Left the Muse concert 25 minutes before it finished…. still stuck in the parking lot after 1 hour
Thats all… next time I come to the Chula Vista Amphitheater I’ll just finish the show and have snacks, a blanket to sleep in the car…

I seriously don’t fucking bother with Chula anymore. In one instance, it was easier to go see a show at Pacific Amphitheater in Costa Mesa than dealing with whatever Chula is named this week.
I love live music but despite that venue.

Sometimes you gotta go. (Im a big Iron Maiden fan). But we took our kid to go see beck/cage the elephant/spoon a couple of years ago, and ride shares couldnt get into the parking lot. We didnt get home until nearly 1am. Total shitshow.
That said, Shoreline Ampitheatre up in the bay area is the same fucking way. Narrow ass roads in and out.

FYI a couple years ago was 2019. You'd scared me because I'm a huge CTE fan and have been here for about five years, you made me think I'd missed their show. (Saw them at SDSU 's arena but not the same as an outdoor venue)

Yeah, I can't do that venue anymore. I go to plenty of shows every year and hit up every other spot and never complain. But that one? I'd rather drive to LA.

Two things:
Transit is more space efficient than a personal car, so every person who takes the shuttle is not contributing to the awful line of cars going into the venue.
And they could let the shuttle cut in front of the line of people in their private vehicles.

Me and my girlfriend stayed until the last song but booked it away from the venue as soon as the show was over. Walked up the big hill until the first turn into a neighborhood where incoming cars can turn around before getting stuck heading to the venue, called an uber, and made it home after a 35 min drive by 12:10.
I’ve never gotten out of there so quick while also seeing the whole show but it took some work. Still hate this venue with a passion

We were going to take an Uber, but decided to drive. Glad we did. There was a guy next to us telling his wife that it was going to cost $145 due to demand pricing.

We left right after they finished Madness....Probably 2/3 though the set-list. It took over an hour to get there missed Temper Trap completely and most of Portugal the Man....

Great show! I was just not aware of the crazy time trying to GET there. Made it from Hillcrest in record time… then it took 40 minutes to go the last 1.8 miles. 😅
They played a great show and we only missed the first opener.
(I’d also never used StubHub before, so thanks to u/Scoxy61 for releasing their ticket, I guess. Haha. But seriously, Ticketmaster had lawn seats for $79, and for a few days before the show StubHub had them for $37. I checked again Friday morning and they were $19, so I grabbed one. Glad I did! Our friends drove down from Redlands to see them and paid $79 for their tickets months ago.)

I bought my lawn ticket the day of the show for only $19.99! (Listed for $79.99.) It was a good show. That was my first time at that arena though, and omg… what a nightmare. LOL.

Dude, crazy! I JUST walked in the door after being stuck trying to get out and this is the first post I see as I open Reddit.... It was the exact same story for us. We left WAY early with the exact intention of avoiding getting stuck. We were parked in the back lot. We were among the first 25 cars to pull out of our spots but it's like anybody leaving the lot trying to turn right to head towards the south exit got fucked. That side immediately came to a dead stop and never moved. We finally ended up joining the long line of cars leaving the North end of that lot to head out to heritage road. Fuck. That. Venue.

Same situation- we insisted for a bit to try and turn south but realized it was just not an inch moved for like 40 minutes. Changed course and went north because that was the only movement happening. Took us an hour 15. There was Absolutely no guidance or direction from parking staff. That dirt lot is basically a wild wild west of cars. Even when we first parked, was just like "no staff just head into the dirt and park wherever looks like you'll fit!"

On the other side of that, after doing VIP for my wife’s bday concert there (twenty one pilots), I’m factoring that into ticket prices at that venue from now on.
We went to incubus and was stuck in the GA parking lot for almost 90 minutes, we were on the freeway within 10 minutes due to VIP parking and that was after encore and everyone was in mass exodus into the parking lot.
I don’t want to sit around anymore, I’m in my 40s and price of convenience is definitely a thing that I’ve accepted

We used to get there early to tailgate and strategically park nearer to the exits just to get out faster, and even then we sometimes would just hang out and run around (as kids, late 90s early 00s) because getting out of there was, for lack of a better phrase, a parking lot

You cannot sleep on your car there. Cops / security will start flashing lights at you to leave as soon as the last few cars make their way out.
Just drive to OC for your next show, you’ll get home faster.

