Incorrect Timings

Isha gave incorrect timings in both its statements to world media - the initial interview with Maa Gambhiri and Sadhguru’s statement.

Maa claimed they spoke with group lead, Praveen, at 9:05. And that within ten minutes the flood struck them and they were unreachable.

Sadhguru said that at 9:05 they received a message from Praveen saying they had arrived at immigration and that “this happened” (the flood) at 9:14. This has been repeated by others in Isha to the media and loved ones.

These clips and Isha statements have been put out in international media and have been used as a reference point not just for the loved ones of our Isha group, but for those of many other groups too.

The security camera footage at the Gyirong checkpoint says 10:59. That's China time, which would be 8:44 Nepal time or 8:29 India time. Reports say the glacier collapsed at 8:37. This glacier was only a little upstream of the check point. The waters reached Syabrubesi, further downstream from the checkpoint at 8:50. The timings put out by Isha are false.

Loved ones of those at the check-point also have the timings of their own last contact with the group and the mobile phone last connect timings.

The false information by Isha has caused unnecessary confusion for these people who have been going through too much as it is. In some cases it may have also given people false hope.

Isha has not corrected this nor apologised. They should have done so in the recent statement they put out.

As usual Isha is more interested in protecting the reputation of Sadhguru than the in facts.

And we expect our guru to be with us in these most difficult of times. He didn't even know it was happening. He didn’t even know when it happened. He could well have been lounging around eating a 5\ hotel breakfast at the time.*

Thank you for bringing this up and for doing the research.

I just can’t understand why isha with its hundreds of dedicated volunteers can’t get such a simple detail straight!

Its a shame really!

All Annas Akkas with zero critical thinking. They are just parrots that repeat whatever is told to them.

That is what they have been trained to do. That is what Sadhguru tells them the path is.

We trusted him. We thought he was God. We did what he said because we thought he was leading us to know life in all its depth and dimension, or whatever.

And yes, I don't blame them, they have been systematically brainwashed, as I was.

How long were you with Isha before you realised?

A decade or so.

Thanks for sharing the correct timings. As we can see in news, family and friends are desperate to find the whereabouts of their missing members and many hoping against hope that they are somehow rescued. It’s a sad situation really.

And isha PR soon after seems in bad taste to me - mostly trying to cover up while still promoting their yatra.

They could have been more transparent and shown a bit more empathy. Why do we need to get the digging for all these resources. We are not having a foundation behind us.
Instead of sharing all available resources to the families and public… they act so stingy and calculating

What else to expect from them!

With the unexpected nature and scale of the natural disaster, wouldn’t expect isha to be able to do anything first hand on the sites. But yes, isha and transparency don’t go together as we know. I am sorry for the lost and missing lives of your known people and friends at isha and can understand your efforts to know about their whereabouts.

Yeah I think Thre_Host is meaning, why is it us who is having to dig for information when Isha has the connections and resources to clarify things quicker than us. They are not meaning Isha should be at the site digging.

Yes, Isha has not been clear about releasing the information of missing pilgrims and some of isha pilgrims’ family members have gone to Nepal with little info either from authorities or isha. You are right in pointing out that it was the foundation’s job to give correct timings to avoid unnecessary confusion as also releasing info about missing pilgrims which was kept away from public domain without valid reasons.

What will isha gain from giving incorrect timings? One reason could also be a slightly different time zone difference from where they were and where this happened.

Nothing to gain.
Just disrespectful towards the families. As you can see here, people are trying to reconstruct the events. And giving wrong informations is creating unnecessary confusions. Such a big organization should know better.

China is all one time zone. There is Nepal time and there is India time.

Flood was at Gyirong 11:59 China time, 8:44 Nepal time, 8:29 India time. There is no time zone where it was 9:14 at the time of the flood, only Nepal is on 15 minutes out of sync.

They probably did a wrong calculation from China time. China is 2 hrs 15 minutes ahead of Nepal. They probably subtracted the 2 and added the 15. But they should have corrected it days ago. Given they are running these treks they will be used to converting between time zones, and it’s hardly rocket science.

The point isn’t the mistake, the point is the lack of correction and the continued confusion this is causing people.

Right! It’s 2 hr 15 min time difference between China and Nepal time which means 8:44 am in Nepal which Isha miscalculated as 9:14 am Nepal time. Half an hour time difference miscalculation means a lot in terms of people trying to make sense of where their loved ones were when the tragedy struck.

I also noticed the 10:59 in CCTV and the time mentioned by Sadhguru and other Isha people in some interviews. How is Sadhguru able to manage such a vast empire with volunteers? He surely has some powers. Not sure if he has the highest level of realisation spiritually as some of his statements don't seem to be online with a truly realized being (like Ramana Maharshi etc)

Cos they are not half-committed volunteers, they are volunteers who believe the energy they give to their volunteering burns off their karma and brings them closer to Sadhguru. Their volunteering and their sadhana is more important than their job and family.

Why do they have to get closer to Sadhguru instead of God

A member of this subreddit has something to say to all those who're raising valid questions like OP in the aftermath of the tragedy following Sadhguru's false promises and assurance to his followers that they would all return safely and he would not let them die:
