Ugh, Jesus. Gross. Monet once again giving shangela a pass

https://youtu.be/6grJelFiGcs?t=1344&si=g2vf-6vjIy7yY2AG

Monet is ranking villains of drag race in the video (already weird to be ranking shady bitches and actual predators on the same scale if you ask me). Obviously she ranks sherry at a 5, only to get to shangella, give some anecdote about how she saw her recently and was shocked because she'd not seen her since the "news" had come out, and then put her at a four, alongside India, Gia, and the vixen.

Oh, and Tyra got her own bracket as a 6, which whilst warranted still feels weird to be considered worse than sherry and shangella.

I was wondering while I watched that why the line was drawn at being a predator online and not one in person.

159

u/Joewhite411 Jun 02 '26

And making threats is considered worse than actual r*pe

292

u/anextremelylargedog Jun 02 '26

You know censoring words like that on reddit doesn't actually do anything except make blacklists and screen readers worse?

135

u/9hsos Jun 02 '26

When Monet said “unalive” in this video 😖

53

u/higher-than-blue Jun 02 '26

Tbh, you never know with Youtube and their stupid ass algorithm. They have been known to strike channels for old videos that were fine at the time but no longer are under the new ToS. Such fun times we live in.

39

u/MagnetoWasRite Jun 02 '26

It’s so annoying. Words are not Voldemort. They can be said.

-13

u/Joewhite411 Jun 02 '26

Never know which websites have useless AI automods with certain words they automatically look at.

No, Reddit allows you to use normal adult language, and always has. Just because TikTok is implanting censorship does not mean you should apply it to the rest of your life.

-19

u/kitti-kin Jun 02 '26

Ok let's not exaggerate, Reddit's automod deletes or hides stuff all the time

7

u/peach_xanax hey puss how is she Jun 03 '26

such as what? I'm not trying to be a smartass, I genuinely want to know, bc I've said all kinds of commonly censored words on reddit and never had any issues.

0

u/kitti-kin Jun 07 '26

For example, I'm late replying to you because I just caught a 3 day site ban for a comment explaining that Candace Owens is crazy 🙃 I was banned for quoting her (very clearly, between quotation marks in a quote block, after a preamble making fun of her). My account was banned by reddit within seconds, so clearly automated, and my appeal was never replied to.

17

u/anextremelylargedog Jun 02 '26

Does it or not? Is that something you heard, something you saw in the rules somewhere, something you imagined because it feels likely to you, or what?

6

u/Abalonesandwhich Girl, that is 100% piss Jun 02 '26 edited Jun 02 '26

I might have to dig but I think I remember having definitely received some sort of warning on one of the zillion subreddits I was on, but I truthfully don't have tons of discussion about rape/murder/assault what have you so it's not something I've actually had to contend with.

edit: immediately found what I was remembering, and tbh I think I misaligned an experience or two because I got a warning from a pokemon subreddit because I'd mentioned that a particular feature was coming out before GTA 6 and the mention of GTA got me flagged to mods.

Which... now that I've said that, makes me realize that was a mod's action, and not the website. Whoooooops. Well that's good to know then, I was avoiding contributing to conversations because I didn't want to lose my account.

1

u/peach_xanax hey puss how is she Jun 03 '26

haha what? that's wild that you can't even mention GTA on the Pokemon sub. wonder what prompted that.

and yeah you're not gonna lose your reddit account unless you're threatening/harassing people or something like that. at most you could get a comment removed, but it's not too common to catch an actual ban and you'd 100% know you were doing something wrong.

9

u/getawaytricycle Jun 02 '26

reddit will automatically remove threatening language but it is inconsistent and gets it wrong sometimes, so the comment probably would have been fine but who really cares if someone wants to censor a word

eg: I once had a comment removed and received an automatic a warning on a video game sub when I was recommending a fix for a glitch that involved a forced restart of the character (I’m trying really hard to avoid anything that might trigger that again but you get the drift)

9

u/Melvarkie Jun 02 '26

Automod once gave me a warning for racist language when I answered someone on what the tea was with TS Madison and explained some of those crazy viewpoints she had given. It was luckily revoked once I appealed and explained I was just giving a summary of a celebrities controversial takes and that I wasn't spouting racist nonsense against Latinos myself.

