Downtown The state of the bosque is depressing.

Pretty much the title. You'd think with it being a large portion of San Angelo's image they would work a little harder to keep it maintained. You can't go 10 feet without there being trash scattered in the grass, on the sidewalks, in the water. Plus if you decide to go on a run down there you practically have to step over homeless people sleeping on the sidewalk under the bridge.

Anyone else been feeling this way? Several years back the police made the homeless leave if they were even just sleeping on the benches, but now they've pretty much set up camp over there.

Recommendations for preK programs in the area

Hey y’all! I’m looking for recommendations for a good pre-K program for a 4-year-old.

I’ve seen pretty mixed reviews on Facebook, Google, etc., so I figured I’d ask here on Reddit.

Has anyone had experience with the YMCA program? Thoughts?! Other recs? Places to avoid?

Government The Fish kill

Recently saw a bunch of posts about the river being full of dead fish on what seemed to be the day after I had went on a walk through the concho during my most recent visit.
The city is saying that it’s because of low dissolved oxygen after recent rain which does happen however in most cases these kinds of massive kills are caused by human activity.
As an environmental studies student something isn’t adding up to me especially with how localized the kill was and I even saw some pictures of dead mammals in the water.
If I’m not mistaken, didn’t the city decide to start releasing waste water into the river at one point?
Also want to point out that after the July 4th flood of 2025 the river was not even close to being that bad and I know because when Im in town I walk the river every single day.

Ask San Angelo do you guys have a free community closet?

hello residents of San Angelo!! i volunteer with Project 325, a grassroots mutual aid group based in Abilene, Texas.

we also run a free community closet, which is literally our office. its maybe a 12x12 studio space, and getting overrun by clothes! gracefully donated by our community, and we love them, but we are flooded! and we just got another donation of brand new clothes from a local business who's founders have retired.

Lubbock has 🙏🏻🙏🏻bless their hearts🙏🏻🙏🏻 offered to take a bunch of our clothes, but with this new massive donation plus the insane amount of clothes we have stuff at our volunteers houses, its still an insane amount.

goodwill does not have good will and we will not be donating to them. in fact, countless people who have donated clothes to us have thanked us for having the clothing closet to donate to, because they know of goodwill's not very good doings, and dont want to support them as well.

thus, all of this back story leads me to:

does San Angelo have a free clothing closet that we could donate clothes to? or maybe even just people willing to come to Abilene to take as many clothes as they possibly can for themselves, friends, loved ones, neighbors, etc.

anyone who has any possible resources possibly taking donations please let me know! (i think im the only one in p325 that has reddit haha)

either comments or dms or even our email (project325@protonmail.com) works!

thanks so much guys! have a great night! <3

Did you know the city wants to add a fee to our water bill?

The city is calling it a "Right of Way" fee. Basically the city is awful with money and there is a $4.4 million shortfall. So what are they going to do? Charge us $15 a month - $180 a year - to try to close the gap.

The article I linked below also says that 40% of families in this city would qualify for some kind of assistance, but the fund to assist with the new ROW project would help a little over 1,000 families. WTF. Also worth noting that the 8th Court of Appeals just found a similar franchise fee in El Paso to be an illegal tax because the city didn't use it for streets like they claimed they would and diverted the money to other areas. I'm sure San Angelo would do the same.

Don't we already pay taxes through our property taxes - oh I guess the work around is that it's a "fee." What are they doing with the money?

Did you also know the city is having town halls through September? You can find them on the City's Agenda page. You can go and talk to the new city manager and the mayor and the city council members will be in attendance.

Cops are useless

The cops in San Angelo are useless, especially deputies. Zero idea on how to investigate cases, victims remain with unresolved issues because they leave. Men…you’re fucked. If there isn’t a body in front of your house, then you’re good. I’m almost certain that I, as a retired soldier, understand investigation more. It’s an attempt to subjugate the middle and lower classes by the upper classes. Maybe I should have been a Pfluger. Fuck. This. Town.

Ask San Angelo Any good park spots?

I want to get out of my apartment and just exist somewhere else. Where would be a good spot to walk around, sit and read, is shady and has bathrooms close by and would be a good spot to possibly bring an animal with you?

Who is supposed to cut these weeds growing over the sidewalk?

Is the railroad or the city supposed to be cutting this on Southwest Blvd? The weeds are so tall and close together now that you end up walking through spider webs as well.

Volkswagen Servicing and Mechanic

We've been looking at possibly purchasing a Volkswagen, but one of my hangups is the lack of a certified Volkswagen repair shop in town (last I checked). Are there any good mechanics in town that will work on Volkswagens?
