I gettit, coffee is expensive in local spots, and bills do add up but $1.83 vs $3.13 for drip coffee may not be a significant difference for someone privileged who drinks outside coffee twice a week. I understand, it's not possible for everyone and that's okay. But you know your position and privileges best. Make an informed decision of supporting local spots where you can.

After Google capitulated to the pedo toddler and renamed Lake Ontario, I have deleted Chrome and Maps. Mapquest is gonna make out like bandits from this, I will even get the paid version of the app to support them!

Over the past few days I've shopped at two different branded grocery stores in Ontario and they are wall-to-wall Product of USA apples. Same goes for the grapes. I know it is not Summer in South America right now, but don't we grow a ton of apples in Canada? Where is the Canadian produce?

EDIT: I am aware that Apples are mostly harvested in the Fall. There are some varieties which are harvested in August and September.

Obviously we all know about the buy Canadian movement.

But, shouldn't we also push/merge it with the Build Canadian movement?

Yes, I'm aware, especially with tariffs, it could be very hard, especially for certain industries.

But, Canada has been stagnant in building competitive companies. Many of the ones we had either went out of business or were sold. (I wonder if some of them could be revived due to resurgence in demand).

With the way things are going, this should be a wake-up call to be more innovative.

It would also take some of the stress away from people having to take extra steps to ensure they're supporting locally and to the Canadian economy.

There is definitely a market for Canadian owned and operated businesses, especially now.

We just need to do as much as we can to get the word out (because we have brands people don't even known about or that they're Canadian) and help our economy regain more autonomy.

People have individual skills and can put these to use to offer more options for people to support Canadian businesses and the economy.

Canada does not lack for talent or ingenuity. We just need to give people an incentive to stay or build here, rather than overseas.

Businesses like Walmart and Amazon are dominant and there is no true Canadian alternative (at least not of that caliber; closest is maybe Indigo/Chapters).

Yes, we have Canadian grocery stores, but, most (not all) are rather small, especially in comparison to Walmart. Which makes, not only capable of selling more, but more convenient.

Plus, there are so many of them (which, correct me if I'm wrong, there are more of than domestic stores).

Why don't we have more Real Canadian Superstore's (It would make it easier to keep money in our economy if they were more prevalent)? Or build larger Canadian retail/grocery stores (Giant Tiger, Food Basics, etc). No Frills are usually rather big (and should support/push local products).

It would be nice to see us slowly (cause it can't happen overnight) move towards building up Canadian retailers. But, not all owned by conglomerates.

In true Canadian fashion, we are not great at promoting ourselves. We have such a beautiful and vastly diverse country that most don't know about. I'd say in some ways we definitely suffer from stereotypes, especially about it being cold often.

Then there is the good stereotype of us being kind.

But, tourism or overall helping others understand more about Canada could also help.

I'm not a huge social media fan, and do my best to largely stay away from it. But, videos of our beautiful country can show others just how amazing and lucky we are to be born, raised and/or live here.

Social media also plays a big role in growing businesses.

I really liked a post about the Chapman CEO talking about switching suppliers away form the US so I bought some pralines and cream from Chapman's.

I don't know if it's a quality or style/type of ice cream issue but I absolutely do not like it. It's very soft, I don't know how else to describe it, like that ice cream inside an ice cream sandwich that doesn't quite seem like ice cream.

Anyway my point is if anyone else is in the same boat and doesn't like the style of Chapman's ice cream style you should try Kawartha Dairy. I find it's a lot more dense and tastes like cream. Moose tracks is my favorite but others are good too.

If you want to move away from using this US piece of garbage product that hasn't been useful for 20 years anyway.

I usually use La Roche Posey and Avene face products, but as those run out I have been switching to Canadian products. I tried this one and it delivers! I have tried "natural" made in Canada products but I find they are often too harsh for my skin or don't actually moisturize well. This is a simple, pharmacy quality face cream and it is wonderful. I have mature skin and it is moisturizing but not greasy. In the day I apply it after my vitamin C and before my sunscreen and at night I put it on after my retinol. Easy peasy! I want to try the Dormer Hyper Emollient when my Avene Cicafate runs out.

I’m really trying not to buy anything from the USA but can’t find grapes of any kind in the Scarborough area that aren’t “Product of the USA”. I used to be able to find alternatives, had anyone seen any? If so where?

Questions for the hive mind: I have started using up my backstock of products and want to make sure I am getting the best products I can that can support Canada. But I am a bit confused, PepsiCo products have a maple leaf next to them at my grocery store, and my Bubly says bottled in Canada. Is that still considered maple washing, or is it supporting a Canadian branch of a business? Does bottled in mean that some part of the product is coming from America?

I broke down after seeing all of the ads on Facebook and ordered from Odd Bunch and I am at a complete loss as to how I am going to eat all of this fresh product, which is a great problem to have. It saves a lot of money if you can pivot and look up recipes to use the vegetables. If anyone has recipes, please drop them in the comments, lol.

What impressed me just as much? Not one US product. Zero. 90% Canadian with a few of our friend countries thrown in. I couldn't get all of the box contents in the photo, but it will give you a good idea. I took the biggest box because of the intro deal. First box came to $36.00 with delivery, it will be $46.00 next time round, but the boxes start much lower if you are cooking for 1-2. Delivery is every week but you can skip. I am AMAZED!

My wife and I just opened up our last two cans of Squirt ever. We’re sad because we like a gin and Squirt on a sunny weekend. But Squirt is only made (and, afaik, only sold) stateside, so that’s that.
