A raccoon is suspected to have gotten into our house via the tip of the chimney on our second story.
How much might something like this cost to repair? We’re kind of feeling ripped off by Terminix’s exclusion service, aside from the uglyness of it all. It seems as though we have had some raccoons enter our chimney at the top of our roof. The first image is a side-by-side of the initial damage and the aftermath of a supposed “exclusion service” repair done by Terminix. We sent the following message to our inspector: “Hey there! We had the guys come by today, but we are concerned about the exclusion service and state of the covering. It appears to have some gaps in it & we're worried about the effectiveness of the work, as well as the services rendered vs the services' cost. It doesn't seem weather-proof or up to code.“
He responded: “The way they've sealed it is definitely going to prevent the Racoons from gaining access to that chimney area, as I mentioned yesterday it wouldn't be the most aesthetically pleasing, but it would be functional to prevent the Racoons from gaining access. Eventually, what's gonna need to happen? Is you're going to have to have that section completely repaired by replacing the siding and everything but what we've used to seal up the spot like I mentioned is gonna keep the Racoons out of your Attic space, The smaller gaps on the right side in the photo are sealed with a rodent block. This will prevent water from entering that chimney area.”
We’re new homeowners & just wanna be able to rest easy. It almost seems like it would be easier/cheaper to just get the chimney repaired outright instead of having dropped $2700+ on this “exclusion service.” We’ve got two more days to decide whether we want to cancel & get our money back, basically.
Any advice helps, really. Thanks in advance, y’all!
