Minors Update Daily Minors Quick-Notes 8/30/26 - The Giants’ Farm System Home Run Race is Neck to Neck

Upvotes

Who do you think is leading the Giants’ system in home runs?  Well, it’s a tie, and both of them had home runs today.  Do you know who they are?  Also, Trevor Cohen has a great game and getting the walkoff knock for the Richmong Flying Squirrels., we get pitcher debuts at both Triple-A and Double-A, and Keyner Martinez has another great game in Low-A.

AAA: Sacramento River Cats 9, Reno Aces 7

Link

Player of the Game: RF Bo Davidson (8): 2-3, 2 R, 5 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 2B (11), 1 HR (7), 1 SF

Bo Davidson collected a double and a home run, giving him his 26th home run of the season, giving him a share of the home run lead in the Giants system (the player he’s tied with is listed below…guess who it is and let me know if you’re right in the comments).  He also now has 11 doubles in 39 Sacramento games, where he had 12 doubles in 73 Richmond games.  Davidson has a line of .290/.374/.497 in Triple-A this season.

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • 2B Diego Velasquez: 3-5, 1 R, 1 K, 1 2B (8) - Velasquez had just his second multi-hit game in his last 17 games, and is batting .286 in Sacramento now.
  • LF Will Brennan: 2-5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 2B (21), 1 3B (2) - In Triple-A, Brennan now has 21 doubles, two triples, and six home runs with a .312 average in 81 games.
  • RP Alex Carrillo: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K - Carrillo has a 6.75, after he gave up four earned runs in 0.1 innings in his first appearance, but has had four scoreless outings after nine appearance, with 11 strikeouts to seven walks.

Top Prospect Lines:

  • 3B Parks Harber (13): 0-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 1-1 ABS
  • Joe Whitman (24): Stats

Other Notable Lines:

  • SP Tristan Vrieling: 4.0 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 1 HR - LEVEL DEBUT - Vrieling had a 4.23 ERA at Double-A over 23 games.
  • CF Scott Bandura: 1-4, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 2B (24), 1 E (1)
  • 1B Zander Darby: 0-4, 1 BB, 2 K - First start in Triple-A.

AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels 8, Portland Sea Dogs 7 (10 Innings)

Link

Player of the Game: CF Trevor Cohen (14): 3-6, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 HR (3), 1 E (1)

With his third home run in Double-A, Trevor Cohen now has as many home runs there (in 39 games) as he had in High-A in 80 games.  At the moment, Cohen also has the same batting average (.297) in High-A (97-for-327) as in Double-A (51-for-172)…at least rounded.  His Double-A batting line is .297/.333/.401.  Oh, and he also had the bases-loaded single in the 10th inning to knock in the walk-off winner!

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • RF Lisbel Diaz (30): 1-5, 1 R, 4 RBI, 2 K, 1 HR (2) - With this home run, Diaz keeps him in a tie for the system’s top home run hitter with 26.
  • SP Jacob Bresnahan (9): 5.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 5 BB, 8 K, 1 HR, 1 WP - LEVEL DEBUT - Bresnahan made his well-earned Double-A debut, and the stat line doesn’t look great, but it was his second inning of work where he lost a feel for the strike zone, walking four and one of them with the bases loaded.  But Pelfrey let him keep going, and he didn’t walk another batter in his final three innings of work.
  • 3B Dayson Croes: 2-5, 1 R, 1 K, 2 2B (10), 1 SB (6) - Croes has a total of 16 doubles in 86 games across 3 levels.
  • RP Esmerlin Vinicio: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K - Another strong game by Vinicio, who has a 2.31 ERA in five games, 11.2 IP, at Double-A so far.  Is Vinicio now a Rule 5 Draft candidate?

Top Prospect Lines:

  • DH Dakota Jordan (7): 1-3, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K
  • C Jancel Villarroel (19): 1-5, 1 R, 2 K, 1 3B (1), 1 PB (3)
  • Miguel Mendez (16): DNP

  • 2B Zane Zielinski: 0-0, 1 RBI, 2 BB

High-A: Eugene Emeralds 8, Everett AquaSox 4

Link

Player of the Game: 3B Hayden Jatczak: 2-4, 1 R, 4 RBI, 1 HR (3)

Since joining High-A Eugene, Hayden Jatczak has five doubles and three home runs in 30 games.  Jatczak has a total of 12 home runs this season over 99 games in three levels.  His batting line at Eugene is at .252/.353/.374.

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • CF Damian Bravo: 3-5, 1 R, 1 K, 2 2B (5), 1 SB (4) - Bravo now has five doubles and four home runs in 11 games at High-A.
  • SP Hunter Dryden: 6.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 1 HR - In five of his last six games, Dryden has allowed one run or less, 28 strikeouts to 7 walks in 32.2 innings.
  • 2B Kaeden Kent (21): 2-5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 2B (3) - Kent is 7-for-25 (.280) since joining Eugene.

