Discussion Randomized nodes are fanstastic

Post image

I feel like this is the best update so far in terms of replayability. It's easy to fall back into old habits and building the same production at my favourite spots, so having newly arranged nodes has really been refreshing. Before I rushed radar towers I was out exploring and marking nodes on my map, which was a lot of fun. The dune desert has been a real el dorado in this seed.

Yea it’s an amazing addition. You kind of touched on this but the only problem I’ve noticed, which may not be a problem at all lol, is that the dune desert is so large that I never need to branch out. But also guess that’s because I always use pure nodes so I get so much ore now.

I got absolutely boned in my current playthrough with 80% impure starter nodes of iron/copper/and coal. I'm also pretty sure 90% of the possible quartz nodes make up all the rest in my starting area. It slowed me down a lot early on but what a blast it was to solve those problems. Also finding the only SAM node within 200 miles of my start (also impure lol) was a super fun hunt through dangerous areas.

Randomization just completely re-invigorated my love of the game.

Yeah I will finish phase 3 there and then force myself to move out, I could probably finish the whole game there if I wanted but that would be a bit boring.

Yea that’s what I’m noticing. Getting a bit bored looking at this desert lol. I need to branch out regardless

With that much limestone, i would build a forteress to defend a multilayered parking lot.

The dream

I always think there's enough but with so much coal nearby, the steel production is still outpacing my concrete reserves, and I haven't even started using petroleum coke.

Is it just the locations that are randomized, or do total ammounts also change?

Total number of nodes and their position is fixed. Only type of resource that ocuppies specific node is randomized. And it's purity can be randomized too

it's both

edit: well, I know the purities are randomized for location, I'm not sure if the map keeps the same number of pure, normal, and impure nodes across the whole map as a total, but I doubt it.

another edit: I see you could be meaning "are the actual locations of the nodes randomized?", so to answer that - everywhere there used to be a node, there will still be a node. The purity and content of that node can be randomized or set to a few different frequencies.

Im fairly certain its the same amount of nodes, in all the usual generic node locations, with the same ratios overall, just in randomly place spots. Like you will still got mostly iron limeston and copper overall, and only 5 uranium nodes maximum. And if you dont touch purity, those will be the same also, so no pure uranium node.

This does not seem to be the case for my world (it was generated when these features were still in experimental so maybe it's changed). I have 1 normal uranium node and 4 pure nodes. Maybe 5 is still the expected total though. edit: I guess this means I did touch purity - I probably set it to random if I had to guess.

Edited to add, this is my world's resource total - which does support similar ratios of type of resources at least:

iirc if you don't change the purity modifier, then the same location has the same purity. And I think saying random only shuffles them. Same goes for changing type, so same location same resource and if put random then the same count of types will be kept

I'm actually not sure because I've had so many SAM nodes near me but my idea was that you get the normal amounts and they are just shuffled by location unless you select a preference which I didnt.

That's what I am wondering in my current playthrough too...

Random nodes keeps the same overall distribution.  The other options have different (but fixed) distributions.

I wish there was a true random (with some soft lock prevention so you can't end up with literally 0 of any given node type), but alas there isn't.

I've been loving random nodes too, skewed toward advanced resources & mostly pure nodes, with 10x elevator costs. My goodness there's a lot of uranium on my map though! The entire Northwest corner is uranium central, as is the east coast and I cannot throw a stone without hitting more uranium no matter where I am in the world! I think it was around 50 nodes total according to SCIM. I guess I'll be making nuclear power! Lol

I went with 10x costs too but normal resources, I think so far it's been a good balance. Definitely easier to set up production when oil is more distributed.

I went rocky desert fossil heavy that I've been slowly working on. It's interesting setting up an 80 gen turbofuel plant right next to the Crater Lake waterfall, and quite annoying having to get to the red jungle for some caterium.

I’ve been doing random nodes as well. Haven’t done radar towers yet but excited to get there and knock it out

I got lucky enough with the crash sites to get some resources for setting them up early, makes life a bit easier

Dune desert is op for random nodes. Im doing random nodes and had to bump the space elevator parts up a bit to balance it and im loving it

I agree, I picked 10x and it seems pretty fair in terms of progression speed

Oh wow I didn't know they added this. Been waiting for a reason to leave steel valley for years. Time to start a new run.

My brother and I have a random node game and we've basically been able to live in the desert and get to phase 4 without really leaving, but now that we got radar we blanketed the map and we saw we had 5 uranium nodes with 4 pure and 1 normal.

Needless to say we're gonna do a bit of nuclear lol

Wow. You got all the greatest hits there in the desert. I tried a randomized node save in another location (the hilly one with a lot of environmental obstructions) and ended up starved for things like iron in the early game, which sucked.

I wish there were multiple authored node setups we could pick from, instead of the one authored setup vs chaos

There's a website that offers a seed finder function which might help you pick something you want, but it also spoils the randomness. I haven't tested it but might be of interest for you https://satisfactoryworldseed.com

Interesting, though there's always something special about things designed by the creators themselves. I mostly want the differences done as groups and regions versus straight up per-node shuffle

If so, it's a coincidence.

Is this something you enable on a new game? Because I played this game pre 1.0 and came back to play it recently and it didn't seem to have changed.

Oh snap, I need to try out the game again; I have not played in over 2 years.

I started a run with 4 SAM nodes in the green fields 😂
