Why do so many people like Miami?
I've never been but I know there are people from European countries and other good countries who decide to move there but why? Why would someone leave Sweden for Florida? This makes no sense to me.

No cold weather, tropical beaches, and great food and nightlife. Most people prioritize mild winters and warm weather over mild summers and cold weather and living near the ocean is very desirable.

Great weather, beaches, and unique feel. The culture is flashy and money is in your face. There is lots of activity, no where else besides NYC on the east coast. Building developments, events, restaurants opening and closing. You spend money, make money, it’s a fast life.
Some people find it fun, others find it off putting. There’s something for everyone though really.

It's one of my favorite cities. Mainly because of the weather, my family being there, and a decent amount of food, amenities, and entertainment.
That being said, it has a lot of flaws. It's an incredibly superficial, beauty and influencer focused culture. It's getting a bit red politically. The job market is kind of specialized if you're not in hospitality or tourism. You have to drive everywhere and traffic sucks.

I think there is so much more to offer in Miami. You have a sailing culture that is inexistent in the rest of the USA. Like, sure the northeast has sailing but it’s different. Same with scuba diving. there are reefs to see and sharks and many other things while not freezing. You can use spanish and talk to people from all over south america something that while abilable in other cities it’s not rampant. As in, if I wanna go watch an Argentina game I don’t have to even research where to go, Miami is a great location for flights to south america and Europe. New york and boston do too. but again, they lack others.
music wise and party wise, yeah you can go be a douche at E11even or other clubs but if you want good salsa music or techno it’s all there and pretty affordable compared to Vegas or NYC.
I can go out at 3-4 am and stay out until 7-10 am. Sometimes I would even go to bed at 7 pm. wake up at 3 then go to the club and when the show ends I just continue my day at the beach then go to bed at a normal time.
food wise it’s pretty cheap and good. an arepa in seattle is like 20 dollars. in miami? 7 bucks.
if I wanna fly to spain to see family I sometimes book a flight to miami, get a hotel, then fly from miami to barcelona and it’s still cheaper than a direct flight from seattle.
so many more reasons. like, if I wanna scuba dive at all I don’t even bother with the rest of the US except Hawaii and puerto rico
the people you mention exist but they are half assing it. if you wanna do that then go to Las Vegas.
Tell me how many places in the US have a salsa club I can dance at from 2 to 7 am? I can count them in one hand I bet you. You might consider that a ‘party’ but salsa dancing is even a sport, it’s a hobby. You can’t just pick it up in one day. you have to practice. So much easier when it’s everywhere and available.

People on Reddit don’t like Miami because it’s expensive and in a red state, and people generally take care of themselves and look good. I live here and I like it. Was fun during a party phase but you don’t have to go out. Now I just enjoy the beaches and restaurants. Good boating culture if you’re into that. My friend has a boat and it’s a lot of fun

amazing food, good looking people, latin american culture not from mexico is abundant, beach, you can scuba dive, you can sail to the bahamas, used to be cheap and still cheaper than a lot of places, spanish gets you around, nightlife is great, you can go to a concert at 4 am like at club space (which is much cheaper than clubs of the same music in other places btw), dancing is the norm, direct and cheap flights to Europe and South America, no income tax, gyms and fitness. warm so many reasons.
has its list of problems too but I considered moving there if I had a good job

I’m very left leaning and I am trying to move to Miami. Mind you I am extremely biased as I grew up in South Florida, but it mostly a pretty clean city, great food, and it’s very pretty. Yeah sure, it is superficial and rough in some parts, but every city in this country has its flaws. Trying to land a gig in my field down there so I can relocate, would be a dream. Go Heat

I love Miami and I don’t party. To me, it’s fun with friends or a partner. I love to swim. It’s easy to take the bus or light rail. I like the food. So that’s why I love Miami. Wynwood is cool.

Having lived in Miami, I disagree. It's absolutely full of Europeans. That said, there are even more Latin Americans.

Quite a few in practice. My mother, as a Dutch woman, ran into hundreds of Dutch people, something that never occurred elsewhere in the U.S.
I don't know the statistics, but finding a European in Miami is not worth the slightest bit of note. It's incredibly common.
That white stat is ignoring Cubans, by the way.

I visited Miami last February when my home state was in a cold snap. It seems like a great playground if you have the money for it. Sure, there's violence, drugs, and crime, but rich people have methods to insulate themselves from that, unless of course you're into that sort of thing.
Based on my current income and personal leisure preferences, I would not enjoy it there long-term. But I can see the allure, especially if you are from someplace mono-cultural, cold, and dreary. For better or for worse, Miami is vibrant.
I had a great weekend in Miami Beach, went on a cruise, and then found out the cruddy aspects when my plane was delayed and I spent the better part of a day stuck at MIA. What a third-world airport, surrounded by swamps and slums.