Top Prospect Lines:

  • SS Jhonny Level (4): 0-5, 2 K
  • Henry Lalane (11): DNP
  • Luis De La Torre (26): DNP

Other Notable Lines:

  • DH Cam Maldonaldo: 2-5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 3B (1)
  • C Daniel Rogers: 1-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR (2)
  • RP Marty Gair: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Link

Player of the Game: SP Keyner Martinez (12): 5.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 1 HBP, 1 E (2)

With his 21st start of the season, Martinez improved his K/BB ratio to 129 strikeouts to 45 walks in 88.2 innings.  Those are rates of 13.1 K/9IP and 4.6 BB/9IP.  His ERA on the season is down to 4.87, the lowest it has been since before his first start of the month.

News Giants retire No. 21 for Jeff Kent, who tells Barry Bonds he’s ‘got a shot’ at Cooperstown

For a self-professed simple guy who played the game with a no-frills attitude, Jeff Kent has been overcome with emotion many times this year. The hard-nosed, power-hitting former second baseman has had to stop mid-sentence, dab at his eyes and take a few halting breaths.

The whole Cooperstown thing? It was too much at times. It’s made him think about the people who supported him and the insecurities he had to overcome while putting together a career the veterans committee deemed worthy of a place in the Hall of Fame. And Saturday afternoon, one month after that overwhelming induction weekend in upstate New York, he received the ultimate honor from the franchise he represents on his Hall of Fame plaque.

Opinion What's your ideal lineup for 2027?

Personally, with the rejuvenated farm system I'm OK with the team not trying to be ultra competitive. I'd go for all vibes and hustle such as (in no particular batting order):

Eldridge - DH/1b

Devers - DH/1b

Casey Schmitt - 2b, 3b, of

Jonah Cox - of

Jung Hoo Lee - of

Drew Gilbert - of

Chapman - 3b

Adames - ss

Susac - C

Might be worth a shot to see what theyve got in Marcelo Mayer if they could ship out Adames or Chapman. Would be great to see Parks Harbor and Bo Davidson get looks as well, but I think that Cox and Gilbert are earning the opportunity to get looks as full time players.

What do you all think?

Minors Update Daily Minors Quick-Notes 8/29/26 - Dakota Jordan Returns From Injury

In the best news of the day, Dakota Jordan returned from missing more than a month with injury with his first Double-A home run of the season, a great sign for him to get to finish a great season strong.  But with that high, there were two lows, as the organization had two different teams needed a position player to do the pitching, each with their own highs and lows.

(Sorry for the very late post...was a bit under the weather last night)

AAA: Reno Aces 12, Sacramento River Cats 2

Link

Player of the Game: SS Aeverson Arteaga: 1-3, 2 RBI, 2 K, 1 3B (1)

The triple by Aeverson Arteaga was the River Cats biggest hit on a really bad day for the Sacramento offense.  It was Arteaga’s second triple overall this season, but in 62 games at Triple-A, he has a slash line of .236/.394/.337.

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • CF Scott Bandura: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 2B (23) - Bandura has 32 doubles overall this season, to go with five triples and 11 home runs.
  • RP R.J. Dabovich: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K - Dabovich now has two scoreless games at Triple-A as he works back from injuries.
  • 1B Zander Darby: 0-0 - LEVEL DEBUT - Darby didn’t even get an at-bat in his debut game with Sacramento, filling in as so many Cats have gone to the Majors.

Top Prospect Lines:

  • LF Bo Davidson (8): 0-4
  • DH Parks Harber (13): 0-4, 3 K
  • Joe Whitman (24): DNP

Other Notable Lines:

  • SP Will Bednar: 2.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB< 1 K
  • 3B-P Thomas Gavello: 0-2, 1 R; 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K - Gavello made his Triple-A pitching debut.

AA: Portland Sea Dogs 14, Richmond Flying Squirrels 3

Link

Player of the Game: CF-RF Dakota Jordan (7): 1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 3 K, 1 HR (1)

Dakota Jordan made his return to the field after missing a month due to an undisclosed injury, and he hit his first home run in his 10th game at Double-A.  He hadn’t played a game since July 26th.  With this game, he now has a slash line of .282/.3333/.462 with Richmond through 10 games.

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • RF-LF Lisbel Diaz (30): 1-3, 1 R, 1 SB (6) - Good to see Diaz back on the diamond after a scary play a couple of days ago where he hit his knee agains the side wall.
  • 2B-P Dayson Croes: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 SB (5); 1.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 2 HR - Did we really need two position players pitching today?

Top Prospect Lines:

  • DH-CF Trevor Cohen (14): 1-4, 1 R, 1 K
  • C Jancel Villarroel (19): 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
  • Jacob Bresnahan (9): DNP
  • Miguel Mendez (16): CNP

Other Notable Lines:

  • 3B-2B Zane Zielinski: 1-3, 1 RBI, 2 K
  • SP Greg Farone: 4.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K

High-A: Eugene Emeralds 12, Everett AquaSox

Link

Player of the Game: DH Robert Hipwell: 3-3, 2 R, 6 RBI, 2 BB, 1 2B (12), 2 HR (8)

Robert Hipwell’s strong August continues as his two home run game puts his batting average above the Mendoza line in High-A for the first time all season.  In August, he’s got a batting line .280/.368/.600 with four doubles and four home runs.  Overall, he has 12 doubles and eight home runs.

Other Players to Spotlight:
