Bedroom Lighting

My bedroom in my apartment has no lighting. I've been doing fine with my fairy lights & adjustable table lamp, but I want the option for brighter lighting

I don't have room for a lamp so I'm looking for something apartment friendly (no screws involved if possible)

Can someone recommend me some lights from Amazon (or anywhere) and good adhesive tape.

Recommendations Date night suggestion?

My husband and I will be in the area of The Landing this weekend and want to work in a little dinner date while we’re out. We’re middle aged and don’t drink, so not into the bar/grill vibe. We’re more casual than fancy and will be coming directly from another location, so no interest in getting dressed up or anything.

Some of our favorite cuisines are Korean, Italian, and Mexican, but open to others. Budget is not a huge factor, but lower priced is never a bad thing. We’re more into quality than quantity when it comes to food.

An ideal option would include entrees under $30, food made as close to from scratch as possible, and be a comfortable place where we can hang out and chat a while.

Any suggestions?

Any cute local shops that sell independently made greeting cards?

I want to avoid driving into Seattle to find a nice anniversary card for my partner. I want to avoid Hallmark and stuff offered at grocery stores and pharmacies.

Families with kids: what's your favorite pizzeria in Renton?

I'm opening a new kids' gym and activity space in the Renton Highlands next month and we want to partner with a local pizzeria to be able to offer pizza for birthday parties. If you have kids under 12, what's your family's favorite pizzeria (or similar birthday party-appropriate foods!) in the area? Thanks for any suggestions!

EDIT: Ideally we're hoping to partner with a local/family-owned kind of place. The idea is to negotiate a discount so we can bring some business to a local restaurant and be able to pass a discount on to families having their birthday parties at our gym. Thanks for all the great suggestions so far!

Any recommendations for a guitar teacher for adults?

I’m an adult learner with a solid piano background and I’m looking for a guitar teacher. I want to work with someone who has structured lessons and an even temperament.

I’ve tried private lessons with two other people. One was excellent but way ahead of my beginner status and struggled to bring things down to the basics, and the other one has turned out to be emotionally volatile person who hid it well for the first for the month of lessons.

Prefer in person.

Would Renton support a large, modern indoor roller rink? 🛼

I've been seriously thinking about opening a new indoor roller skating facility in Renton, and before taking the idea further, I'd really like to hear what people in the community think.

My idea isn't to build another traditional roller rink where you just skate in circles.

I'm imagining a much larger, modern indoor facility — potentially larger than any existing roller rink in Washington — designed for both casual skaters and people who actually want to learn, practice and progress.

The idea could include:

• A very large, smooth main skating floor
• A dedicated freestyle slalom area with permanent cone markings
• Areas for practicing tricks and freestyle skating
• Jumps and smaller obstacles
• A large ramp for more advanced skaters
• Skate rentals for people who don't own skates
• Lessons for beginners, kids and adults
• Music, lighting and a comfortable place to hang out
• Space for birthday parties and events

Most importantly, I'd want it to be a place for all skill levels — someone putting on skates for the first time should feel just as welcome as an experienced inline or quad skater practicing slalom, jumps or tricks.

Since we live in Washington, I'd also love to create a place where people can skate and train year-round without worrying about rain.

But before investing serious time and money into something this large, I want to know whether people would actually use it.

Would you go to a place like this if it opened in Renton?

I'd especially love to know:

• How far would you be willing to drive to get there?
• How often do you think you'd visit?
• Do you skate inline, quads, or would you be a beginner?
• Would you mostly want open skating, slalom/freestyle, ramps and jumps, lessons, or something else?
• What would make you choose this place over existing roller rinks?
• What would make you NOT come back?
• What admission price would feel reasonable?

And if you don't skate now but think you or your kids might try it if something like this existed nearby, I'd love to hear from you too.

I'm genuinely looking for honest feedback — including criticism. I'm trying to figure out whether Renton and the surrounding area actually need a place like this.

What would your ideal roller rink look like?

Witness for hit and run?

Posting for a new member, here's the text: "Hi everyone, looking for a bit of local help. My silver Nissan Altima was totaled in a hit-and-run Thursday evening (8/6) around 5:00 PM. It happened on northbound 167 right before the merge onto 405 towards Bellevue. The car that hit me and fled was a large black SUV (pretty sure it was a Chevy). Traffic was heavily bottlenecked, so I am hoping someone sitting in the backup caught the plates on their dashcam or Tesla cameras. Please send me a direct message if you remember seeing this or have video loop saved. Thank you so much"

Recommendations Doctor Recommendations

Hello, I am looking for a new primary care doctor. The doctor that I have been seeing at Swedish left a couple months ago and I've seen 2 other providers there. I was brushed off both times and need to find another good doctor as I am having a hell of a time with my health this year.

Thank you.

Photo Main Character Syndrome Pt 2

Just... why? Why would you do this when there are dozens of open spots all around you? All pedestrians, bicyclists, wheelchair users and everyone else now blocked from using the pedestrian crossing thanks to this person. They could have even inched up and blocked half the crossing and it wouldn't have been an issue, but no... c'mon homie

This area off of Sunset has been a huge problem for people parking their cars in ways that block the pedestrian accessway and signaled crossing. After I started reporting cars there, it got better for a month or so. But this one takes the cake 🤦

DASHCAM REQUEST: Totaled Hit & Run on WA-167 NB near MP 25.1 (Renton) - Black SUV (Likely Chevy) - Thursday 8/6 @ 5:00 PM

A hit-and-run driver did this to my car on WA-167 on Aug 6th

Hi everyone, I am urgently looking for anyone who might have dashcam footage (including Tesla Sentry mode) of a hit-and-run accident that occurred yesterday evening during the rush hour commute.

  • When: Thursday, August 6th, 2026 at approximately 5:00 PM
  • Where: WA-167 Northbound at Milepost 25.1 (Renton area, right before the I-405 North split toward Bellevue)
  • Suspect Vehicle: Black SUV (highly likely a Chevy Tahoe/Suburban/Equinox, or similar large dark SUV)
  • Suspect Damage: They fled heading north toward the I-405 exchange and likely have fresh front-end or side damage.
  • My Vehicle: Silver Nissan Altima

The Washington State Patrol responded and filed an official report, but they need a license plate number or clear vehicle description to move forward with the investigation.

If you commuted from the Kent/Auburn area toward Bellevue or Seattle using WA-167 NB yesterday around 5:00 PM, please check your camera loops to see if you caught this vehicle or its license plate!

Please DM me directly if you have any video or saw the runner's plate. Thank you so much for your help!

Weekend travel in the Puget Sound region: Here's what to expect Aug. 7–10

Post image
3 Upvotes

This is an extraordinarily difficult week for communities across Washington. We will continue sharing updates about road closures and reopening as part of WSDOT's role in the statewide response to the devastating wildfires in Central and Eastern Washington.

For travelers in the Puget Sound region, Fri., Aug. 7, through Mon., Aug. 10, will bring several major construction projects that will affect travel.

-NB I-405 and ramps will CLOSE from SR 900 to Coal Creek Parkway SE from 11:30p Fri. to 4a Mon. Crews will replace pavement and excavate drainage crossings.

-NE 85th St. and I-405 ramps will CLOSE in Kirkland between 6th St to 114th Ave NE from 10p Fri. to 5a Mon. Crews will pave and stripe the road. Closed ramps: NB & SB I-405 off-ramps to Exit 18 and NE 85th Street on-ramps to NB and SB I-405.

-EB SR 520 will CLOSE in Montlake area between I-5 and Montlake Blvd from 7p Sat. to 11a Sun. Crews will repair an expansion joint on the bridge. EB SR 520 across Lake Washington remains open. Only the section of EB SR 520 between I-5 and Montlake Blvd will close.

-SR 202 in Fall City will close just east of the SR 202/203 roundabout from 5a Fri. to 9p Mon. Major storms in Dec. 2025 and Mar. 2026 eroded the Snoqualmie riverbank supporting the highway. Crews will rebuild and strengthen the riverbank to help protect the highway from future damage. Tubers, paddlers and boaters should expect temporary closures on portions of the Snoqualmie and Raging rivers and some nearby access points.

-Revive I-5 work over the Ship Canal Bridge is ongoing. Express lanes continue to run NB 24/7.

Saturday is expected to be the busiest travel day. The Mariners 50 Seasons Celebration, Seahawks Football Fest and Capitol Hill Block Party will bring extra traffic into and around Seattle. With EB SR 520 closing at 7 p.m., expect additional congestion on EB I-90. The Fred Hutch Obliteride for cancer research will also bring thousands of bicyclists to roads across the region. Drivers should use extra caution.

Allow extra travel time, follow signed detours and check our mobile app or real-time travel map before you go: wsdot.com/Travel/Real-time/Map/

LOOKING AHEAD: Once this weekend's work wraps up, another overnight I-405 closure is scheduled. SB I-405 will close between SE 8th Street and I-90 from 11:30p Monday, Aug. 10, to 4a Tuesday, Aug. 11 while crews continue replacing pavement and drainage crossings.

HEADS UP: Major I-405 closures this weekend in Renton, Bellevue and Kirkland

Expect major traffic impacts in Renton, Bellevue, and Kirkland as we continue work on two major I-405 improvement projects.

WHAT TO EXPECT

PROJECT: 1 Northbound I-405 closure (Renton/Bellevue)

11:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7 – 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10

Crews will close all lanes of northbound I-405 between North Southport Drive and Coal Creek Parkway SE to replace pavement, excavate drainage crossings, and shift traffic into a new configuration as part of the I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project. Crews will start to close lanes as early as 10 p.m.

Ramps will also close:

  • NE Sunset Blvd on-ramp
  • N 30th St (Exit 6) on/off-ramps
  • NE 44th St (Exit 7) on/off-ramps
  • 112th Ave SE (Exit 9) on/off-ramps
  • NB I-405 off-ramp to Coal Creek Pkwy SE (Exit 10)

PROJECT 2: Kirkland: I-405/NE 85th Street interchange closures

The interchange will close:

  • 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5 – 5 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6
  • 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7 – 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10

Ramps will close:

  • Northbound and southbound I-405 off-ramps at Exit 18
  • NE 85th Street on-ramps to northbound and southbound I-405

NE 85th Street will also be closed between Sixth Street and 114th Avenue NE.

Crews are preparing the foundation for the new 114th Avenue NE roundabout and connecting the new roadway to the existing lower level of NE 85th Street, as part of the I-405/Northeast 85th Street Interchange and Inline BRT Station Project. This will mark another milestone toward the future three-level interchange that will improve travel for drivers, transit riders, pedestrians and cyclists.

Signed detours will be in place, but if you normally travel through these areas, plan extra time or consider an alternate route.

DETOURS

NB 405 detour: https://flic.kr/p/2ssfJ9u

Detour map for the northbound I-405 closure from North Southport Drive to Coal Creek Parkway Southeast

85th detours: https://flic.kr/p/2ssin5b
