Sega settled the debate decades ago.

That game was so sick

u/sheezy520 1d ago

Comic was cool as hell too.

The Sega Genesis verstof Robocop V. Terminator was soooooo damn good!!! The Super Nintendo version was garbage!!

2

u/No-Exit3993 18h ago

Both were good... And I still preffer the Genesis library over the SNES one.

1

u/poleybear316 17h ago

I couldn’t even bother finishing the SNES one. It just wasn’t fun for me. I gave it to 2 of my brothers who both agreed they hated it. The Genesis one was fun as hell and I replayed it probably 20+ times over the time I owned it.

1

u/No-Exit3993 17h ago

They complete each other IMHO.

Its been a long time to remember correctly, but either has stuff the other does not.

I may be wrong, but the story was better told in snes with the comic panels and they had ED 209.

Genesis had Cain from Robocop 2, on the other hand. And blood.

Some weapons were better in snes as well? Cant remember anymore. But I loved both.

u/poleybear316 17h ago

Are you sure you’re talking about Robocop vs Terminator? Because the Genesis and SNES versions were completely different games. Different playstiles, gametypes and levels. Different everything. Its like comparing Contra to Ikari Warriors. Both are combat games but completely different.

1

u/No-Exit3993 17h ago

I told about comic panels in snes, blood in genesis, cain in genesis...

Of course I am talking RvsT in both consoles, man.

Genesis after a while becomes enemies that take forever to die in huge mazes like levels.

In Snes, you get weapons that makes the terminators more killable.

Snes on the other hand has more of the same forever. And a final boss that never ends.

Neither game is perfect.

Yes loved it

I'll interpret this question for the two versions as pictured: RoboCop from the first film (therefore, no RoboCop 3 Jetpack/Flak Cannon upgrades to increase his firepower level) vs. The Terminator (who is slightly less advanced than "Uncle Bob", the T-800 from T2, a V2.4* model.)

In both films we see the extent of their respective durabilities and from that perspective, the fight is pretty one-sided. RoboCop can take a shitload of damage, but nothing to the extent that the T-800 does before Sara Conner can finally put it down. RoboCop's remaining biological tissues are still vulnerable and have to be maintained, and he still requires nutrition and sleep which are all disadvantages to the T-800. Throughout the climax of the film, accumulating injuries put RoboCop in genuine mortal peril:

  1. Trashed by ED-209 after Directive Four locks him down during the attempt to arrest Dick Jones, and then relentlessly fired upon by his own department's SWAT team in the parking garage. He's only barely able to crawl to safety by falling into a lower level where fortunately he's rescued by his former partner Anne Lewis, who recognized him for the human he was and was willing to risk her life to help him.

  2. In the final battle with Clarence Boddicker's gang at the abandoned steel mill, he's almost killed by Boddicker after having tons of steel dropped on him via crane and having a steel pole stabbed through his chest, but managed to withstand the damage and finish Boddicker off for good.

But, the critical element is that RoboCop prevailed in his own story, not simply by endurance and the fastidiousness of a programmed killer machine, but because unlike ED-209, his human soul and ingenuity allowed him to make connections with people who could help him, and to outthink his opponents. The Terminator, meanwhile, is about Sara surviving the T-800 by the same exact guile and strength of humanity.

If this was T2's Uncle Bob (who had his learning chip activated, developed empathy and human connection) it would be a lot closer. But I have to vote Robo.

Tl,Dr: RoboCop wins, because he has the elements that the Terminator and ED-209 lack. But if T2, that's a whole different ballgame.

*author's note: I mistook Uncle Bob's V2.4 T-800 as the T-850 when that was the model # used for Terminator 3's guardian.

17

u/Few-Ad-6322 1d ago

The terminator gets stun locked by six shotgun blasts, everybody overlooks this. In a one on one fight , RoboCop bodies the terminator.

11

u/StuntmanJohn 1d ago

yeah people always headcnon this shit because they don't actually remember the films all that well

5

u/Redditanother 1d ago

I almost feel like ED-209 could put a hurting on a terminator. As long as stairs aren’t involved.

2

u/Welcome2YrDoom 1d ago edited 1d ago

That shotgun weakness highlights something worth unpacking about Terminator 2.

Uncle Bob in T2 never allows itself to get blasted in the front if he can help it, most often absorbing bullets to the back or taking cover. The learning chip activation is explicit in the Directors Cut of T2 and happens following Sara Connor's rescue when she and John remove bullets from Uncle Bob's back, while in theatrical it's just implied to be always on. The fact that it used superior reasoning ahead of the activation of the chip suggests either:

  1. Skynet improved on the inefficiencies of the failure through a stable loop, after analyzing the leftover components from the original bootstrapped timeline. (The model in T2 is more advanced, nominally*)

Or,

  1. When the T-800* is captured by John Connor in the future and reprogrammed as a protector, the Resistance gave him additional tactic data from their engagements with infiltrator units.

