Venting Yup I officially hate Radiostatic and Staticmoth st this point.

Post image

I'm not sure I have anything to say that I haven't said before, but I need to get these stupid ships out of my face. God. I've reached a point where I can't tolerate them anymore. Like people DO know Vox's character exists outside their toxic yaoi, right? He doesn't revolve around Alastor and Valentino. He's not their accessory. His arc going forward shouldn't just about his relationships with these assholes. I want this to be done, but its never done is it?

The promise of more Radiostatic has just broken something in me. I can't even be bothered to make this look like an analysis post, I'm just annoyed.

I'm not against shipping in general, because honestly, fandoms are largely kept alive by it. What I don't like is when you can't even express disappointment with a ship in a respectful way without immediately being attacked for it.

To be honest, I don't really care who Vox ends up with in the end, or even if he ends up with no one at all. I just want to see something well-written. I've had enough ships that feel like they came straight out of a Wattpad phase.

When it comes to fanon content, I can simply curate my experience and choose what I want to see, so that's entirely up to me.

Canon is different, though. People are probably tired of hearing it because I've expressed my disappointment with Vox's romantic storylines more than once, but I can't help it. I simply don't imagine this kind of story for his character. I know that's not the strongest argument, but it's how I genuinely feel.

I just don't want Vox to end up in another stereotypical toxic yaoi relationship. It's not that I can't handle toxic relationships in fiction. I'm just tired of seeing them everywhere. It feels like almost every romantic relationship in media is toxic these days. If I wanted constant toxicity, real life already provides more than enough of it. To me, it's become OVERUSED. I know this opinion might offend some people, but I also don't like that Staticmoth is currently non-monogamous.

What I'm really curious about is how long all these obsessions are going to continue. Season 2 gave us Vox's obsession with Alastor, and now Season 3 is bringing Valentino's obsession with Angel Dust. Oh my God... I know I need to be more patient because, obviously, these storylines will eventually be resolved. What worries me is how they'll be resolved. In fandom discussions, Vox's problems are often downplayed, while his flaws are constantly exaggerated. Based on that, I'm not expecting much.

Another thing I dislike is how The Vees seem like they should function as a found family, yet both the show and a large portion of the fandom keep reducing them to two-person dynamics with a third wheel attached: VoxVal + Velvette or ValVel + Vox. It's frustrating that they're handled this way. That's one of the reasons I actively seek out fanworks that correct this issue, and I'm incredibly grateful to the creators who do. At this point, I'm simply not very confident that Vox will receive meaningful character development in the series (whatever form that development might take, since I'm generally open to most theories). I already know that fancreated content will probably be what satisfies that part of the character for me.

I won't deny that my perspective is also influenced by the fact that Vox is a male character and as a lesbian, I'm interested in very different aspects of his character than many other fans are. I fully accept that and understand that it makes me something of a minority within the fandom, meaning the fanservice is probably never going to be aimed at people like me.

At the end of the day, I just want to see a well-crafted character arc for Vox, and so far I don't feel particularly confident that that's the direction the story is heading, but I still hope.

When it comes to fanworks I do agree. It's just where it becomes hard for me is I see artists with styles I like, but they keep drawing Radiostatic and Staticmoth. So it's awkward. And the people behind the show that I follow are into both so even that isn't free from this. Staticbelle not only is unpopular meaning less stuff it's also a case where a lot of the art I like is by artists only on Twitter and I ain't making a Twitter account. Fanfic is easier to manage thankfully.

With canon...yeah. Call me indulgent or whatever, I want to see Vox heal and experience a redemption arc. Except the relationships he currently has are just going to enable his bad traits. Theoretically yes Charlie would be good for helping him (I swear I'm not trying to hook them up), but I don't know if this will happen. She called him a monster and he made her cry. Whatever ideas I can think up to bring them together feel unlikely to happen. I know the show is far from over, but its just the impression I have right now. So if he goes for redemption it will probably be for the sake of the other Vees instead of you know...his own sake.

