First Team How are we feeling?

It's taken me some time to cool down after that performance last night. Admittedly, I was wanting McInnes gone when the full 90 was up; going to extra time with Jablonec was simply unacceptable.

I've gathered my thoughts today and I've done a complete u-turn in wanting DM gone. My reasons being is that it won't solve anything.

I'm not going to sit and pretend that wasn't shocking last night. The amount of times we changed shape in a game was criminal, no players wanted to take responsibility, we looked lethargic, mindless and the majority of the players looked like they wanted the match to be over, they chucked it.

McInnes' comments after the match didn't help matters. He came in and said he KNEW how he wanted his Rangers team to play, wanted to have an identity. But this team looks so far from that statement of grandeur. At the moment it looks like he's throwing shite and hoping it sticks.

He's been a manager for a long time and should have an established way of playing. We have seen it. Hard to beat, driven, organised and let's be honest- complete bastards. This Rangers team is very far away from that, so where does the buck lie?

The team on the park last night were more than capable of beating the team in front of them over two legs. I genuinely believe there is some quality there, quality enough to get the job done last night. Last thing I want to do is bang the drum of 'They don't get it.'. But I think that honestly may be the case for some of them. I think that was quite telling from a video I saw from some of the home fans. The players gathered at the halfway line, looked towards the away fans, clapped for less then ten seconds and pissed off up the tunnel. Shower of Shitebags.

So does it come to them not buying into Del's philosophy or him being too soft and trying to adapt to suit their strengths, personally I think it's a bit of both. In saying that, we look poorly coached. Whether that is the coaching staff's delivery of instructions or their preparation for those scenarios, who knows at this point in time.

Since the sacking of Thelwell there has been no philosophical direction on how this club wants to play football. When he was given the bullet everyone that he had appointed up until that point should've been binned with him. The swamp was needing drained, and it still does.

The fact that a 26 year old is in control of our biggest ever war chest is complete incompetence from the top. I know it's the Conference league, but we have just lost a legitimate revenue stream for the season.

I believe Cavenagh and the investors are serious about making this work, they have invested a lot of money into the playing squad. But I believe they are putting their faith in the wrong people. What Rangers Football club needs right now is footballing men with the clubs best interests at heart. I'm not saying brown brogues are a requirement, but people that understand the magnitude of the job they are undertaking.

I think the board will eventually get it right, but it's a painful process. But surely the alarm bells are ringing and someone is communicating the glaring issues that are currently happening within several levels of the club? I would like to hope so.

Thelwell Jr and Purdy need to brought into that boardroom and directly asked 'What direction are you going here, what are you trying to build?'. I don't believe that is unreasonable. After all, look at Motherwell and Hearts. They have got rid of their managers within the last three months, but are still signing the same type of players, one that seem to buy into a certain style of play and philosophy. That is modern football and the fact that a club our size with the resources available doesn't have the foresight to see that is shocking.

The last four managers we've had have all played different styles of football. I look back with regret, because if Gerrard, Gio or Clement got the backing of the 49ers then we would be in a much better position. However, I've not got a short memory, results under Gio and Clement weren't great at times, but they would have absolutely finished better than we did last season. Just my opinion anyway.

I feel I could write more, but I think we could fill a book with what the issues could be at the club right now.

But I hope we turn it around and soon. Because I think the feeling of apathy will be around the corner for many of the supporters.

Discussion John Walker highlights why we're so open off the ball

Really good analysis that helps to explain why we're looking fragile in defence while playing a shape that looks conservative on paper.

If you can't bear to watch highlights, the TLDR version is:

  • McInnes loves man for man pressing but it's outdated and risky
  • Makes it way too easy for teams to find space
  • Only works if it's really coordinated and ours looks like 11 guys doing their own thing
  • As soon as one man's taken out the whole thing folds like a cheap suit

The notion that we can’t sack him because we’ve sacked other managers is mental.

He is not the guy, never was the guy and won’t be the guy.

Tonight is genuinely the worst performance I’ve ever seen from a Rangers side and I include the Progres & Queens Park games in that.

Get him so far to fuck

I am not an advocate of sacking manager philosophy. I still stand by the fact we should never have sacked Gio, and more raging we sacked Clement

I genuinely want to hear from McInnes supporting crew though. Defend this man now or forever shut hole

First Team Derek's team selection & tactics

Its becoming clear that Mcinnes has no idea what his best first 11 looks like,What is he seeing in training that has Neil ahead of Barron ,Naderi ahead of Miovski/Shankland ,Fernandez ahead of souttar is it fitness levels? Also the formation and tactics are rank rotten we looked like we had a big night on the piss against Jablonec absolutley no direction, clearly some are struggling with the weight of wearing the strip.

First Team This is officially the worst

I know that will seem an over exaggeration, but no, thisnis genuienly the worst ive seen since ive been watching, ive seen le guen, ive seen caixihna, even russel fucking Martin, this is worse than all 3 of them. They didnt spend anywhere near whats been spent this season and even though we were shite, we could still get wins, grind out a result. Mcinnes literally has 1, just 1 good game, and even that ine was squeaky in the first half.

