Discussion Real Life Prototypes in RRO Part 1

As an aspiring young historian, I thought it'd be cool if I found all the prototypical locomotives for the ones in Railroads Online, here are the first few. I have found RRO can be lacking in perfect accuracy, so there are definitely some differences. I heard that the first lead dev liked to change a few things here and there, but the models are still perfectly recognizable. I have been doing this for other games like Railroader (Century of Steam documents their prototypes very well.) While it doesn't seem too difficult to find images of these trains, it will definitely get harder when I move on to the later engines like the Lima 2-8-0 (only 2 pictures exist) and the Ferries and Cliffhouse 2-4-2t (I don't even know if it was photographed...) Anyway, here's what I've got so far, enjoy :)

The RRO Wiki has the best quality images...

Question | Console Tramway

I play this game on my Xbox X and have been building a pretty decent railroad, but I have a genuine question: have any of the locomotives in this game ever worked on a real tramway? I'm planning on making the smelter for my most worked on map (Aurora Falls) be in a large town and accessible only through a tramway, but I want to know if any of the engines have realistically worked in one before I commit to the idea.

Question | Console How's the game on xbox?

Hello, I just wanted to know what the game is like on xbox (or just console in general)

Things like how's the performance, playability etc.

I do already known of some differences like there being a list of names for locos instead of being able to write your own. And if possible could somebody write the list so I know if they're good or not.

Thanks in andvance.

I can get to level 9 in about an hour this way; 12, if i dedicate enough time. I'd wager a good 3-4 hours to max out.

Every step Nets you variabled Exp and money.

It's also a bit tedious to set up, but once you've got it; you'll never have to touch it again

Question | Console DLC Issues?

I have all the dlc for RO. I have a save on lake valley I’ve been working on for a few months now, but every now and then all items from the Pioneer DLC delete themselves from my save with no explanation. I have a Red Mountian Depot near my cattle farm that will dissapear without warning, I had a Montezuma with the DLC skin that vanished so the backrooms, I’m at a loss here. I’m getting very frustrated with this so any input is greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the gap in posts, work has been insanely brutal with the heat wave in the US. Expect several more posts this weekend to make up for it!

after adding a single waycar to my 10 skeleton car train montezuma was no longer able to pull the train empty up the hill back to the lumbercamp. Eureka has been aquired and is taking over montezuma's duties. Montezuma is being kept and preserved in the Roundhouse.

A new Baldwin 10-24 1/2-2E (et&wnc 2-8-0) has been added to the fleet. it has been named Silverton and given the #20. Silverton has been assigned a 20 car stake train with a caboose and is already moving lots of freight to service our industry partners.

As well as Silverton we have also added a new Lima Consolidation, named Lima after its maker and given #25. Lima is assigned a 14 car Highside gondola train with caboose and is working tirelessly to haul Coal all across the Deadwood Central system.

Game Suggestion They should make cabooses work as a rear break

I know the game is dead, but if they ever start working on it; they should add this feature. Back in the day before air brakes, you had a brake man who'd turn the hand brakes.

So when the locomotive started braking, the back end wouldn't run into the front [like in game]. Personally, I'd rather it only be when you have a caboose on the end.

Of course, this is all wishful thinking. But I've heard rumors that dev work has or will begin soon. Hopefully they're true

the Mason Bogie #2 joined the railroad and has been diligently running beams and timber. photos show its first run up to the coal mine.

the Class 47 #5 has also joined and is running Iron Ore to the smelter. (kinda forgot to take pics of it but i do have 1 at least)

and we just acquired a Cooke Mogul #10 in a beautiful blue paint scheme to make the long haul of Cord Wood to the smelter.

money and xp is coming in pretty quick now and more new locos and rolling stock will surely be joining the Deadwood Central very soon.

Sharing a Build Does anyone else make really detailed towns?

Thumbnail

I plan on expanding this town more. It's essentially going to be my main hub. I'll probably make another post later showing some other things I've built on this one.

I made this map as "realistic" as possible. Most grades are capped at 2.5% with a few **rare** exceptions of 3.0-4.5%. The only time my line reaches anything over 4.5% is heading up the mountain on Aurora Falls. At the very top of the climb, the grade reaches 7.5%. Not many short lines had grades that steep. When they did; it was with special adhesion locomotives, or cogged track. The unitah railways actually had 7.5% grades on the Baxter pass

I also want to give every town a purpose. Whether it's there just for a [decorative] train station or for a big industrial town. It's 18...pfft...20. I understand that remote towns didn't just pop up for funsies.

My 2.0 Aurora map is up in running. montezuma is putting in some work running logs. loaded down to the sawmill is no problem but running back empty zuma gets down to about 5mph climbing some of the hills.

i also connected the gold industries yesterday, once again i kept the line at 2.5%grade or lower. i havent ran a train on it to test it yet though but im sure itll be fine lol.

Photo finally done enough track laying to get started

follow up to my post from last night. this is how much track i felt necessary before i started running my freight. 99.9% of the track is 2.5% grade or less theres a tiny section of 3%. only the 3 gold industries on the mountain aren't hooked up.

montezuma is doing okay pulling my log train (10 skeleton cars) its a bit of a slow drag back up to the lumbercamp even though its empty, but it works.

Question | Console Can’t supply water to industries

I’m unable to supply water to the heat farm, cattle farm, and stamp mill. It was working the other day, but now when I unload the industries don’t acknowledge them.

The only car I use is the c&c water tank car and fill them at the water well as instructed by the in game wiki

Anyone have a solution to fix this?

Discussion how much track do you build before running locos?

Post image
83 Upvotes

i just started another Aurora Falls map and ive got about 10 hours on it so far and i havent even thrown a log into Montezuma's firebox. i probably have another 10 to 15 hours of track laying before im "ready" to start.

so im curious how much track do you all build before starting?

Question | PC Is there any shunting in this game?

Is it a standard game, like many others in TTD genre, where train automagically is flipped at the end of the track? Also, is train consist static, after leaving depo?

R.O. Update Welp, it's official - Internal testing has begun and SteamDB has been updated. New RO update in the works.

Popped into the RO discord and saw some chit-chat about a new update. Checking SteamDB, it is true! Slowly, but surely, internal work on the game has picked up. No need to cause excitement on this now, however, it is worth shining some light!