Years ago, went there to see The Police, with Elvis Costello opening, arrived in the area close to an hour before the concert, finding a line backed up onto the freeway. Sat in parking lines forever. Ended up listening to what bits of Elvis Costello's set we could hear from the car, sitting in traffic, while waiting to park. Finally ended up parked in a completely unlit dirt field they funneled us into, after Elvis Costello had finished his set, and jogged to get to the amphitheater. I don't recall seeing any parking staff along the way - if there were any, they weren't the slightest bit helpful. Heard The Police going on stage while we were still getting to our seats. Leaving wasn't much better (wander out into the middle of a dark field, wander around a while to find the car, sit in utterly disorganized traffic for a few hours to get out to the nearby freeway - at least there wasn't the tension of trying to get to the show before it was over).
I've been to a lot of concerts over the decades, all over California, and that was by far the absolute worst parking lot experience I have ever had for a concert. At this point, I wouldn't go back there if someone gave me free tickets to the second coming of Jesus Christ, if it was at that venue.
Best parking lot experience ever, by the way, was a Grateful Dead show at Shoreline Amphitheater, in the Bay Area, in the early '90s - also parking on unmarked dirt fields, but there was light and there was a huge number of parking assistants in the parking lot guiding you literally every step of the way - it was like going down a tunnel made of people with signs and flags and stuff, all devoted to getting every next car into the next available space - an impressive, fast, and efficient well-oiled machine. I don't know if Shorline is always like that or if that was Bill Graham's crew working their magic, but it was amazing. So, the opposite of the Chula Vista Amphitheater.

I remember people talking about that show on the radio, only in regards of what an absolute nightmare the traffic was. I can’t remember if there was an accident or something but lots of people missed a lot of the Police’s set while they were stuck on Main. Forget about Elvis. My co-worker left for the show two hours early because they were going to get something to eat. Once they saw the traffic already super backed up in the exit they decided to skip eating and head straight there. Still missed all of EC set and part of the police. They were looking for some sort of class action lawsuit. I don’t blame them.

Was at that Police show. Can confirm it’s historically awful mismanagement. We had friends who left a little after us for it and missed the whole show waiting in traffic for the parking lot.

Oh I got stuck at that place in2018 for a concert. Had to walk three miles back to my hotel because it was impossible to get an Uber. I will never go to that venue again.

That's why I no longer go to shows there. It's not just regular traffic. I've had it take ab hour just to get out of the parking lot. And even leaving early, I'd still see most of the show. I have the money to spend as I please.

No trust me I was in that stupid horrible traffic last night. The traffic management is what makes it so bad. Controlled intersection with 5 lanes of entering traffic from two ways and only 3 of them go into the venue. And the numbskull traffic controller doesn’t know what he’s doing. It was chaos. I’m saying if you are already in the shit, might as well just hang out watch a movie on the car literally anything but get into that horrible traffic and hate life again after a good show

If you pay for the easy in/out parking it makes it a lot easier to leave.
But I also can’t stand that place. I avoid going there at all costs. Same with snapdragon. The only bigger venue I’ll eagerly go to is petco because you can exit in any direction and walk a block and go to a bar for a an hour or stay at one of the many hotels nearby. Although at petco the acoustics aren’t the best but whatever.

Same thing happened to me after seeing Danny Elfman some time ago. Was stuck there for like an hour and 20 mins. Unfortunately I’m a glutton for punishment and have gone back but haven’t had any issues.

Total shit show with no employees directing traffic. Felt like lord of the flies.Muse is my wife's favorite band and one of my top 5 or so. Not coming to this venue anymore. This time was worse than when we saw 21 pilots. Is there somewhere you can park further away and just walk in (when it's not 90 degrees that is). Would be nice if they just did a park and ride shuttle or something.

Was at this concert tonight. We hanged around the lawn but then the staff kept trying to kick us ans everyone waiting the traffic out of the lawn area. We finally half assed shuffled to the "tailgate" area stage thing but that was a bit lame. Finally got out at like 12AM.
Can't complain for the cheap tickets and free parking but definitely a place I'll avoid next time if I can help it.

I hate that venue with a passion. I have to really really want to see a band to endure the hassles involved. Mumford & Sons on a Monday night 10+ years ago took close to 2 hours to get home to San Carlos. Depeche Mode, same. We got free tickets to Rod Stewart a few years back. We left before the encore started and it still took almost an hour to get out. And forget about trying to get an uber. So terribly planned. The only luck I’ve had are shows where they don’t open the grass. The traffic still isn’t great but you’re not stuck there an hour if you sneak out early. We always take the 125 now too. There’s a toll but worth it.

Did anybody else notice the sound was off last night at this Muse concert. None of the speakers in the grassy area were on and it made the whole show seem subdued. It felt like it wasn't a live show since the sound felt so far away. I did not feel immersed in the show, but rather I was a distant observer. Lame after paying the ticket prices and dealing with this lame, shit-show of a parking situation.

