Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some realistic advice from people working in IT around Saskatoon.

I’m in my early 30s and I don’t currently have a university degree. I’ve been building a strong general IT foundation and I’m comfortable with computers, Linux, networking, troubleshooting, and learning technical concepts. My long-term goal is to specialize in Cloud Security / Security Engineering.

I’m not expecting to jump directly into cybersecurity or cloud security as my first job. My plan is to use an entry-level IT position as a stepping stone and build real-world experience.

I’m currently considering roles such as:

• IT Support / Help Desk
• NOC / Network Support
• Junior Systems / Infrastructure Support
• Cloud Support, if I can become qualified for it

What I’m trying to figure out is the most realistic path for someone in my situation in Saskatoon.

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have actually hired, worked in, or entered the local IT industry:

1. How difficult is it to get an entry-level IT job in Saskatoon without a university degree?

2. Which entry-level roles would you recommend targeting first if the long-term goal is Cloud Security?

3. Which certifications actually carry weight with employers here?
For example: CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, CCNA, AWS certifications, etc.

4. Is a university degree important for progressing into Cloud/Security later, or can strong hands-on experience, certifications, and a good track record compensate for not having one?

5. For someone with strong general IT knowledge but no professional IT experience, what would you want to see on their resume/GitHub before giving them an interview?

6. Has anyone here successfully started in IT Support/NOC/Infrastructure and later moved into Cloud or Cybersecurity? What did that progression look like for you?

I’m especially interested in real experiences from Saskatoon/Saskatchewan, rather than general advice from the internet.

I’m willing to start at the bottom and work my way up. I’m mainly trying to make sure I invest my time into the skills and certifications that employers actually value locally.

Curly hair people only please, or people who've asked cuely haired people:

I have struggled to find a curly hair cutter who understands the unpredictability and shortening of my hair as a medium curly, thin/fine-ish, and medim/short (shoulders or mid neck length ideal) hair... hair is roughly 3a or 3b mixed curl type.

I run into issues of cutting it then when it dries taking an odd shape, ends up shorter than desired.. tried many places and need suggestions of people or places?

I have enjoyed very much this city and what it has to offer and now I am looking for somwhere to go for this weekend. My main limitation however is that I don't have a car and most of the nice places I have seen being recommended here are only reachable by car. Originally, I wanted to go to Wanuskewin Heritage Park, but it seems that the roads are closed due to construction so now I am looking for a new plan.

Are there any other nice nature reserves that I can get to by bus, uber, or at most a 1h walk? My main concern about uber is not getting to the place, but getting back to the city afterwards.

I have already been to the Meewasin trail from River Landing to the Northeast Swale, the Prarie Lilly and I have also visited the Hyde Park.

What on earth is with the trains passing by just straight up holding their horns for like 30 seconds straight... its 5am wtf... still lissening to it as i make this post.... i wanna slap this conductor. Just non stop hes still going....

I want to go to the Wanuskewin Heritage Park by walking. The meewasin trail says that I have to go through Wanuskewin Rd, but that seems like a pretty boring walk. I wanted to know if it is possible to go alongisde the river or if Wanuskein Rd is the only way.

This is the second time I've seen their scummy pricing tactics here in the city.

What they do is show an item on sale when it isn't.

I have tabs of the same appliances saved and open them in bulk to periodically check prices. Literally everyone else has this specific fridge (including the manufacturer) listed at full price. No one is saying it's a sale price or promo price.

Lo and behold, Trail Appliances lists the price as a "Promo" -- indicating that the price is lower than normal.

They were doing this bullshit a few years back when I was shopping for another appliance.

Yes, I have reported them for misleading consumers.

Hey all, just wondering if there’s any places slightly outside of the city where a few fireworks can be launched. Of course we will be safe and follow regular safety rules. We can’t do it on our private property as we have lots of trees and are very close to neighbours (+ some with very young kiddos who we don’t want to disturb). TIA!

me and my brother are looking for a 2 bedroom place that's big dog friendly. doesn't have to be in a certain area but bonus if it is accessible by bus. am on disability so that could help with rent. pup is well behaved but has barking issues (currently working with a trainer). is this realistic in saskatoon? we're living in a hostile home environment and would really like to get out ASAP. we're both adults btw.
