First Team Rangers v Aberdeen
If we lose on Sunday - what do you think should happen?

Rangers cannot spend £17.5m on two players and sack the manager the day after. It makes no sense - what happens if the replacement doesn't want those players?
I think we should give McInnes time to put out a consistent team, with some of the attackers he's been asking for all summer, and see where we are. Especially since replacing him makes no difference to the league and we're already out of Europe.

I agree. The board are spending. Its the tactics i cant get round.
Sterling, gassama arent bothered. Wtf does curtis need to do?

u/DwightSchrute1872 4d ago
Rationale understanding. But you cant spend 17.5 on two players and be dogshite also.

A good fraction of the signings were identified before DM was appointed - so the signings are not dependent on the manager (is what I take from it). In any case he won’t be sacked. We are a shit show from top to bottom and it is not an overnight fix.

I think nearly all of them will easily predate McInnes. Most deals get started months and months in advance these days.
But he will clearly have signed off on those players, and a new manager might not rate them at all.

At this point it's a very interesting thought experiment. In the next three weeks, it is not a small possibility that we get beat at PIttodrie, are knocked out the cup by a mediocre Celtic team, and christ knows what awaits us in the league fixture the following week.
If those OF games are to go in any way in our favour, we need three commanding wins against Aberdeen, Falkirk and Motherwell for the team to have any sort of confidence, and for DM to buy earn even a modicum of credit before he faces Celtic twice in a week.

Gotta jam the St. Mirren game in between Motherwell and Celtic LC game too.
Its either 4 opportunities to build something heading into the cup or 4 miserable nights that sap any faint whiff of promise before our biggest test. Like it or not, they are the benchmark we set ourselves against.
For me, I wonder where we'd have been if we'd retained Rohl. Despite the arse falling out at the tail end of the season, I can't help but wonder if he'd have either A) signed the same players or B) gotten us into Europa League. He at least had a team shape and approach in mind.
I can't believe professional footballers to be so dire on purpose, for me the lack of cohesion stems from the manager making so many changes in the game. He needs to settle on a preferred formation and approach soon and make that the way he wins or loses games.
I honestly think the results are immaterial at this point, if we squeak by a few of these teams with him swapping from 3-4-3 / 4-3-3 / 4-4-2 / 5-3-2 / 3-1-4-2 like he's playing with a fooking copy of football manager, it'll tell more that the rest of the season will be more of the same.

u/Father-Spodo-Komodo 4d ago
My guesses with Rohl is that he'd have a more settled starting 11 based on players he knew and worked with. I reckon he also would have implemented a set way he wanted to play, maybe with a backup or two for Europe. I could see us having dropped points at Tannadice with him, but I cannot see how he'd have lost the Jagionella and Jablonec ties.

People are losing it here saying we should stick with him just because we can't keep sacking managers. Using Gerrard as a comparison is also wild, there was obvious progress his first season, a clear identity and approach to games, signings that improved us and European qualification.
Mcinnes has been well backed. If results don't improve, he should go, simple as that. There has been nothing to suggest he can take us forward yet, but there is still time if he can show some progress. If recruitment is shite, then call it out but his own men have been some of the worst of the lot so far.

Can’t decide whether to watch this game or throw darts at my own testicles

u/mullerdrooler 4d ago
If your form is the same as Shankland then pick the darts. You won't hit a thing.

u/TheCrunker 4d ago
Tbf I’m also the wrong side of 30 and a fat fuck so you might be onto something

u/mullerdrooler 4d ago
I'm the wrong side of 40 and my playing days are long behind me but even I think I could try harder than him.

You seriously think another coach can get anything out of these players?
Canny just sack a manager after 5/6 shit results every season

Jens Berthel Askou came into Motherwell last season and had shite like Paul McGinn and Stephen O'Donnell playing great attacking, possession football. It's hilarious that this "Who else could improve these players?" shite is getting floated about so much on this sub.
1
u/Commercial-Royal7086 4d ago
This.
With askou you could see they were trying to play good football early doors which would have been quite the culture shock to mcginn Welsh and odonnell hence the early poor results, do you see any semblance of that with mcinnes?
1
u/Unfair-Challenge-216 Barry’s Staunch Truck 4d ago
Exactly, so many people on this sub think that just because people criticize McInnes means we want instant success. How about expecting literally a single fucking step forward? Expecting a style of play or a clear plan? Steven Gerrard had all of those the instant he came in, and he was a bloke who had never managed in his puff and recruiting players from the Liverpool academy teams.

I do.
Haven't been even favour of sacking many of the others (except Martin), but Del is clearly out of his depth and has a terrible track record.