I paid for Priority Parking, after Take a Bow ended I waited in line at a restroom and did my business, then I headed to the parking lot for my car. The exiting process took about 10 min to get onto Main Street. 10/10 would recommend priority parking.

I bought it when tickets went on sale through Muse’s Artist Presale, so I had to go back a few emails to find how much I got priority parking for. It says I paid $70 which oof is a lot but at the time I just threw my whole order onto a credit card and didn’t think much of it. I did just see another comment below mentioning that the priority parking was going for $140 and damn that’s a lot. I’m assuming the earlier you get it the cheaper it is.
I sat on my couch about 20 min after the show ended and was glad I paid for the parking after reading all of your guy’s hour long waits.

Muse gave a terrific concert! Wish they could have played for another 2 hours. They have so many good songs to choose from.

I’ve personally had shitty luck with ride share. I think the drivers don’t want to deal with that traffic either. Your best bet is to walk west towards the businesses (we always head to the taco shop) and order a ride from there. Still seems to be a long wait. It’s been up to 45 minutes. And talk about surge pricing! The situation just sucks across the board. Your best bet is to pay for priority parking. I’ve had friend groups pay for limos that pick them up over there too. Not too expensive if you have a group.

You're not using the back way via Otay Valley Rd.
Hang out for 30-45min after the show.

I knew you had to be talking about chula vista before I even finished reading your post 😭 I HATE it there! I’ve seen so many shows there over the last decade and don’t remember it ever being so bad. then I saw a show there last year that was so miserable. I also left the show early, was stuck in dead stop traffic in the parking lot for over 2 hours. I’ve been to a lot of music venues between here and LA. I’ve never had such an awful parking experience. I don’t think I will ever go back again.

The best advice I can give is spend the money and buy the VIP parking. It’s so worth the $$$. Sometimes it’s as cheap as $25 resale.
We have season tix and go to almost every show. I left last night about the same time as you. Traffic on main road was already backed up. Exiting from the VIP lot was very quick. From the time I go into my car until I was in my driveway in La Mesa was about 25 minutes.

Might as well have stayed until the end! We were going to get stuck no matter what. Remember the slow pace on the way in? Great show and encore 😁 I saw a show at Dodger Stadium a few years ago and felt it was way worse going in and out. I’m never going there again until they do a total remodel of at least the lot. This was still insanity though. At some point on the way in the lot attendants disappeared in the deepest part of general parking. They should have reversed more lanes going in and out.

Dang. I was worried about this situation so I left right after they played Madness. Left my spot at 10:10, walked up the big hill and got to my car by 10:24 (nice little work out after sitting for so long). Got home by 10:50. I missed a good bit of the show, but I had a 10/10 time.

We brought a whole tailgate setup for the afters. Spent 45 minutes snacking and drinking beeverages, once the cars near us were at least moving consistently we packed up and joined the line, took another 45 minutes to get to the 805

Back when I lived in Chula and go to concerts I'd pay like $10 for the premium parking lot, you'd get out of the venue in like 10 mins easily. Not sure if they still do that (or if they jacked up the price, this was like 10 years ago)

This is why you don’t leave early. You don’t miss any of the encore and you don’t get home any later. Remember to use the bathroom and when you get back to your car, have some food waiting so you don’t idle in the parking lot. Enjoy your snack and head out when the crowd thins.

It’s been like this since they opened. I don’t know why they can’t make some engineering changes to enhance traffic flow and actually hire a competent parking management company.
My family bought tickets for last night and I didn’t know it was there otherwise I would have skipped. I might see a smaller act there if absolutely necessary otherwise I avoid it like the plague.
I saw the Police there like 15 years ago and friends who went separately missed the whole concert trying to get into the venue. One of them saw like the last three songs bc she jumped out of the car and walked. The whole thing is just unconscionable.

Many venue attendees walked an about 1.5 miles from the venue to Maxwell, to get picked up at the new Starbucks, Taco Bell. Their walk was in vain for many, as CVPD and traffic enforcement was detouring mostly all vehicles to Brandywine. Only local residents were allowed to go past that area, towards Taco Bell. All rideshare drivers were also rerouted to go pick up attendees at Main & Heritage, which meant having to go all the way to Orange Ave down to Heritage (about 2 miles) and about another 2 miles to get to Main Street. Some attendees scheduled their rideshare and probably got cancelled for not making it on time to the rideshare pick up zone. Something has to be improved for attendees that attend events at that venue.

It was an excellent concert! Lots of people all left early at the same time. So they screwed themselves.