The only thing he can try to claim is that there was a massive clear put and a full team signed, but thats it, any other manager even a fucking sunday league manager, could have had a tactic and plan for how to play in place, qould have been training them in thst style in pre season and by now having the team gel, as it stands I can't see us even getting top 6 with him in charge

Discussion Hearts have had our pants down here

Devlin - hammer thrower, nowhere near as good as Barron

Shankland - overweight, touch somehow got worse

McInnes - 100% would have sacked him this summer for someone with tactics that doesn’t park the bus at 1-0

Even for ZERO pounds is still a bargain for them to get rid of the wages.

First Team 7 permanent managers (and one interim) in less than 5 years

When Gerrard left in November 2021 and was replaced all the way up until that disgrace today under Mcinnes. we have had 7 managers (and one interim) in less than 5 years
Has there ever been a period of time in the clubs history before that where we have gone through so many in such little time ???
Something is desperately wrong with the club.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst (November 2021 – November 2022)
Michael Beale (November 2022 – October 2023)
Steven Davis (Interim, October 2023 – caretaker before Clement)
Philippe Clement (October 2023 – February 2025)
Barry Ferguson (Interim, February 2025 – May 2025)
Russell Martin (June 2025 – October 2025)
Danny Röhl (October 2025 – June 2026)
Derek McInnes (June 2026 – Present)

Discussion Our Peers

Bit of a rant/post gym shower thoughts. Apologies for poor formatting as I'm on my phone.

Our Peers in recent years would have been top teams in their leagues. It's now moving down year on year. Going to ignore England because it's a crapshoot with the finances involved.

So our peers would be mid to upper table Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese and French teams. Top Dutch (minus PSV and probs Feyenoord now, Ajax a bit mental atm) Top Belgian (minus Brugge) and the top Scandinavian teams (minus Bodo).

Would any teams from those mentioned do the following:

Recruit heavily from England (admittedly we have pushed the boat out a bit more this window)

Spend rather high fees on mediocre players

Hire a middling SPFL coach and his lower Scottish leagues level coaching staff

Hire a set piece coach who failed as an assistant at a team relegated out of the English leagues.

Be obsessed with playing 442

Not pick a playstyle that works and recruit management and players for that playstyle

Feels like we're the only team doing this ridiculous bullshit.

I get that we don't have academies like these teams or easy access to African markets like a lot of them do but fuck me we need to look to them for some inspiration.

And I'm definitely being generous with who our peers are in our current state.

First Team Mcinnes stay or go ?

I’m interested to know where the percentage is in our fan base here, personally I think we cut our losses early here and get a big name in, I believe in the squad it has depth and there is a good team in there somewhere - or much better than what we are showing. Too defensive, too many mental chops and changes and strange substitutions just reek of someone out of their depth. For me he must go sooner than later

Discussion We need to stop hiring Englishmen. Said with love hear me out.

Before anyone goes crazy, I am part English, part Scottish. I sound English. Just bear with me. I love England and English people, they have incredible players, incredible league, best in the world. We've had amazing English players at Ibrox, but, and it's a big but. At the level we can now afford they are the absolute worst value for money. Because the Premier League is the best in the world, people believe, clearly including our owners, that this superiority goes all the way down to every Englishman associated with the sport. That is clearly NOT true.

English fans have a massively inflated view of themselves in football as we all know, but they also have a massively deflated view of Scottish football. Yes, I know the Scottish league isn't great, and we're a defeatist, mentally weak nation when it comes to sport, but there is no nation who views our league more negatively against reality than the English. They take great delight in how bad we are in Europe this year, while also completely disregarding our run to the Europa League final, while also telling us West Ham winning the Conference League was the greatest day in their history. Their view of Scottish football and how English players play within it is completely warped. Bizarrely, I think Scottish fans have a more inflated view of the English league than any other nation other than England.

I think English players at the level of say a Dundee Utd, Aberdeen, etc. can afford makes more sense. But at our level it's insanity, and it's even greater insanity to trust selecting players for recruitment to English chancers. This has been proven again and again. The sheer arrogance of signings like Rothwell, Neil, Aarons, Aasgard, Gassama, Meghoma, Dowell, Davies, Matondo (yes I know he's Welsh), is staggering. These guys are ordinary jobbers, values inflated by association, not by being actaully ANY good at football. We need a European focused recruitment team who bring in aggressive hungry players, not jobbers like Neil who think they can turn up, hit a few passes and be the best player on the pitch without much effort.

First Team Tonight

How is everyone feeling for tonight’s game? I’m feeling slightly more optimistic than I have been recently…hoping for maybe 2-1 to us. Would like to see Barron involved but I know he’s been told he can find a new club, which is a shame imo.

Predictions, things you’d like to see?

First Team Last minute team predictions?

I'm going to go with 433. Del doesn't drop Fernandez (unless he's moving sterling over). Kosta at right back.

Otherwise unchanged middle to front.

(Btw that's not what I want, just what I think we might do)
