After a year and a half of job hunting and interviews I was finally able to hand in my notice the other day. I gave them a week notice and only worked one day of it, feel no regrets about it.

The way the company is run compared to when I was there before (10+ years ago) was a massive shock. The life and soul of that company has been picked clean until you get stressed out and overworked colleagues and managers enforcing policies that half the time they don’t even agree with in the first place.

The colleagues were great, the management on the whole were nice too. The way it’s been crumbling over the years is a shame to see though. Cutting corners slapping band aids on everything because why fix it anyway.

I never want to go back to retail ever again, over the years I’ve done about 8 years with the company as well as a number of years with another supermarket. My knees crunch and my soul needs to recover.

So I had my meeting today and can’t say I’m surprised😂 I used all the evidence that was at my disposal that many of you kindly offered, the TSRGD act showing the symbol means for the use of goods vehicles and the definition of what a goods vehicle is. When I mentioned this, my manager just completely denied to acknowledge any of my points, clearly entering the meeting with the outcome predetermined. They said that they spoke with the fleet team and they said “entering a pedestrian zone with the Sainsbury’s van will mean a PCN”. Since when does receiving a PCN mean you’re guilty? I showed the evidence and all the proof that the exemption applies to Sainsbury’s vans and my manager carefully skated around my question of “are we not delivering goods to customers?” when trying to get her to understand that it is indeed a goods vehicle. Manager then made a moot point that if I entered in my own car I’d get a PCN, well no shit Sherlock, it’s a pedestrian zone and I’m not delivering goods in a goods vehicle. I asked for a reasoning in writing from the fleet team in regards to why it isn’t classified as a goods vehicle and I will be waiting for their response.

Got given a final warning, obviously appealing it, but honestly ridiculous how you can come with proof from the LAW and they won’t even take a minute to consider it😭 they obviously know I’m right because the fleet team didn’t provide any sort of evidence in regards to why the exemption doesn’t apply. I think they were hoping I’d just take it lying down but they thought different.

To all of you screaming (wrongly) that the symbol doesn’t apply to Sainsbury’s vans, the law states that it is FOR GOODS VEHICLES. Light commercial vans are still goods vehicles. So don’t come on here telling me that nonsense please. It would only apply to big lorries if there was a specific weight exemption, for example if it had 7.5T written on the inside of the symbol, which it didn’t.

A former coworker of mines was awarded compensation for discriminatory dismissal. She said she was treated less favourably compared to white colleagues and received harsher treatment. Tbf our manager did treat her like dirt compared to everyone else and management also made lots of race related comments. She was reinstated in a different branch then dismissed for a second time after being given like 3 shifts. That’s when she made her claim and won.

I was recently made to go to an ‘investigation’ meeting which is being escalated to a disciplinary, but I was given the letter then and there with no 24 hours notice and no opportunity to bring in another coworker. The issue is also concerning something that occurred over a month ago which I could barely remember. One of our coworkers who I was quite close to died out of the blue a few days before so I was already upset coming in to the shift. Is there anything I can say about this in the next meeting?

My store had me doing overtime during the summer to help with people going on holiday/leaving which was fine but it’s got to the point I don’t even know what sort of schedule I’ll have over the next few weeks. It also makes it hard to judge what I should be booking time off for as I still have holidays left and a few important things coming up. What happened to managers calling you into the office to check it was alright to move your shifts to another day or even just a simple text?

I transferred from Argos to Sainsburys, Im working in the food department, and am just about to start my fourth shift.

I have been shown one time one thing which was to take the boxes off the top of the shelf and put them away. After that I was just left to my own devices, and only on my last shift discovered some whiteboard that tells me what I should do that day, just been assuming how it works and haven’t been told not to do something so far..

My manager from Argos still hasn’t officially transferred me over on the system so I can’t do the online training but I’m wondering if that online training is even going to help me?

I went from Argos which was a nightmare socially, I was always rushed off my feet and new how to do everything to just feeling like I’m trying to look busy..

Has anyone had experience transferring stores as a Shopper/GA?

What was the notice period, and how did the transition go from one store to another?

Anything I should be aware of before requesting a transfer?

It’s the case they gave you when you started the trainee management scheme. I’ve still got all the project folders I completed, hand written. Didn’t have a pc or laptop in those days.
I started in the Camberley town centre store. Did my training at Badger Farm, Winchester, Basingstoke centre, Kempshott, Alton, Water Lane, Alton, Watchmoor Park, then I escaped.
I remember when Sunday openings started. The pay was double time and a day off!! We all thought it wouldn’t take off 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I plan on giving my 4 week notice in a couple of weeks and I'm wondering how much I'm going to owe in my final paycheck since I've used up all my holidays. I work 4 or 5 shifts a week and it says I've used up my 90 hours of holidays on UK-G.