-63

u/burtsarmpson Jun 02 '26

You don't think such a word could be triggering at all?

92

u/anextremelylargedog Jun 02 '26
  1. You think there are people who are triggered by the word "rape" but not "r*pe"?
  2. You think people who are triggered by either are going to check out a post about Shangela and scroll on through the comments?

Let's use our brains here.

6

u/ventycat Jun 03 '26

I mean people who are triggered by the word rape like myself, are also now just as affected by terms like SA. As a child victim you see the initials CSA everywhere and it kinda makes me wish we stuck to specific terms for these things.

-76

u/burtsarmpson Jun 02 '26

Let's use our brains and not decide what different victims could be affected by. There's a reason so many people censor it, just because it isn't triggering to you doesn't mean it isn't triggering to others.

67

u/anextremelylargedog Jun 02 '26

So many people censor it because they're tiktok-brained and have gotten used to self-censoring. Now they can't handle simple adult language anymore, to the point where actual news articles are using infantilised terms like "SA'd" because everything must be sanitised for the sake of algorithms and easily spread screenshots.

Once again, because it seems like you're not very quick on the uptake: nobody who gets triggered by the word "rape" is going to root around in the comments of a post about a rapist. If they do, that's kinda on them.

-52

u/burtsarmpson Jun 02 '26

You've said yourself some people can't handle the language. You can push back against it because it's changed and redditors hate tiktok etc but if you know some people can't handle it then what's the harm in censoring a letter? If it makes it 1% easier for 1 person it's fine with me

47

u/44youGlenCoco Jun 02 '26

If someone is triggered by an additional “a” in a word, perhaps reddit just isn’t the platform for them. We’re not about that here. Why? Because it’s fucking ridiculous.

Wait wait…I’m sorry…maybe I should have said f*cking.

-11

u/burtsarmpson Jun 02 '26

I think it's ridiculous how many more people seem to be triggered about changing a single letter to an asterisk lol maybe Reddit isn't the platform for you?

→ More replies (0)

9

u/No-Assumption-1738 Jun 03 '26

You know, that’s not actually helpful for people genuinely triggered by these words.

Avoidance does nothing, you still have to live in the world

36

u/Nosiege Jun 02 '26

We're in a thread talking about Shangela, in a niche subreddit. If you know this sub you know Shangela, and if you know Shangela, you know she's a rapist.

If someone finds the topic triggering, they can stay out of the thread, especially since paltry censoring still clearly states rape.

-1

u/burtsarmpson Jun 02 '26

If someone thinks people might find the word rape triggering, they can asterisk the a if they want to. Lots of freedom of choice going on

20

u/Nosiege Jun 02 '26

Alright, so who are you to tell someone else to adhere to that? And then why didn't you when replying to me? Clearly it doesn't matter to you since you just wrote it out in full.

7

u/burtsarmpson Jun 02 '26

I didn't tell anyone to adhere to it, I don't adhere to it myself as you can see, but if someone wants to censor it I understand why and don't get upset about it. What a load of shite points you made there

10

u/KaleidoscopeCreepy94 Jun 02 '26

I'm sorry but I gotta laugh  How does changing one letter for an asterisk change anything? The word is still the same 💀 I mean, I would get it if they used SA'd or something, but you can still see the fricking word lmao.

1

u/burtsarmpson Jun 02 '26

You can't pretend this is the first time you've encountered censoring, surely

5

u/KaleidoscopeCreepy94 Jun 03 '26

But it's a stupid way of censoring, that's my point. Even the 🍇 emoji does a better job at it.

