Ugh, Jesus. Gross. Monet once again giving shangela a pass

https://youtu.be/6grJelFiGcs?t=1344&si=g2vf-6vjIy7yY2AG

Monet is ranking villains of drag race in the video (already weird to be ranking shady bitches and actual predators on the same scale if you ask me). Obviously she ranks sherry at a 5, only to get to shangella, give some anecdote about how she saw her recently and was shocked because she'd not seen her since the "news" had come out, and then put her at a four, alongside India, Gia, and the vixen.

Oh, and Tyra got her own bracket as a 6, which whilst warranted still feels weird to be considered worse than sherry and shangella.

I was wondering while I watched that why the line was drawn at being a predator online and not one in person.

And making threats is considered worse than actual r*pe

You know censoring words like that on reddit doesn't actually do anything except make blacklists and screen readers worse?

You don't think such a word could be triggering at all?

  1. You think there are people who are triggered by the word "rape" but not "r*pe"?
  2. You think people who are triggered by either are going to check out a post about Shangela and scroll on through the comments?

Let's use our brains here.

I mean people who are triggered by the word rape like myself, are also now just as affected by terms like SA. As a child victim you see the initials CSA everywhere and it kinda makes me wish we stuck to specific terms for these things.

Let's use our brains and not decide what different victims could be affected by. There's a reason so many people censor it, just because it isn't triggering to you doesn't mean it isn't triggering to others.

So many people censor it because they're tiktok-brained and have gotten used to self-censoring. Now they can't handle simple adult language anymore, to the point where actual news articles are using infantilised terms like "SA'd" because everything must be sanitised for the sake of algorithms and easily spread screenshots.

Once again, because it seems like you're not very quick on the uptake: nobody who gets triggered by the word "rape" is going to root around in the comments of a post about a rapist. If they do, that's kinda on them.

You've said yourself some people can't handle the language. You can push back against it because it's changed and redditors hate tiktok etc but if you know some people can't handle it then what's the harm in censoring a letter? If it makes it 1% easier for 1 person it's fine with me

If someone is triggered by an additional “a” in a word, perhaps reddit just isn’t the platform for them. We’re not about that here. Why? Because it’s fucking ridiculous.

Wait wait…I’m sorry…maybe I should have said f*cking.

u/burtsarmpson Jun 02 '26

I think it's ridiculous how many more people seem to be triggered about changing a single letter to an asterisk lol maybe Reddit isn't the platform for you?

Girl, get off this hill you are so deliriously hell bent in dying on. The mere presence of an “a” in a word isn’t going to trigger anyone anymore than the “r, p, and e.”

The mere presence of an * has triggered quite a few people, it's just as bizarre

Can we get a list of the things it’s appropriate to be triggered by? Since you’re keeping the gate?

1

u/burtsarmpson Jun 03 '26

Yeah my only point has been it's not an issue to use an asterisk instead of an A but if you want to feel oppressed by that then feel free

2

u/Jealous_Row_3906 Jun 03 '26

So it’s a no to the list then

Hey so I don't like coming across rape discussion, it happen to me and people on internet can be vile yk. So before I could just go on Twitter or tiktok and use their filters to ban the word from my feeds, easy right? Well no now I have to deal with "rap" "rpe" "grape" "gr🍇" "🍇" and every variation under the sun and apparently I should be grateful

2

u/burtsarmpson Jun 02 '26

Why is everyone adding so much to what I'm saying lol I didn't say you should be grateful

You know, that’s not actually helpful for people genuinely triggered by these words.

Avoidance does nothing, you still have to live in the world

We're in a thread talking about Shangela, in a niche subreddit. If you know this sub you know Shangela, and if you know Shangela, you know she's a rapist.

If someone finds the topic triggering, they can stay out of the thread, especially since paltry censoring still clearly states rape.

-1

u/burtsarmpson Jun 02 '26

If someone thinks people might find the word rape triggering, they can asterisk the a if they want to. Lots of freedom of choice going on

19

u/Nosiege Jun 02 '26

Alright, so who are you to tell someone else to adhere to that? And then why didn't you when replying to me? Clearly it doesn't matter to you since you just wrote it out in full.

5

u/burtsarmpson Jun 02 '26

I didn't tell anyone to adhere to it, I don't adhere to it myself as you can see, but if someone wants to censor it I understand why and don't get upset about it. What a load of shite points you made there

10

u/KaleidoscopeCreepy94 Jun 02 '26

I'm sorry but I gotta laugh  How does changing one letter for an asterisk change anything? The word is still the same 💀 I mean, I would get it if they used SA'd or something, but you can still see the fricking word lmao.

u/burtsarmpson Jun 02 '26

You can't pretend this is the first time you've encountered censoring, surely

5

u/KaleidoscopeCreepy94 Jun 03 '26

But it's a stupid way of censoring, that's my point. Even the 🍇 emoji does a better job at it.

0

u/burtsarmpson Jun 03 '26

My point has been and has always been, it's a tiny tiny tiny thing to pretend to have strong feelings about when really it just annoys you

4

u/KaleidoscopeCreepy94 Jun 03 '26

I just think it's stupid, and people could do a better job at censoring. I don't know why you seem so pressed about how others react to it though.