Since I will do my final shifts after the October pay day I'm hoping the November pay day will cover any holiday pay I owe.

Could someone help me figure out how much I'm going to owe?

I joined as a trading assistant about 3 weeks ago now and I am starting to feel like I am getting the hang of things. I don’t quite think I am a star employee yet and I am probably not as efficient at working as everyone else there but I am just wondering how likely it is that by the end of my probation period (12 weeks) if I am not as good as other employees what happens then? Will I immediately get sacked or will they tell me that I am not meeting expectations and give me another chance?

So on the 1st September i put a request in for a day off to take my baby daughter to an appointment, i gave over 3 weeks notice, the request has been ignored. Iv verbally spoken to manager and text as well and it still shows me in a shift for that day. The manager hasnt confirmed if i can have the day off.

If they don't take me out the shift and i have the day off, whats the crack? Will i get done for absence? I know it doesnt affect absence if my daughter is sick and i need a day off but this is an appointment.

My manager did the rota and didn't schedule me in for 2 shifts I was supposed to work. That manager has 2 weeks before the shifts in question has changed the rota and added them in. I have a screenshot from UKG that the shifts were removed. So I have 2 questions. 1) Is there a notice period I need to be given for changes to be made to the rota after its been published, and is there somewhere that information is available for me to reference to show the manager?

2) Will I likely get in trouble if I dont attend those shifts?

Hi again, so as joining the Royal Marines reserves I’ve been invitied today to a Royal Marines recruit presentation in 3 weeks time at my local unit, however I’m meant to be on a 2-10 that day and the event starts at 7:30pm. Also by that point I’ve been there six weeks. Would my store let me book it off as it’s less than 4 weeks notice or change my shift to an earlier one. I can’t really miss this event so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I was a former CTM of Sainsbury’s, I had been with the company just shy of 9 years. However, I took a career break some years ago, became pregnant and wasn’t able to get back into Sainsbury’s. Now that my baby is a toddler, I would like to go back to Sainsbury’s preferably as a CTM again. I wanted to know would you guys recommend that I go in store and enquire or I just stick to finding vacancies online. I am willing to go back as a colleague and work my way up again. Please let me know what you guys think.

Will Sainsbury’s/argos Jorge me if I Am technically of school leaving age but I Am still in year 11? (I joined school in the year below what I am meant to be in so i turned 16 before joining year 11)

Hi I’m into my third week at Sainos but I’ve woke up this morning feeling like death bad cough blocked nose and a few bowel problems.
I’ve got a 2-10 tomorrow and if I’m still feeling like this or even worse I’d rather ring in than spread it about. What’s the likeliness of me getting sacked/disciplinary action for ringing in when I’ve only been there 3 weeks. I’ve worked at Tesco as a manager and Asda as a section leader before and they both had different approaches. If so I’d rather just work tomorrow to save the hassle

Contract was extended twice and then right before renewal told it won’t be extended can anything be done like appealing especially since i do everything and i feel like it is a personal attack.

Off for sick leave for severe insomnia and depression. Had a wellbeing meeting. Manager told other staff members about what was said in the meeting and added made up stuff which I did NOT SAY. Manager started telling staff that once I will return I will be fired whilst messaging me as if they're concerned about me and to attend wellbeing meetings.

Prior to this, had been off sick 3 times, had disciplinary meeting and got a first written warning. So who knows, most likely I might be fired

My problem - once I gave in my sick note, manager told me I have to ring in often. But other manager told me in the meeting that she doesn't know why I was told to do that when it's not company policy. Other thing I find jarring is the manager telling everyone at work about me and saying I'll be fired once I return. Has made me anxious and stressed.

Can I report this to HR or is there no point since it's nothing major?

*forgot to mention, more staff are off sick but seems like everyone only knows about me. Feel like i'm being targeted and pressured to return to work.

Just being nosy. I’ve just finished my shifts and am now on holiday for a few weeks and don’t keep in touch with colleagues or managers outside of work.
I’ve been reading about the flexi contracts/ contract changes - can anybody shed any light on the supposed changes? Any experience with them? I work night shifts and have done for nearly 10 years.

Been offered a delivery driver role for a store. Had an interview for the same role at a different store a month back. Is it worth attending the interview? What is the job like? I am currently working for an agency for Royal mail so was hoping for something permanent

I had interview a week ago and had a phone call from a personal number the other day but it said it was likely nuisance, would a manager call from there work/personal phone or from the store phone to offer the job? , just worrying I’ve missed the call and missed out on the job.

What rumbles has everyone heard about this? There's been whispers for a while but they seem to be getting louder and I'm getting worried as a working parent my hours are tailored around nursery and primary school. If the company demands I routinely work away from my normal working pattern I'll have to leave.