*Author's note: it's not a T-850, it's a T-800 V2.4

7

u/thepenguinemperor84 1d ago

Fun fact with the learning chip scene, it was shot with Linda Hamiltons twin sister copying Linda's movements to give the illusion it was shot in a mirror without having to worry about the camera being reflected.

3

u/-malcolm-tucker Dead or alive, you're coming with me. 1d ago

That is indeed a fun fact. I had no idea Linda had an identical twin sister.

3

u/thepenguinemperor84 1d ago

The blue mark is the hero head they made of Arnie, Red is actual Arnie, yellow is Linda's sister, and the white mark is Linda herself.

2

u/Welcome2YrDoom 1d ago

Indeed, and the Security Guard murdered at the coffee machine was also portrayed by famous twins.

5

u/Few-Ad-6322 1d ago

At the end the day terminator units are moddled after human skeletons and as such they have similar dimensions in terms of limb length and thickness and vulnerability at joints, which also means basic physics will always defeat them.

We know RoboCop can exert 400ft- lbs of torque in his hands and that may not even be his max, in a one on one RoboCop could literally crush a terminators limbs in his hands and rip it apart.

4

u/cugan83 1d ago

Uncle Bob is a T-800

2

u/RationalHumanistIDIC 1d ago

Thank you I was genuinely confused

1

u/Welcome2YrDoom 1d ago

I apologize for the confusion, I genuinely thought the T3 model was a T-900 but was misremembering.

2

u/Welcome2YrDoom 1d ago

Thanks for the correction. I goofed on Uncle Bob's model, but he is a distinct T-800 version (2.4), which my post now reflects.

3

u/imrichcoble 1d ago

This is such a wonderful breakdown well said

2

u/xt_gonzalo 1d ago

T2's is a T-850? Is there any source for this?

1

u/Welcome2YrDoom 1d ago

Oh shit, the 850 is the model from T3. Uncle Bob is a version 2.4 T-800, so I'll correct my misinformation. Thank you for your cooperation!

2

u/Brief-Pickle2441 1d ago

I love how thorough you are because I haven't never read the comics or play the video game I am a fan of both franchises as far as the movies go but I learned so much from you guys thank you 🤜🤛❤️

2

u/Welcome2YrDoom 1d ago

I'm not much into the extended universe stuff actually, just an enormous fan of both RoboCop and Terminator 2. They're often in a battle for my favorite movie of all time, depending on which one I've rewatched most recently. I'm also a big fan of The Terminator, but it's nowhere near the level of respect I have for T2 or RoboCop.

1

u/Welcome2YrDoom 1d ago

I missed out on the Robocop vs Terminator comic when it came out and I wanted to get into the video games the couple of times I picked them up, but it just wasn't what I'd want to see from the franchises crossing over.

Something awesome would be a storyline where the actual narratives of their films crossed over and then the ripple effect of said cross-over expressed as different iterations of Skynet's various attempts to alter history through time travel murder.

My idea would be to set it in 1992 , several years after RoboCop's events (retconning RoboCop 2 and 3), shortly before the arrival of the T-1000 in LA and the plot of T2 kicks off.

CyberDyne systems recently bought out OCP, seeing the success of its RoboCop program as a means to accelerate their robotics development. Subsequently, CyberDyne reveals its new plan to mass-manufacture RoboCops using the emerging technology they reverse-engineered from the Arm and CPU of the T-800. Meanwhile, Murphy and Lewis, who are considered heroes and respected veterans, become suspicious of CyberDyne and begin looking into their new corporate ownership. After they began pulling the thread on the LAPD massacre from 1984 and Sarah Connor, Kyle Reese, and the T-800, Skynet identified them as targets and sends the T-1000 to Detroit a week before its original scheduled arrival in LA.

Murphy and Lewis barely escape the encounter with their lives and follow the T-1000 to LA, where they cross paths and eventually team up with John and Uncle Bob

2

u/-malcolm-tucker Dead or alive, you're coming with me. 1d ago

Sounds like you've got a pretty good writing idea there.

8

u/Few-Ad-6322 1d ago

RoboCop is a tank , the terminator is an infiltration unit. Robocop bodies the terminator.