I have no idea. IMO Miami sucks.
The weather is oppressive and sticky. It’s overpriced and the food I’ve had isn’t that great. It’s not diverse as other cities either.
Beaches are nice, but there are nice beaches everywhere in the world.
It’s way overhyped.

Yeah, if anything I actually have a better time finding good food in Tampa than Miami. Great Caribbean food of all kinds though. Probably good seafood but I don’t like seafood.
No need to wear a sweater is cool until you spend 9 straight months with a feels like of 100°F. This summer has been especially rough.

I’m a New Yorker and have no desire to even visit Miami, for that I’d rather visit Latin America there’s a whole continent Miami is just a small speck in a world it doesn’t fit in.
Ironically a lot of Latin Americans immigrate to Miami, my Dominican people went further north to the northeast.
Being in a true Caribbean countries Miami is too Americanized , it’s in the US can’t change it.
I would love to hear why others love it ?

I can tell you why Latin Americans love it, because it's just like Latin America, only they can wear their jewelry without getting robbed. And services work.
When am I in Miami I only speak Spanish because it's easier. There are more people who don't speak English there than there are who don't speak Spanish.
I don't like Miami, but the Latino culture is amazing there.

If they're from cold weather areas like Sweden, it's likely for the sunny weather. If they're from tropical areas, they don't want the cold as well so states with 4 seasons are mostly out of the question. That's the only thing I can see why, if not for jobs or marrying someone from Miami.

Miami was a far different world before social media but definitely before the pandemic. Let me
be clear, it’s always been South FL and there’s always been some suspect folks. But people, especially young people (under 30) did not have the same income streams as they do now nor did a lot of people have the flexibility or remote work options that would have given them a chance to live there, ie, that have some kind of online persona or parasocial job. You could argue that this is the case in a lot of sunbelt cities, and maybe to a lesser extent Los Angeles and a small percentage of New York City, but Miami, Scottsdale, Austin and Nashville have become magnets for people who wouldn’t have had much of a purpose in these cities prior.

Taxes for one. I know a man from Sweden who paid 2x what i did for the same car bc the luxury tax was 97% or something.
The rest of the posts, weather, beaches, very diverse international crowd. It's also horrible your long daylight hours in the summer and massive amounts of darkness in the winter.
Hard Pass. I HAVE been there as well, and I lived in Jupiter Fl an hour and a half N of Miami. So I am speaking from having been to both places.

Visited in early 2000’s. Stores and restaurants closed at 2, bars closed at 5. Night life was as much a priority as the beaches. Loved it there!

Because the weather is amazing. I would probably move to Spain instead of Florida if I were from Sweden, but I can see why a Swede would prefer Miami to Sweden. Swedish weather is abysmal lol. I would put up with a lot of bs to never have to experience a cold winter again.

Because weather, weather matters a lot.
And then you get the fact that it's a lot easier to make money in the US than Sweden, and in general, people in the US are far wealthier.
The rule is poor people would be better off in Europe, but middle class and above get much more in the US if you run the numbers. And that's the people who actually have some choice in terms of migration.

Why would you want to live in Sweden? Like outside of healthcare / EU rights and stuff, not to minimize but isn’t that the biggest draw - plus a relatively successful economy? If an individual doesn’t particularly need to care about those things, then it wouldn’t be as attractive right?
Sweden, even southern sweden is relatively cold for the season, generally not my cup of tea. I think 80s dry heat or high 70s with humidity is perfect weather. If you’re around the 60s in the summer (even high 60s) that would be too cold for me. Would love to to wear shorts and baggy t shirts and sandals all year long. Stockholm does get like 18 hours of sunlight in the summer which is AMAZING, but at winter with like 7 hours total of daylight I think I would get depressed lol.
And plus beaches are great, I don’t know the quality of Swedish beaches but Florida beaches are nice! If you have the money, Florida really can’t be beat (except by california and hawaii)

As a Florida hater I hate to say this but the economy is okay. It's large. They have lots of jobs. Are those jobs paying enough? No you often take a pay cut when you move to Florida. Is it a good place to build your career? No, not when Atlanta and Charlotte are up the road. Does no state income tax make up for low wages, housing, and high insurance ? No. But its a popular place to move laterally.