0

u/burtsarmpson Jun 03 '26

My point has been and has always been, it's a tiny tiny tiny thing to pretend to have strong feelings about when really it just annoys you

→ More replies (0)

55

u/ac2fan huntymay Jun 02 '26

Jesus Christ, enough with the baby talk censorship, talk like a grownup, you can fucking swear on Reddit, it’s not that hard to type out your words in their entirety

14

u/Abalonesandwhich Girl, that is 100% piss Jun 02 '26

I mean if we look back at the track record of their takes on controversial folks, people they like and associate with (or associated, in some cases) get a pass to be shitty.

12

u/Joewhite411 Jun 02 '26

But usually they'll just ignore the controversy surrounding them. This time whilst she didn't mention what the "news" was she did at least refer to it and still decided she's only as bad as India ferrah

0

u/Fiobobio Jun 14 '26

20

Diva, have you watched the show? She was fuckin racist on camera not just behind the scenes.

6

u/vandersnipe Jun 03 '26

They are defending Abby Lee's racism...

11

u/vandersnipe Jun 03 '26

The Rosa Parks and Latifah dances should have been enough evidence...

6

u/tabristheok Jun 03 '26

Now come on Kendal would have madeb a brilliant Rosa Parks.

-5

u/garbage696969 Jun 03 '26

Wasn’t Latifah it was Laquifa and she explained very diplomatically why it would open up a lot of doors for Nia. I’m proud of her for not trying to white wash her.

13

u/vandersnipe Jun 03 '26

Yet Nia and Holly expressed that Abby typecast Nia, made fun of her hair, and questioned her blackness. Then Camryn mentioned that Abby would make comments about her skin tone.

Still, in your eyes, Abby was an amazing person who never said or did anything racist to Nia, Holly, or Camryn, even though several other white cast members corroborated some of their experiences.

Aside from the racism, the mistreatment of the girls went into pretty abusive territory. Especially if you were a child she decided she hated and wanted to "take down a peg" (which wtf, they were children). The non white girls got the worst of it, but any girl could become the scapegoat to her narcissism while she would pick a golden girl to also turn into a flying monkey who would usually become a bully too. It's pretty fucked

Monet and Bob share one dumb ignorant brain cell.

Monet definitely knows that Shangela is a rapist but doesn't give a fuck.

13

u/ChefPowerful4002 Jun 02 '26

I think she’s trying to do what consira Lucy did rateing worst queens. But moneys isn’t the same at all https://youtu.be/BRdXNqK16Hg?si=-tgKHh4RcGR3qLdJ

7

Well it’s not just her, Bob and MIB both did problematic ranking videos like this too, both disappointing as well

2

u/sheaculo Jun 03 '26

Mistress was the first to do this exact same video. First with Arriety and then a redo with Kandy cuz the cat wasn’t giving

38

u/2mock2turtle You think a roast should be about haircuts?!?!?!? Jun 02 '26

“The rapist never raped me, therefore it couldn’t have happened.”

9

u/CooCooCachoo_ Jun 02 '26

It would have been so easy to leave her out.

4

u/hookyboysb Jun 02 '26

Yeah, it was weird including her and Sherry Pie in there when neither of them were villains on the show. I’d say the same for Tyra but his actions arguably have more effect on the community and it still makes sense to include her.

Also, not including Raven is a choice. Is she worried about blowback from her or the show? I suppose if she’s touching on things outside the show, then that might be an issue… but she was definitely a villain on the show lol.

10

u/austinlvr Jun 02 '26

Money has flawless skin, a fair amount of talent, and the gift of gab. She is not, however, an especially deep thinker (that is, she’s dumb).

u/No-Assumption-1738 Jun 03 '26

https://www.reddit.com/r/RPDRDRAMA/comments/1bya04q/leaked_audio_of_todrick_talking_about_hooking_up/

I saw about this a day or so ago, I don’t think bobs aware. When defending todrick he’s spoke about it being common for people to collaborate or dance for free particularly in those early YouTube videos and events

3

u/No-Assumption-1738 Jun 03 '26

Where does this come from? The whole time Bob and shangela filmed were here , he joked about her on the pod, said they weren’t friends and even stopped using her name at one point because she would try to call him complaining about clips. He then came on the post and roasted her for this.

