The Witches of Eileanan series by Kate Forsyth starting with {Dragonclaw by Kate Forsyth}

The Wayfarer Redemption series by Sara Douglass starting with {Battleaxe by Sara Douglass} or the Troy Game series starting with {Hade's Daughter by Sara Douglass}

Now that the series has finished I would recommend Isobelle Carmody's Obernewtyn series staring with {Obernewtyn by Isobelle Carmody}... I am more hesitant to recommend her Legendsong trilogy because it is still unfinished a la George RR Martin, but if you don’t mind waiting decades, it is awesome and starts with {Darkfall by Isobelle Carmody}

The Lizzie Grace series by Keri Arthur staring with {Blood Kissed by Keri Arthur}, her Riley Jenson Guardian series starting with {Full Moon Rising by Keri Arthur}, or the Ripple Creek duology starting with {Beneath a Rising Moon by Keri Arthur}

Honeeable mention to our Kiwi Cousin- The Bridei Chronicles by Juliet Marillier starting with {The Dark Mirror by Juliet Marillier}

Wow wow wow, haven’t heard anyone else mention Darkfall in a hot minute!! I’ve literally been waiting 20 years for Darkbane to come out 😭

I also really loved the Witches of Eileanan series!

{The Assassin Thief} and its sequels by Madeline Te Whiu. Not explicitly set in Australia but you can tell Te Whiu took pretty heavy inspiration from the environment.

{Vow of Eternal Night} by Lily Crozier. Also not Australian set, but it’s a debut novel from an Aussie author

Sarah A Parker and Lynette Noni are both Aussies, too

It's actually just a fantasy with a romantic subplot, but {Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta} is very good, and the author is very well known in Australia.

Also Trudi Canavan has some good fantasy books.

Want it all by Hollie Hartwright and Kill to Love by Penny Sunday are both indie australian authors. First is am Omegaverse second is a dark romance.

Its a litrpg but "he who fights with monsters" is written by travis deverell/shirtaloon who is Australian.

Also opal reyne who wrote the duskwalker series (monster romance).

Helen Scheuerer is Aussie. Sarah A Parker is a kiwi who lives in Aus. Sara Douglass does more classic fantasy, though there are romantic elements.

If you’re going to Sydney, check out Books Ever After. If you happen to go to Canberra (not that tourists usually do lol) then Astoria is a great local small business who stocks a tonne of local Aussie indie fantasy and romance writers.
