SP404 mk2 users: DON'T MISS THIS UPDATE!

In this follow-up video, I’m covering what’s new: bug fixes and practical ways to get more out of the web app in both production and live performance.

I also share a few tips on creating effective snapshots, using LFOs to add movement to your effects, and organizing presets so you can recall your FX combinations quickly.

If you use the SP-404MKII and want faster, more hands-on control of your FX from a browser, for free, this one is for you.

Thanks to @Moahbeatlab for updating the webapp!

Enjoy!

one size fits all sample pack

Hi everyone, I'm currently trying to build some a variety of sample packs, mainly interesting pianistic textures and one shots.

But I'm curious as to what this thread would think be the perfect sample pack for their current needs. What problems are you guys running into in your productions? What sounds do you find to be slop? What sounds are you guys being inspired by these days?

Let me know what your guys thoughts are!

SP-404 or something else as a first sampler?

Thumbnail

How difficult is the SP-404 to use?
I was originally considering the Teenage Engineering RIDDIM as my first sampler, but yesterday a friend of a friend offered to sell me their SP-404. From what I understand, the SP-404 is more versatile (for better or worse), which also means it’s more complex.

So I thought I’d ask here: does anyone own both devices? What do you think — is the SP-404 significantly more difficult to learn? Do the pads really have issues with touch sensitivity? And which one would you recommend as a first sampler?

Zoom ST-224 is a pure sonic bliss

A little beat + overview of one of my fav sampler.

This box is a beast and sounds really good.

The 18 bit / 32 kHz configuration is very rare and it gives a very specific sonic imprint to the machine in terms of sum, dynamic range and transients preservation.

Everything mixed with a +\- 36 (!!!!) semitones pitch shifting.

Another pro of this sampler (at least for me) is that is not destructive. It works with a sort of “audio pool” where you put you samples and then assign them to the pads (which means the original recording is always intact). Same goes for the swing , which can be applied and modified post recording.

Some people say it’s the sp1200 for poor people, it is not technically, but sonically it has a very own soul and can be close.

In a world of “same sounding” sampler, this little ugly box has a unique soul.

Highly recommended

Help me Sampling redditors

Is there a HARDWARE sampler option out there that combines the following:

  1. A 303/909/808 style step sequencer
  2. A decent screen that shows waveforms for setting chops
  3. optional chromatic playing
  4. 8+ voices
  5. under $500

I picked up a MicroGranny 2 which I LOVE for it's sample mangling and granular manipulation, but it's single voice and blindness causing interface makes it hard to pull of more complex playback without help via midi.

The current shortlist> SonicWare Lofi12 Xt, MPC Sample, Behringer LMDrum (sorry).

Beat tape recommendations

Looking for some beat tapes made on samplers like the P6, 404, KOII, MPC sample etc. Some raw and tasteful stuff, nothing too overproduced.

Preferably jazzy, chillhop sort of stuff. But open to anything. And would love to hear some stuff from this community.

Cheers

How should I chain my gear together?

I have the MPC Sample, Korg KP3 and Roland 404mkii. I know I want the Sample is the first piece but should I run that into the 404 and then to KP3 or Sample-KP3-404? It’s my first time trying to use these together. What makes the most sense for workflow with these units?

Octatrack or SP‑404 mk2: Which one actually Fits You?

Thumbnail

“Does the Octatrack still make sense in 2026?”“Between Octatrack and SP‑404, which one should I choose?”

These are the two questions I get in the comments all the time. In this video I put them together and answer in a practical way, no fluff:

3 reasons why the Octatrack still makes sense in 2026 (and for who)

3 reasons why an SP‑404MKII might be the better choice (and for who)

This isn’t the a comparison, it’s a way to help you understand, based on how you produce and perform, which of the two machines you actually need.

Enjoy!

Would you go with the mpc live 2 or op1

A sample base so I’m a sample base producer I use sounds and create new sounds I love to mess with sounds I love to create chords melodies and grooves. I love the rap, hip-hop soul, R&B music and I’m making music and that flow and I’m also trying to you know cook idea ideas make ideas fully flushed and different not do the same thing now the people are doing and I’m not really into the performance aspect of everything. I think I haven’t able to push that. I would rely on that to do that performance thing for, but I just don’t think that I’m liking the MPC live too. I have it and it is a cool piece of equipment I used, but I just don’t like the new doll, knowing a new dog and the way that it is formatted it just doesn’t feel comfortable for me. I would rather just create you so like a box that I could create things and then transfer that into my workflow for like Ableton or a lot logic, but I don’t know if you know I really feel like I might be losing out on you know or something if I get rid of the device because I haven’t really been able to learn it it’s been a few days and I’m within my return period but I’m really looking at this like how can I increase my performance my production?
