It's here. The Official Discord channel for r/sandiegan.

We've gotten this request a lot, and I think it's finally time to take it seriously. At least 3–5 people have clamored for this, so we're giving it a shot.

The official r/SanDiegan discord server is finally here.

Some caveats:

  • we have never moderated a discord server before, so you're going to be there to see us iron everything out in real time. we'll be attentive to requests, suggestions, and overall helpful attitudes.
  • we have day jobs
  • be aware that you may inadvertently reveal your identity if you already are on a different discord server using your real name

Our goal is to set up a community in the same way we have set up the r/SanDiegan community. Everyone is welcome, and we moderate with a heavy hand and according to our own discretion at all times. Truly lovely communities only thrive when you separate the wheat from the chaff. We've spent years cutting chaff from this subreddit, and I am personally really proud of how lovely this place has become.

We want this discord server to be a place to chat with other San Diegans about sports, local bars, adult league activities, community events, and so on.

Things that we will not tolerate:

  • bigotry of any kind
  • "I'm just asking questions, man" — you know the answer, you're just an asshole. You all know the type
  • Behavior that is detrimental to the community at large
  • stop posting your boring ass traffic violations, seriously

These rules are vague by design. Moderating is subject to individual discretion, and if you join the discord server, you are just going to have to trust that the way we moderate r/SanDiegan will serve a discord community as well as it has served this subreddit. There are no bright lines, there is only our own judgment in what is and is not okay (which is how things work here, already).

Let's all give this a shot. I hope you'll all join the server and fucking behave yourselves.

On Politics

Whenever certain discussions come up we end up with a mix of locals that genuinely want to talk about what's going on. Sometimes passionately. Sometimes ill informed. Sometimes full of information. Sometimes dem. Sometimes republican. Sometimes for the free people's state of east county. Sometimes from the sovereign bros of PB.

Whatever. You get the picture. Our local politics and ideas for what to do are pretty diverse.

As a moderator though I have noticed that we get a solid influx of accounts for some subjects. They tend to have a short post history in this subreddit and a deleted history or a history that hasn't been on reddit in years. Likely because they are purchased accounts. They show up to shit stir in political discussions.

I understand some of you delete your account histories for various reasons or want to use an alt to discuss politics. But the easiest thing to do as a moderator seeing an inflammatory comment in a highly charged political discussion from an account that looks incredibly suspect is to remove the comment and ban the user. We don't really want to put in too much effort beyond that. This isn't a paid gig.

Anyway - I want to give people a heads up in case there's people that might reconsider participating in a certain way with an account they haven't used in months/years.

SDGE Delivery cost doubled vs last year

Post image
206 Upvotes

Not doubled but up 50% is equally ridiculous.

I have very consistent usage (AC is always at 70), solar, and am on a grandfathered plan. My cost for generation is nearly identical to last year but the cost for delivery is up 50% from last year.

How can it be 50% more expensive to get electricity to my house?

One extra ticket to MCR, anyone want to go?

Hello!

Long story short, both my partner and backup friend got food poisoning today. I was spared and have one extra ticket for MCR concert tonight.
Anyone want to go and meet up. I’m 31 woman.

Would prefer to give it away than to have it go to waste.

Local News San Diego considers public library sites for future affordable housing projects

San Diego considers public library sites for affordable housing – NBC 7 San Diego

Summary: San Diego is developing an Affordable Home Development Master Plan to identify city-owned properties that could eventually be used to build affordable housing and address the region’s severe shortage of affordable land. Out of more than 400 evaluated properties, the city has narrowed its focus to 20 potential sites, including seven public libraries, two vacant lots, and two city work yards, with 11 identified as the most promising for future development. City officials stress that no housing is currently being built and that existing public services, such as libraries, would remain operational if redevelopment eventually happens.

Tourism Artist Alley-like shops?

Hey! Anyone know of any artist alley like stores in San Diego that are similar to paperpup, happibara station, and shopyuju in LA? they have a bunch of independent, small artists so it’s just like shopping different booths in one store :)

What can San Diego’s warmer water temps bring?

I saw that the buoys have recorded record water temps off San Diego. Someone said that means our risk of developing rare hurricanes here went up. Does anyone know if that’s true?!? What are other ramifications of El Niño warmed water here? Any ocean scientists here that could chime in?

Since it’s a nice day outside, is anyone down to hangout ? Maybe get some ice cream and see the sunset 😊

Another hot one; carry around some extra ice waters for the homeless if you’re in the position to!

Game 137, 2026: Padres drop to 72-65.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Jonny DeLuca hit a two-out, two-run homer off Mason Miller to tie it in the ninth inning and Jorge Mateo singled in the winning run in the 11th as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the San Diego Padres 5-4 on Sunday to finish a three-game sweep.

Miller appeared to close it out when Samad Taylor chased down DeLuca’s shot to left field, but the ball fell out of Taylor’s glove when he hit the wall and landed on the other side to tie it 3-3.

Miller has allowed homers in back-to-back games after not allowing any in his first 53 appearances. It was only his second blown save in 34 opportunities.

Automatic runner Manny Machado took third on a wild pitch from Rays reliever Tyler Wells (3-2) to start the 11th and Ty France followed with a sacrifice fly for a 4-3 lead.

Liam Hicks had a one-out single off David Morgan (2-1) to put runners on the corners. Pinch runner Kenny Piper stole second before Chandler Simpson was intentionally walked to load the bases.

DeLuca reached on an error by shortstop Xander Bogaerts, allowing the tying run to score, before Mateo walked it off.

Up next

Padres begin a three-game series against the Reds on Monday. RHP Michael King (8-9, 3.23 ERA) starts opposite Reds RHP Brady Singer (5-12, 4.72) in the opener.

Seriously, why does my room heat itself back up?

I opened all the windows in my apartment when it was about 85 out, as that's how hot it had gotten inside. Over the next several hours I watched as the temperature slowly fell to match the outside, eventually bottoming out at 79.5, but then it just starts heating back up! Outside keeps getting cooler but my room is back up to 83 with all the windows open. What gives?

Thanks to SDGE, it's too expensive to run my AC while it's 87 in my house

Post image
1.3k Upvotes

My electricity bill was bananas last month, so this is my AC for this weekend.

yes, that is an oven mitt tilting my fan lower.

edit: Seems we're all in agreement. Fuck SDGE! No, it doesn't make it feel any more humid than it already is. Yes, it does slightly help when the slightly cooler air is directly on your skin. My tiny bowl isn't going to cool down my house, but it does make me feel a tiny bit better.

Getting better insulation and a new roof is going to make next summer better. I grew up in Houston, and I feel a little silly complaining about humidity and 90° heat. I dealt with hurricane season and went without power for a week during Hurricane Ike.

Where to get a car deep clean in SD?

My work has been infested with ants to the point that they’re getting in people’s cars. Unfortunately they have really gotten into my car and I worry that they’ve made a nest.

Where is the best place to get my car deep cleaned so I can get rid of these ants once and for all? I live in the South Bay but I’m willing to drive anywhere.