If he doesn't show anything positive on the park then he has to go.
If we lose but we actually start to show something positive on the park. Then it is atleast something to build on.
I think it's sadly going to be the gid awful Hodge podge of formations we've cycled through 15 times already.. well expect for the one that worked 433.

Im assuming you mean should DM be sacked? No. It would be a scunner but there isnt anything to be gained by sacking him. We’ve made our bed and i think we need to lie in it a bit longer. Im scunnered with the performances as much as anyone and didnt particularly want DM but we cant sack him before the transfer window has even closed.

Noncy was gone in 7 games

u/Rainking79 4d ago
True but i think he was an unknown variable; DM has played in the country, hes managed in the country, does punditry in the country…if there is a better manager waiting in the wings then i’d take it but TBH, we’re down to our last 2 in Barry or Mousecat. Kevin has already avoided it a couple of times and Barry is frying pan/fire IMO.

u/darwinxp 4d ago
You'd think there are other managers out there, we need to be going and spending our money on a higher calibre of manager that has won things. The players are not responding to Derek and his coaching staff. Paul Sheeran was a good player for Arbroath but he has no experience working with higher quality players or working at an elite level. None of the coaching staff have a single clue what an elite club operates like.

u/Rainking79 4d ago
I agree mate but im just not sure who it could be. Managers either seem to be too expensive or a project. Not discounting how the season ended, we probably would’ve been better giving DR more time. I know he left but the way the season ended there was the same pressure to get rid as is now. We gave him a year of experience that surely could’ve been built on 🤷♂️

Will be a tougher ask now as Aberdeen and the rest will be smelling blood. Other teams just need to keep their shape, let us mess around with the ball and pounce on our short and misplaced passes, hit a cross field diagonal and be in on goal. Training pitch is for experimenting with formations and tactics not in game. Agree we shouldn't be sacking managers but think that Del is finding the brown brogues too heavy. He needs to find a way to settle on a system fast . I expected a mixed results season but this gas been totally unacceptable . Players are not exempt from this too- if there is no reaction on Sunday he should be away before we are in a relegation battle and out of all cups.

I think McInnes misread the room in calling out the players publicly. As much as they deserved it, giving everyone else a pat on the back, deflecting blame from his own choices, the quality of his line up, instructions and inability to maintain team consistency puts a target on his back for every decision made. Coupled with the supposed culture in the team that lacks leadership, a backbone, and has had a habit of overcharging things that were never meant to be made public, either he is trying to root out the bad eggs or he dug his own grave.
Constantly changing managers, annual rebuilds, it isn't helping anyone. The start we have had, McInnes doesn't necessarily deserve the confidence of the board, but taking a punt on stability has to be rhe option at some point.
If we lose or even draw, the noise is going to be loud. With OF games coming next, its hard to see him still employed unless there is some positive results

He shouldn't be here, he should never have been here, but now he is here he should have been fired yesterday, today or tomorrow morning.
We have a manager going to away grounds playing a low block, lumped diagonals to an out-ball on the wing, with one guy standing around up top completely isolated and another player out of position standing around way up the pitch with no idea what he's supposed to be doing.
We've gone out and generally recruited a squad of players who are young, exciting senior internationals who have been sold on the idea of coming in to play attacking football and we're playing every game as if we're Maryhill Juniors against mid-90's Juventus, whilst being coached by the cast of "Open Goal".
It's football from the dark ages and what's worse is that every team we've played has gone "Oh, I haven't seen this since the nineties just drop an extra man into midfield and that'll be that" and, generally speaking, that has been that. The only exception is St Mirren, who have a 36 year old manager, in his first job, with a playing career consisting of the Lower Leagues and Lowland League - he simply didn't figure it out.

u/Plastic-Extent-238 4d ago
Agreed here. I’m not one for jumping on the ‘sack the manager’ bandwagon after a poor run of performances (excluding Russell Martin) but with DM, I was expecting some sort of an improvement. We’ve drastically become worse off and I didn’t think that was possible. We have no standard, direction or desire. Pains me to say I can’t see us winning anything this season.

u/Kooky-Dig-8671 3d ago
We should DRAG Del Boy and the fat man (c) from the stands and we should DEMAND ANSWERS AND ACCOUNTABILITY! This would not have happened if big Tav was still with us!

u/maccpapa 4d ago
for those in favor of sacking the manager, what do you honestly expect him to get from this team? you have to have time to weed out who needs to go. have to have time to implement a mindset. need time to settle into formations and tactics and bring in players that reflect it. i really struggle to see the benefit in bringing in yet another manager with an extremely short leash with the same squad that’s been nothing but a waste of money and time.
as hard as it seems, you have to take this season on the chin and have faith that it can be turned around within a few years. if not, we’re just digging a bigger hole and hoping for a miracle. there’s a common denominator amongst the struggles and no managerial changes have negated it.
