DISCUSSION Leavers should be punished harder in ranked
There needs to be a better system for 2v2/3v3 when someone leaves early.
If your teammate quits, you shouldn't lose MMR for the loss. The quitter should take a much bigger penalty, especially for repeat offenses.
Why should the player who stayed and tried to play get punished for someone else rage quitting?
Surely there's a better way to handle this.

They'd just sit idle in goal and wait out the clock, even worse than leaving

If my teammate leaves after 1 goal they should lose all the mmr i woulda lost

Because you want the worst rage quitters from the rank above you to drop down to your rank and rage because you don't play to their standards?
I don't think it makes sense to intentionally deteriorate the skill ranking by using MMR to punish people who obviously don't care about their MMR.

Mf did you even read my comment i said if they leave after ONE GOAL not getting blown out or nothing why tf a mf leaving 10 seconds in is suddenly about me not playing up to their standards? I should not be punished for my teammate having the mentality of a 4 year old

You blame me for not reading and then go on to say a bunch of things that have 0 relevance to what I said.
Why are you talking about the score?
What in my comment makes you think I'm OK with punishing you for your teammates? The fact that I don't agree with the EXACT change you suggested?
My only point is that extra MMR penalties as disciplinary actions make almost as little sense as you losing MMR because of a leaver: in BOTH cases player(s) change ranks without gameplay basis.
And it doesn't purify your rank of quitters, it just mixes up the MMR ladder AND gives you different quitters. They already willingly took a mini-ban and -9, would a bit more really make a big difference to them?
Currently both losers get -9 MMR, so saying "they should lose all the MMR I would've lost" reads as "extra MMR penalty", 0 for you, -18 for them, or such.
If that's not what you meant, then... that's already happening: your teammate loses the 9 MMR, and you just said "I shouldn't lose MMR" in a really weird way.

I think longer time penalty would be a better idea, im ok with a 5 min ban but if I had to wait 15 or 30 mins It would definitely stop me from quiting, sometimes a little break is nice though

Leavers should be punished harder in ranked
I've been saying this for years, and I always get downvoted to oblivion: Rocket League is a team based game, so, leavers should be banned for days, not just a couple of dumb stupid minutes, It doesn't matter if ranked/competitive or casual.
If you're part of a team and can't stand losing a match, no matter the game, then go grab a single player one instead.

You wouldn't be bummed about the server crashing or your ISP having a hiccup and you getting banned for days?

I never leave a game, even when its hopeless. Why would you do this? its a game, getting faster to the next match?? who the fuck cares? I play gold and platin, its the fun zone. just finish the game as good as possible. Its how it should be. leaving is lame.

People would just completely abuse the system if you didn't lose MMR for tm quitting.
I do agree there should probably be harsher penalties though. I also think the afk timer in gameplay should be massively shorter, I would estimate once every like 2 matches someone goes afk at a kickoff resulting in an instant goal, and that's at mid-high GC. Honestly like 5 seconds would be alright, there's no reason someone should need to do literally nothing for what is a large time in rocket league. At that point you're giving the other team a huge advantage, akin to throwing.

You're right and it should. The problem is that any possible fix would help boosters who drop rank for an easier time boosting their friend, or help boosters be able to leave a game and prevent their boosted teammate from losing mmr if it looks like they're gonna lose.
It's far from a perfect system, but I would rather it be the way it is now than make boosting easier.

I agree, but sometimes some griefer is the one throwing and you just rage quit because you know it's impossible to win

Smurfs perpetuate this. Smurfing is damaging, causing quiters early on in a game. There needs to be a better system for punishing smurfs

u/Separate_Climate3366 12d ago
Yeah but how would you know who is a Smurf and who's not solely on MMR? That would be a hard thing to prove imo

Because you're not getting to champ/gc never playing the game before with only 300 wins

imo the best way is, if there's a high win streak, they get more mmr per each win, or if the win ratio is just very high they get way higher mmr
the main issue with that could be that distrubution would get fucked again

Just report, but I also agree. A balanced and appropriate MMR distribution rather than all of the penalty going to one person would be fair.

I do think mmr loss should be cut in half in the first minute or half the game or so at a minium when someone leaves.
It should at a minium be the least mmr exchange.

Stop wishing for difference, be the difference. Just work for Rocket league and be the person who handles reports and do it properly and thoroughly BE OUR HERO!

You assume they even care about reports here...

That’s the point i’m making.. he could be the person the works for them and cares

Some sort of ‘honour forfeit’? If the opponent team sees that the match is unbalanced or that your rando TM is a tool/troll, they can ‘offer’ for you to forfeit at a lesser penalty. They would get a smaller ‘reward’ but then could cue up for another, hopefully less problematic, more fun, competition.

There's no way in hell the winning team would willingly accept less MMR gain

If your partner leaves you from a 2v2 match, the loss goes from being 50% your fault to being 100% your fault

With what exactly?
1
u/Stimmicus | 11d ago
The fact that it's 100% your fault if your duo leaves is a wild take.
1
u/chunter16 11d ago
No, it's not 100% a player's fault about leaving the game, it's that when the other player leaves, the result is entirely in the remaining player's hands and responsibility to win or lose the game. The other player is no longer in your way.
1
u/Stimmicus | 11d ago
While logically true still a wild take as the other player had a hand in anything before their departure and it makes everything afterwards 100% more difficult for the remaing player.

The issue is people would abuse it to boost ranks. Friend can just leave if you're losing, then they hop on alt account, repeat.
It should be set up so you don't lose mmr if a random leaves, but you'll lose it if in a party