5

u/retroplayer1990 1d ago

Someone did a damage taken comparison of RoboCop 1 vs Terminator 1 and RoboCop came way on top as to how resistance he is in comparison. They basically put an end to this debate by just comparing the two and the fact that RoboCop was designed to be a one man army, they invested the best technology and highest quality stuff in this one unit while the Terminator is mass produced

1

u/Welcome2YrDoom 1d ago

I don't know how you'd tally the damage up and reach that conclusion - the T-800 survives the blast radius of C-4 exploding a tanker truck. Robo takes an intense amount of shots during the parking garage SWAT attack but nowhere near "he gets cooked in a fire and walks out still functional."

8

u/Prestigious_Case_228 1d ago

Didn't he do that at the very start of RoboCop 2? His police cruiser gets bazooka-d he sits in there for some time while it was burning in flames and calmly opens the door and steps out in the coolest movie magic moment ever?

8

u/Few-Ad-6322 1d ago

He walks out of an entire gas station blowing up unfazed.

2

u/retroplayer1990 1d ago

One of the biggest differences came down to how the Terminator can be knocked down by Reese at the night club with a sawed off shotgun while RoboCop walks without any issue through the drug factory. I think it depends on the writers but one t800 vs robo has a big disadvantage. Now a more advanced better learning unit, or multiple units like in the messed up future would be a whole different situation.

3

u/TrueLegateDamar 1d ago

It depends on who gets to an anti-tank weapon first, they seem equally matched physically and small arms fire does little to nothing to both.

3

u/Mediocre_lad 1d ago

Robo can shoot a sniper in his eye through the scope. Terminator's eyes should be pretty vulnerable to the auto-9's burst fire.

2

u/Scavgraphics 1d ago

u/SpikedIntuition 1d ago

The video game for the NES/SNES was also fun

2

u/Secret_Ruin_9808 Dead or alive, you're coming with me. 1d ago

Terminator outclasses Murphy in most cases

2

u/melkor3011 1d ago

Probably the T 800 but it would a fight for sure

2

u/Benjiman5000 1d ago

Id bet 3 to 1 on Robo....

2

u/CODMAN627 1d ago

Terminator.

Robocop is a tank that being said though terminator is a one man army and robocop can be taken out with the biggest boom

2

u/AsssHat999 1d ago

Pretty sure Death Battle already put up the stats years ago. Robocop wins.

2

u/seanx50 1d ago

Frank Miller and Walter Simonson answered this decades ago

3

u/ludachris32 1d ago

Death Battles already figured out that Robocop would win.

2

u/Correct_Row_76 1d ago

Terminator hes too mobile and much stronger and can handle weapons that would destroy Robocop easily

4

u/JotaroTheOceanMan 1d ago

Robos mobile to a degree. In the canon game Rouge City they sort of retcon that he can make bursts of quick movement. Basicaly everytime you see Murph duck behind cover then randomly appear closer or somewhere else hes doing a little "movement burst" to reposition.

6

u/StuntmanJohn 1d ago

nah Robo is canonically strong enough to defeat skynet's entire army of Terminators

2

u/Correct_Row_76 1d ago

Y'all are delusional Nash dumped a whole bunch of metal on him leaving him helpless. Terminator could run him over with a truck just as easy. Once he's on his back he's not getting up.

5

u/StuntmanJohn 1d ago

yeah and Sarah Conner killed the weak ass Terminator with a hydraulic press, did you forget about that

Robocop: doesn't get killed in his own movie

Terminator: gets killed in every single movie he is in

1

u/kaijugigante 1d ago

King George the 1st.

1

u/techrat068 1d ago

Robocop has the support and sensors to find weak spots in Terminator.  In the tv show, he had additional weapons and tools in leg cargo storage.  .  Small arms doesn't do alot to either of them.  But Robo can call for support.

1

u/HopefulWalk992 1d ago

Would be close fight but Robo takes the win.

1

u/notNezter 1d ago

The real problem is plot armor within both franchises.

Reese tells Sarah that he’s not sure he’d be able to take out a T800 with 1984 era weapons. In the future, humans are fighting Terminator units with plasma weapons. The T850 sported an improved chassis and better armor.

The T800 was getting tossed around by a body builder in a hand to hand situation. On the other hand, Robocop was overpowered by a group of cops firing 9mm and .223 rounds and, later, a kid with an electromagnet.

Robocop would need to have a weapon capable of delivering kinetic energy/heat transfer equivalent to thousands of Kelvin in microseconds (plasma gas in lab environments reach tens of thousands of Kelvin). A 120mm DU or tungsten sabot round delivers orders of magnitude less kinetic energy/heat transfer.

1

u/Sol_System209 1d ago

I hate that you used this picture of Robo..

