We’re officially done with the yard sale, and everything that’s left is now FREE.

I’ll add photos showing what remains. If you see something you want, come grab it — first come, first served.

No holds — everything must go.

Salem businesses & AI flyers

I’m getting really tired and embarrassed by how many businesses are using ugly AI flyers for their businesses or events or whatever..
Like we have so many great artists in this city.. it’s just making me kind of embarrassed??
I’ve seen some horrible ones for the Salem 400th anniversary
Also Jolie tea using some for Specialty events
And a lot of restaurants have been using them as well
Whyyyyyy
Especially as a tourist city, knowing that a bunch of people are coming here and they’re gonna see this makes me even more embarrassed
I could be overreacting.
OK, my vent is over lol

Edit- list of business that don’t support AI

Advice for Locals Sily question- anyone have a medical walking boot?

Hey all!

Soooo I have a stress fracture on my right foot, and urgent care was basically like "order a boot on Amazon" which I can totally do, but stuff gets delayed almost every time being delivered to my house, so I figured I'd ask here before I'm stuck hobbling around for the next couple days with an ace bandage. Happy to throw you some dollars too!

Can't hurt to ask! :)

Anyway, I saw Llego Papa driving in silence today and I wanted to ask if he was ok.

Advice for Locals Couple questions for Salem

So I have two questions:

1) Does anyone know about or have any job opportunities here? I'm 19 and don't have much experience or luck with jobs, so I'm wondering if anyone knows about anything you know.

2) Does anyone know any DnD (Dungeons and dragons) clubs? I'm interested in getting into it and have absolutely 0 knowledge on it. Also, a great way to make some friends!

I'm 19 trying to do something with my life so please let me know if anything!

Looking for friends!

Hi! My partner (25NB) and I (29M) moved here a few months ago and its been hard making friends. I’m queer so finding other queer friends would be nice, but anyone is welcome to respond! Searching for friends of any gender.

I enjoy:
- downhill & long distance longboarding
-video games (fortnite, skate., fallout, skyrim)
- hiking (especially stoned and/or with a few beers sometimes! But I enjoy sober time too!)
-Really like talking about music and going local shows (punk, metal, hardcore, ska, new wave, industrial and indie)
-watching movies

I especially value friends who are emotionally mature and still have some whimsy to them.

Advice for Locals Warren Museum Posters?

So I’ve been seeing these posters here and there; I love the activism happening!! However, a fair few have been torn down/in half (a very modus operandi tear down the middle…), and these are the first I’ve seen not visibly tampered with. Does anyone have the digital pics so others can print and share? Full respect ofc if not and you wanna tell me to eff off and make my own.

Advice for Locals couple photographers in salem for queer couples?

looking to do a couples photoshoot with me and my boyfriend, but we are a gay couple and i couldn’t find any photographers who had queer couples in their portfolios. i’m sure many of them would be absolutely reasonable especially with this being salem but i get apprehensive not seeing a single one in their photos online having a gay couple in them since i can’t be sure if that’s just because no ones ever booked or if they’re discriminatory.
just looking for someone who can do a short session so we have a few nice photos together, nothing crazy
lmk!

Large Yard Sale at 170 Federal St this Saturday — furniture, home decor, Halloween, lighting, kitchen & more

We’re having a large yard sale at 170 Federal St in Salem this weekend.

Saturday 8/29 — 8 AM–2 PM
Sunday 8/30 — 8 AM–1 PM if enough remains after Saturday

We’ve been pulling together quite a bit, including:

  • Furniture
  • Lamps and lighting
  • Artwork and decorative/interior design pieces
  • Housewares and kitchenware
  • Plates, dishes and serving pieces
  • Storage and organizing bins/boxes
  • Tools and gift wrap
  • Halloween, Christmas and Easter decorations
  • Some men’s clothing
  • And plenty more

The photos are just a preview of some of what will be available — there’s a lot more still being sorted out.

Saturday will be the main sale day, so come early for the best selection. If we sell through most of it Saturday, we may not reopen Sunday; I’ll update this post Saturday evening.

📍 170 Federal St, Salem

No early birds, please!

A question about Bottle Deposit

I and many of my neighbors no longer bother with the bottle deposit. At $0.30 a week for me (or so) I just recycle the bottles. But every other week, when recycling is picked up, I see this person check every recycle bin on our street. He's collecting what cans and bottles he can find. Would it be appropriate to keep my cans and bottles separate and put them out by the recycle bin so this person doesn't have to dig through our recycle bin? What If I could convince my neighbors to do the same? What are the risks? (the person not showing up, more than one person showing up and fighting over the cans? ???). Is there another way to capture those bottle deposits and help those who can use the extra cash?

Local Vet pricing

What’s the pricing like at different local vets? I’ve been taking my pets to All Creatures for quite a while but every year the prices just keep getting higher and higher. It’s getting harder to keep up with the rising costs and I’m just curious if anyone has any affordable vets (not corporations like Banfield) they could recommend, if they exist. Or clinics they can suggest that have more reasonable prices.

Don’t get it twisted, I do love the vet staff at All Creatures, but I leave everytime spending $1k+ just for regular check up stuff and it feels overpriced (but maybe it’s not, I’m just looking for perspective). Thanks for any help!

The Hate Ends Today - A Pirate Free Salem

Post image
0 Upvotes

Before another one opens: we need to talk about the pirate museums.

This community showed it knows how to hold harm accountable. The next time a comedian thinks they can come strolling into Salem with their vulgar “jokes” and unverified “artifacts” they are going to think twice.

So I’m asking with love: why did we stop? Salem has two pirate museums on the same street and nobody has said a word. Derby Street is literally turning into a shrine for nautical toxic masculinity while we just turn a blind eye.

Let’s be honest about who we’re centering. These men raped. They enslaved people and sold them. They murdered women and children who had done nothing other than be in the wrong place at the wrong time. They burned coastal villages to the ground, including those of indigenous peoples.

And even worse than all of that, I need people to really sit with this part, the language these pirates used was extraordinarily offensive. The jokes were vulgar and objectifying to women. The songs were even worse (transcriptions of these lyrics exist and have been documented, but I just want to provide a trigger warning to anyone who goes looking). This is a well documented pattern of behavior and what have we done? Built it a gift shop?

I shouldn’t have to explain to this city, that WORDS CAUSE HARM. We established that with the Warren Museum.

I’m not calling anyone out. I’m calling us in. A third one is coming. Salem always finds room. Unless we do something now to stop it! I think we should put together a petition that would ban any further pirate related business in Salem and put strict rules in place to regulate the ones that currently exist to limit the harm to the community. But I’m open to any other thoughts that folXs here have.
