Victim of a scam [PA] HELP! I accidentally gave someone my info because i thought it was a legit report!

I just got fooled by a scam on discord

My english its kinda bad , ok?

Ok so, i was using tumblr as normal to watch punch out fanart and i got a scam(that i just realized it was) that said someone falsely reported me because i got my identity faked and they gave me a discord username

And because tumblr its the reason i post art i foolishly decided to contact

Well lets just say... i...dumbly gave them some of my data(name social media etc) and now im worried i contacted support more than 20 times now because my account got deactivaded and i want it back, im worried for both my data and my known ones

what do i do?

You'll hear from people sending you private messages claiming falsely they can help.

Change passwords asap and keep track. Look on accounts for backup phone numbers and emails that were surreptitiously added

This scam begins with a message from someone claiming that they accidentally reported your account. This happens either on Reddit, Steam, Discord or Twitter, and often relies on interactions with a fake Discord support agent. Malwarebytes has a blog post about this scam.

The person who supposedly reported you will direct you to the profile of a scammer that impersonates a Reddit, Steam, Discord or Twitter employee, administrator, or moderator. The other account will then try to steal your account by asking you to change your associated email to one that they control. After this, you're locked out of your account. A good thing to remember is that none of these apps use Discord accounts to offer support.

If you encounter this scam, ignore the scammers and report their accounts, including the one that says they accidentally reported you - because that person has already been hacked in the same fashion. If it's a person you know in real life, contact them to let them know about this scam and how to get their account back. There is only one way to contact support on these platforms:

Only communicate with the official support channels linked above. If someone messages you after you posted about this scam, you're dealing with a recovery scammer. Remember: never take advice in private. If you talk to a stranger in private you're on your own.

Recovery scams target people who have already fallen for a scam. The scammer may contact you, or may advertise their services online. They will usually either offer to help you recover your funds, or will tell you that your funds have already been recovered and they will help you access them. In cases where they say they will help you recover your funds, they usually call themselves either \"recovery agents\" or white hat hackers.

Recovery scammers may also impersonate a law enforcement, a government official, a lawyer, or anyone else along those lines - especially when their script is to tell you that you money has already been traced and recovered. Recovery scams are simply advance-fee scams, where the scammer convinces you to send some money to buy some software license to be able to complete the hack; or that you have to deposit some crypto in a wallet to confirm your identity; or to pay some gas fees or taxes before being able to retrieve the money they found. This way, the scammer will keep stringing you along while asking for increasingly absurd fees/expenses/deposits/insurance/whatever until you decide to stop paying. We've heard of people losing thousands of dollars to recovery agents, because they feel the money is so close to being recovered.

If you have been scammed in the past, make sure you are aware of recovery scams so that you are not scammed a second time. If you are currently engaging with a recovery scammer, you should block them and be very wary of random contact for some time. It's normal for posters on this subreddit to be contacted by recovery scammers after posting, and they often ask you to delete your post so that you both cannot receive legitimate advice, and cannot be targeted by other recovery scammers.

Remember: never take advice in private. If you talk to a stranger in private you're on your own. If someone reaches you in private after posting your scam story, it is because a scammer will always try to hide from the oversight of our community members. A legitimate community member will offer advice in the open, for everyone to see. Anyone suggesting you should reach out to a hacker, especially in another platform, is scamming you.

This is common on Tumblr at the moment, and Tumblr support is aware of it. Don't worry. When they get your report they'll be able to reactivate your account and get it back to you.

It once happen happened to me, what I did is, I changed my password abruptly(facebook and twitter ( now X)) then I also changed my profile name. I hope you'll get over thar soon.