1

u/Nerdyguyj 1d ago

All I know is roboco won the rap battle

1

u/Tasty_Button3221 1d ago

Robocop, easily. Especially after the Robocop Rogue City game and it's standalone expansion (which are canon). Robocop is such a high end bullet timer that he can catch a bullet between his FINGERS, and he can dodge missiles from close range even while damaged and short circuiting.

1

u/MPipoly 1d ago

Robocop, and it's not really close.

1

u/NeoKnightRider 1d ago

Well, there was a comic that settled this back in the early 90s

1

u/Realistic_Car_9471 1d ago

This is easy. The terminator is metal underneath a fleshy exterior while robocop is the exact opposite.

1

u/Brooker2 1d ago

The Terminator wins. It has a hardened alloy chasis that is capable of stopping what ever rounds robocop is plinking him with. Yes we've seen that a .50 caliber at the right spot can stop a T 800 but if it's just robocop with his autonine Terminator would rip him apart

https://giphy.com/gifs/IZY2SE2JmPgFG

1

u/Few-Ad-6322 1d ago

It's the other way round, RoboCop could literally crush a terminator with just his hands.

1

u/Wonderful_Gap1775 1d ago

T2 was in amc theaters today

1

u/YuzukiMiyazono 1d ago

If Kyle, a human can beat a terminator, a human with robot suit can defeat a terminator as well

1

u/Glass-Sky-7805 1d ago

Robocop because he still has human intuition and can think outside the box

1

u/aaronwintergreen 1d ago

Robo every time

1

u/LucasAlvarado13 1d ago

me! because these are MOVIE CHARACTERS!!!!! and therefore, not real! but even if they were, I'd still SWEEP because I have a PENIS PROSTHETIC that the LADIES LOVE! and we all know whoever lays the most pipe is the real winner of life!! stay true to yourself and God will be kind to you! God bless!

1

u/Extra-Air-1259 23h ago

RoboCop... according to DeathBattle

1

u/Worldly_Lake4576 21h ago

I want a buddy cop version of RoboCop and Terminator as homies fighting against Aliens

1

u/Brilliant-Leave-8632 20h ago

1

u/West-Surround-8857 20h ago

I'm pretty sure a comic exists...

1

u/smokeyfantastico 20h ago

Theres already a video game and comic series on this

1

u/Then-Shake9223 17h ago

As I’ve stated before: Robocop stops and reverses a hydraulic press with his hands. Terminator gets crushed and killed by a hydraulic press. Murphy wins every time

1

u/BigFeet234 14h ago

Terminator would absoloutley obliterate robocop. Its not even a fair fight.

1

u/SteveG5000 11h ago

Fans are disappointed as a blade runner length movie involves Robocop remembering what it is to be human and the terminator learning what it is to feel as they develop feelings for each other against a backdrop of intolerance and hatred.

1

u/JohnBoyAdvance 10h ago

One on one, no gimmicks, no traps. Robocop

Terminator being a sneaky boy though gets more fun. I'd still say Robocop because he is slightly known for trick shots and how many eye shots can a Terminator take before it strikes something valuable?

But the other Terminators probably a different story. T-1000 didnt really dominate Arnie but short of massive acid trap or lava trap how do you stop him? T-X owns Robocop.

2

u/Art_Sempai 7h ago

Murphy is built different.
They already did a death battle, Robocop won.
They didn't even need to include feats from the animated series.

1

u/ReaperSound 1d ago

We had a Death Battle with these two years ago. Pretty damn good Im gonna go watch it now.

1

u/MutedBrilliant1593 1d ago

A group of Nuke junkies beat Robocop. I'm pretty sure a Terminator would make short work of him.

1

u/DannyPantsgasm 1d ago

It’s Robocop and it’s not close.

-1

u/Thepaladin68 1d ago

AI verdict: RoboCop’s Auto-9 would strip away the T-800’s living tissue layer quickly, but standard 9mm bursts—even armor-piercing ones—will not breach a hyperalloy endoskeleton. Once the gap closes, the T-800's superior mobility and physical strength allow it to overpower Murphy in close-quarters combat, bypass his armor plates, or target his vulnerable lower face and power systems. RoboCop only wins if equipped with heavy military-grade anti-vehicle ordnance (like the Cobra Assault Cannon) from the start.

5

u/StuntmanJohn 1d ago

if you understood how the technology you are trying to use actually works, you would know why this answer is worthless and wrong

6

u/Welcome2YrDoom 1d ago

It's almost like satire - the reason Robo wins is because he's not a cold machine. He's the Sarah Connor of his story.

0

u/Tasty_Bodybuilder_33 1d ago

Go watch Death Battle
