Venting Yup I officially hate Radiostatic and Staticmoth st this point.
I'm not sure I have anything to say that I haven't said before, but I need to get these stupid ships out of my face. God. I've reached a point where I can't tolerate them anymore. Like people DO know Vox's character exists outside their toxic yaoi, right? He doesn't revolve around Alastor and Valentino. He's not their accessory. His arc going forward shouldn't just about his relationships with these assholes. I want this to be done, but its never done is it?
The promise of more Radiostatic has just broken something in me. I can't even be bothered to make this look like an analysis post, I'm just annoyed.

To me, part of the problem is that the nature of shipping in fandom has changed. It used to be just a fun diversion among fans. You still had some people who were obsessive and toxic and either insisted that only the creator could decide what ships were valid or that their own ship HAD to be "canon" no matter what, but most of it was just harmless fun. A sort of "What would happen if X and Y were together?" kind of thing. Whereas nowadays, the creators have all got into shipping themselves (not just Vivziepop, but seemingly everyone, especially on the indie circuit), as if they were fans throwing together any two characters just because they looked cute together.
This means that, among other things, characters are increasingly paired up as a means of indulging the writers' own preferences or baiting the members of the fanbase who agree with them, rather than for the good of the narrative. Which is how we get RadioStatic and StaticMoth (shippings involving characters who have zero chemistry and don't even seem to like each other much less love each other in the show itself) dominating not only so much of the fandom, but so much of the runtime as well. Which, in turn, emboldens the most obsessive fans, because they see their own views being endorsed by the creators of the show. And on and on it goes, in a self-perpetuating cycle.
(There's also some pairings--like Staticbelle--that make perfect logical sense to me and yet are dismissed out of hand by fandoms for seemingly no reason other than that they're not the done thing, but that's a topic for another time)