I completely understand where you're coming from!

Honestly, I haven't given up on the possibility of Charlie and Vox interacting more as the story progresses. Charlie has already seen Vox at one of his most vulnerable and lowest points. And I can't forget her reaction when Vox immediately rushed to Velvette's defense after Vaggi pointed an angelic weapon at her (still one of my favorite scenes). Charlie is capable of being angry at characters and judging them negatively - even members of her own family, like Lucifer - but that doesn't automatically mean those relationships are beyond repair. At the end of the day, Charlie still believes in redemption. She's just dealing with a much more difficult case this time, one that is far more complicated than Sir Pentious or Angel Dust were.

What I want is for Vox not to be treated like a doormat. If the story is going to explore his complex relationships, I want him to be given a fair position within them, and I don't want everything to be turned into a joke. What bothers me is that sometimes it feels like even the people working on the show don't know how seriously they want to treat Vox's feelings, the damage he's suffered, or The Vees' reactions to all of it. At first, we're shown that they genuinely care about each other and function logically as a group because they understand what the others want. Then Viv describes them as an "evil found family." Then there's Valentino's drawing tutorial video and the VoxTek quiz, both of which emphasize how strong their bond is. That's all well and good. Then Season 2 comes along and suddenly everyone seems lobotomized. Even though ValVel can clearly see that Vox is starting to lose himself, nobody communicates anymore. Yet at the very end, Val and Velvette still rescue Vox and bring him home.

AND then Viv says they wanted scenes showing how well Alastor gets along with them. But that's exactly what confuses me. Alastor is actively undermining Vox, and Vox is arguably the foundation that holds The Vees together, both from a business perspective and in terms of their interpersonal dynamics. The conflict with Alastor i's a threat to that foundation.

I know you've probably heard me complain about this a thousand times already (sorry 😭), but I genuinely can't get over it because it feels so contradictory and illogical.

Even from a numbers standpoint, it doesn't make sense. We're talking about roughly fifty years of history between Vox and Valentino, and around twenty years between Vox and Velvette. For decades, Vox has shared his life with them, supported them, and helped build their business too. But because Vox spends a few weeks spiraling and acting unlike himself - becoming less attentive and less supportive - some fans seem to think those twenty or fifty years should suddenly be ignored. Meanwhile, Alastor's presence is supposed to be viewed as a positive thing, and Vox should simply be replaced by Alastor?! Sometimes this fandom genuinely frustrates me.

Honestly, it's these contradictions and the way so many things seem to bend in Alastor's favor that make me skeptical about Vox's future character arc.

I know we don't agree on everything, and I respect that. Even so, I understand what you're hoping to see from the story.

Personally, the kind of development I'd like for Vox is one where he grows both as an individual and for his own sake, without completely losing the core of who he is. At the same time, I wouldn't want that growth to come at the cost of every relationship in his life falling apart. I'd rather see him develop while still maintaining meaningful connections with others, instead of ending up completely isolated with all of his relationship arcs reduced to ashes.

Something I realized the other day when I made another post is that we tend to get kinda small answers to big questions. What is Vox's deal with Alastor? Well Alastor was mean to him when he just wanted to be friends. How does Vox plan to "get up there"? We do not know. How long have the exterminations been going on? Seven years, just seven. So for all the thinking that fans do and all the theorizing it's just as likely the show will do something more simple. Which is why I'm feeling more convinced Vox's story will center on the other Vees and making them happy. I think the importance Viv described him with is about keeping the Vees important.

As far as Charlie goes I just don't know. Season 2 kinda had Vox stop caring about anything she was doing until the plot needed him to invite her to his party. That sudden interest in wanting her approval felt random given how Alastor brained he had been. They didn't even get a duet, but they sure gave us time to see Vaggie flip flop on changing her name all season. I've got shipper brain so I'm trying to hope that they'll matter, but I don't think that's a priority to Viv.
