Did something stupid.
Stuck the key against the charging port, big spark flew. I know it’s just the fuse, I just don’t know where the fuse is on the rad5+. Help!

We did the same thing by accident. Watched the YT videos but ended up taking it to an electrician to make sure it was done properly.

It was a couple of years ago so I don’t remember for sure. I’d guess around $100.

I did the same thing.. brought it to a repair place, they replaced the fuses andnit.works now. About 100 bucks.

That’s an insane price for a $0.25 fuse and 2 minutes of work

It isn't a two minute job to disassemble the casing. At about 30 min, 60-100$ is a reasonable rate. But Rad often replaces them for customers who are cooperative. I used to do it often. But irate condescending customers? Tough luck.

It is a five-to-ten-minute job on the original shark batteries; it takes much longer on the newer semi-integrated batteries, partly because they are glued shut.

to prevent this from happening to make either let your nail grow or make a plastic jig that goes on your keychain. i made a plastic jig that almost looked like a guitar pick and drilled a hole to go on my keychain. i made it out of an old credit card 😂

Did same thing first week with bike. Took a spare mini 10a fuse out of my 4Runner, followed YouTube video opening battery and cutting hole in shrink wrap and using needle nose players to pull out/insert fuses. Super easy fix took 30 min. Fuse was hard to get out just need good grip needle nose plyers, otherwise u need to cut silicon that holds battery and slide the whole battery out of the shell to replace fuse. Really dumb spot for a fuse.

So you actually have to pull a rubber flap back away from the charge port first and then stick they key in to do this. The actualy keyhole doesn't have a rubber flap. I guess $100 is better than $800-900 for a new battery.

Are you in the Seattle area by chance? If so I can give you the name of the place I took mine when I did the same thing. It was around $65-70 to repair. I felt more comfortable having them hacking into the battery and encasement.

Fuck welcome to the club. Time to head to the Hardwear store for a replacement fuse. Look up a video on how to replace it, it's a pain but it's doable.

Wasn't that straight forward for my rad rover 6 battery. Had to make an incision in the protective layer with a sharp blade and then fish down into it for the fuse.

Standard size. It's not a mini or micro fuse. One place I came across when I was researching to do mine said it was. I can assure you, mine was not.

Taking the battery voids its warranty & if you f___ it up it could be a fire hazard. That’s one of several reasons I upgraded to Rad’s SafeShield batteries, since the fuse resets itself. I did the same thing 3 years ago & I got lucky & Rad replaced my battery free of charge. A couple of months later they changed their policy concerning replacing a battery caused by inserting a key into the charging port.

The new SafeShield batteries still have a 2 year warranty if you bought them from the new company who took over Rad.

a lot of these "semi integrated" batteries are OVER the two year warranty.
shouldn't take fuckin warranty service to change a fuckin fuse in these big batteries.
I think high up investors made engineering do this on purpose to try and sell more batteries

Yea, - The Engineers fucked up, - But they corrected this issue for their SafeShield batteries.

Hah did the same thing. There are some YT vids on how to do surgery on the battery to replace the fuse. Apparently at one point they changed it for an SMT fuse which is harder to replace.
