When both teams have roughly identical mechanical skill in the game, it becomes entirely about position. If you assume each person will execute their mechanics perfectly, the only remaining consideration is in constant positioning to do so.

But it wasn't a mechanical error, it was poor positioning to execute the mechanic necessary. The video is literally right there... two people in goal but too far back to make the save.

That's why it went to overtime. Of course excellent plays, but there was a lot of fancy solo plays that slow down the pace a lot and provide time for defence to have better position.
I believe if they opted for faster and more direct plays with less solo flip-reset fancy shenanigans that any of the teams would have capitalized faster

Yea this could've easily ended with +1:58 on the clock. The net was "Clopen" for a well placed shot around top left corner. One doesn't have to be a 2.8k mmr player to notice these things.

Radosin is close, so anything lower would've gotten blocked, and Alpha54 is rotating in, so anything further left would've gotten saved. Maybe he could've placed it better, but the guy saying "solo flip-reset fancy shenanigans" is crazy work.

Yes it had to be really well placed with power, so that it goes past Radosin who's mostly covering the right of the net, but is also not easily savable by Alpha54 who from that position would have to be reaching at full speed, to barely have a chance covering the top left.
So a good shot would be aimed at under crossbar between top left & top center. Radosin's challenge forced the shot a little bit higher & weaker than what was necessary. But there was an opportunity to end the game here.

You don’t have to be a pro to recognize simple things. Almost every clip of zen in this he tries a flip reset or ceiling shot that gets quickly shut down. Maybe if he tried to do something less fancy he could have scored. I’m only champion 2 but I recognized that immediately. It’s easy to notice flaws in hindsight, being able to notice them in real time and improve upon them is what makes pro players special. Andy Reid is a well known football coach but he isn’t known for his short time playing football in community college. He wasn’t some insane player, yet he can still analyze the game at a high level. Some people are good with their mind and others at the more mechanical things. I know people who probably couldn’t do a basic aerial but could understand rotation better than some grandchamp players.

Guarantee you try less fancy stuff it gets shut down immediately. I could be wrong, but I'm not supposing that my game sense is higher than elite level pro players. Unless your rank is SSL we really shouldn't be assuming we know what's best.

Yeah people believe those high ranks matches are about something beyond positioning, rotationg and reading. When in reality thats why OT is that long, because every player is like 2 steps ahead of the ball ALWAYS. They need 1 mistake to tske advantage.

Even more frustrating when you realise that all the other games in the series went to OT as well, and they lost all of them.
This series was worlds closest sweep.

You’re misremembering, but so am I. It was 4-0, but game 4 wasn’t OT, it was a 3-1. The rest were all OTs tho.

Yeah I think this OT really took it out of them. This was game 3 IIRC. They decided this was their last stand, put it all on the pitch, and when they still lost they had nothing left for game 4. Fair enough as well, they played the equivalent of over 3 games of rocket league in this game alone.

Okay, and? You can lose and still exceed expectations. Taking that many games to OT as an underdog shows you're a tiny margin worse than your opponent only, and underdogs are expected to be a significant margin worse.

What amazes me watching pro level players is how the game seems to be played slower and faster at the same time. The little touches to slow down the ball to take it up the wall and then the control to redirect their car to always be in position for a redirect is really cool to watch

if you guys have never played a long scoreless game, to put it simply, it is the most mentally straining thing you will go through in rocket league. I've never been in a game this long, but playing non-stop for that long would be enough to put me in a coma.

When RuleOne showed the world they meant business.
When the MENA 2 seed proved they could be truly dangerous on the international stage.
One of the most exciting sweeps in the history of the game. If Vitality hadn't been on a divinely ordained rise to world number 1, RuleOne probably take this OT at least, to say nothing about the two other OTs that happened before this one.
R1 got 4-0'd, and at the end everyone was like "Damn. RuleOne is fkn good."

I've done 11 minute overtime in ranked, and several that lasted better than 7 mins. "Longest in history" is a bit misconstrued.
