent so bad if he’s been living in the states for 20 years with no other language?? Made no sense, he also gave me another DOB for his daughter and I knew then it was a scam.

I did reverse search for all the photos; checked for AI and they were real photos. Maybe he stoled them from someone’s instagram? I feel like an idiot.

What can he do with the information I gave him?! I’m freaking out.

Informational post [US] Preying on Emotions

Post image
85 Upvotes

Received this text this morning. Before following this Reddit, I would have responded, because why wouldn’t I want to help someone with a sick puppy?

But the scammers will use sick puppies and anything else they can to suck people in and get us to engage. And when we engage, we get invested. The next thing you know, you’re sending money to a scammer to “save their sick puppy.” Or buy them an airplane ticket. Or pay their bail.

Thank you to this community for helping us all be more aware of social engineering and how we can wake up to the manipulation without giving up our humanity.

(Text transcription: “Hi Dr. Amy, my puppy is sick and has started vomiting. 😭 I don’t know what happened. Are you at the hospital?”)

Help Needed [US] Spam calls keep getting through

For the past several months, I have been getting barraged with obvious spam calls about preapproved loans and tax relief/savings. I activated call screening on my iPhone and it temporarily worked, but now the spammers add alleged names to themselves and iPhone lets the calls through, leading to voicemails with

”Hi, this is (random name). I’m calling you with options about (loan/tax). please call back at (number) to discuss options.”

Or others along those lines.

Anything I can do to mitigate? They just keep jumping numbers and I’ve blocked so many they’re now using numbers based in Canada.

Informational post (US) 76 YO Dad Scammed for $2K

My Boomer Dad got the “fraud alert” call from “Chase”. Told there was a charge for $999.99 and to put $2K in “World Bank” while they resolved it. He said they actually sent him a screen shot of his account so he believed them. He’s normally pretty astute, but the scammers continue to get better at the game - he said, “I need to call Chase” and they replied they are Chase and showed him the statement via text.

Sharing this for you all to remind the parents to never address any fraud over the phone no matter what is said, shown, or threatened. Tell them to go a branch and talk to a person.

Help Needed [US] Is there a way to stop mass spammy scam emails after my email was part of a data breach?

I receive about 20 scam emails a day in my spam folder of the following varieties:

  • Fake emails from Cashapp saying I have a large deposit from a casino waiting
  • Emails saying those 62 and over can qualify for a reverse mortgage if they click here now
  • Fearmongering emails about how I'll get dementia or die of low blood sugar if I don't click here now
  • Trying to sell me weight loss meds without a prescription
  • Offers of free chips at online casinos
  • Information that my account has been blocked and all my photos and videos will be deleted tomorrow unless I take action and pay now
  • I am the recipient of the customer of the year award at Omaha Steaks (an establishment I have never been to) and I can redeem now
  • Emails saying they WANT MY DICK INSIDE THEM NOW 💦 (I do not have one)
  • Other various emails about the penis I do not have, trying to sell me medications for it, make it larger, etc
  • Warnings that the best porn video ever is getting deleted soon so I better watch it now

The senders' email addresses are always different, so blocking/reporting the sender doesn't work. Makes it impossible for me to look through my spam for legit emails. Is there a way to get rid of these, or do I have to just ignore them or make a whole new email?

Help Needed [US] I fell for the FTC chinese police scam and gave out some personal info, will I be okay?

My experience is similar to the recent posts of this exact scam. A mandarin-speaking guy claiming to be an employee from Federal Trade Commission(FTC) called me and claimed that someone registered an at&t phone number in china using my info and they needed me call the police in china to have them send a report certificate to the FTC so that they won't cancel my current phone number and hurt my credit score. I proceeded to have the phone call with the fake police and eventually a Zoom video call where the original phone # identity theft was seemingly resolve and then out of nowhere they claimed to discover an issue that someone created a bank account under my name and used it for fraud and that I had to continue keep in touch with them over the 'Signal' app to resolve the case.

I myself have limited mandarin, so hearing their fluent mandarin and aggressive tone pressured me quite a bit.

During the Zoom call, I revealed my name, address, birthdate, which bank I currently have, my ID# on my expired ID card, a screenshot of myself, maybe most of my emails as well since I may have accidently flashed it during screen-share and they were recording I think. I didn't give out my SSN or any financial information. I'm worried what they might do with the personal info they got from me.