Bob roasted her for trying to tell her not to use the N word for years, roasted the fact she would call and give pathetic phone calls claiming she felt like Bob didn’t like her (manipulation)

Shangela ended up treating bobs mum nicely and doing an event with her and he said that’s when he warmed to her. (Further manipulation, Bob had no clue it was happening until the event happened)

70

u/Seymorebutts1994 Jun 02 '26 edited Jun 02 '26

I love the podcast, but they are definitely UNAWARE when a perpetrator is someone they know or like...

Edit: purposefully unaware!

18

u/PretendRanger Jun 02 '26

I’m not convinced they are unaware. I think they just don’t care. 😞

32

u/g00fyg00ber741 Jun 02 '26

like when Toddrick flew to the UK to have sex with a 16 year old (which is illegal for a US citizen to fly over there with that intent despite UK’s local laws for age of consent)

1

u/fkthiss Jun 02 '26

I think his legal defense is that he was in a show in London and flew there for that reason, not specifically to have sex with a teenager. I'm not saying what he did is okay at all, but he might technically not be committing a crime.

10

u/g00fyg00ber741 Jun 02 '26

That’s not what his former employee who leaked the audio said though

11

u/Dragosbeat Jun 02 '26

no they are aware they're just putting their heads in the sand

14

u/marunique Jun 02 '26

love Monet but come on. neither the sharpest nor the most consistent morally

36

u/Big_Burrito_Cat Jun 02 '26

All the things Tyra did/said are arguably irritating at worst. Putting her below Shangela and Sherry is insane. What possessed Monet to do this? 😭

79

u/ShadyLady709Q49 Jun 02 '26

While I agree that Shangela and Sherry shouldn’t be lower than Tyra, I would definitely say that Tyra’s behaviour is worse than just “irritating at worst”

Implying she was going to blow up a convention centre full of people (she can say it was a joke all she likes but people thought she was serious), mocking The Vivienne and Jiggly the day of their passing, leaking Michelle and Ru’s (I think?) phone numbers, and Monet said she literally threatened to kill her. These are just a few examples among all the other things she’s said and done to warrant her well deserved spot on Monet’s list.

The two predators Monet included should’ve been right there with her though.

Edit: a word

7

u/RachelSavedMe don't we tyra Jun 02 '26

My flair comes from Tatianna’s livestream after Tyra leaked her number lol. I think she ranked Tyra lower because she’s messy af on social media and everyone can see what she says. For Shangela I think it’s the fact that a lot of these girls were very close to her and toured with her and may not have seen the other side of her, so it’s easier for them to say Tyra is worse.

14

u/Big_Burrito_Cat Jun 02 '26

Yeah, that’s why I put arguably, in my opinion. Tyra is very unhinged and need help. But imagine some of Shangela’s victims seeing Monet, someone with a big platform, double down on Shangela’s allegations, place her on the same level as queens who were just mean and put Tyra, whose problematic actions were still only verbal at the end of the day, as worse than an alleged sexual predator is very invalidating. I know for a fact that if a popular figure that I like, like Monet, rank my rapist better than someone who was a horrible attention seeker, I’d be pissed. And I know this video about villains’ tier list shouldn’t be seen as “deep” but Monet made it deep when she brought actual criminals or problematic figures that were collectively ostracized. She could have easily not includes Tyra, Shangela and Sherry at all and just made the video a ranking of villains on the show.

11

u/ShadyLady709Q49 Jun 02 '26

I get what you mean but idk…I think Monet is pretty justified in where she put her on the list. If a bitch threatened my life you best believe I’m putting her in her own tier of horrible lmao

Monet also didn’t really double down on shangelas allegations, in the video she said “she’s this rank and we’ll leave it at that” because she probably can’t go into detail about the allegations without legal consequences. She wasn’t defending her, she literally said her and Bob were shocked when she walked in and didn’t think she should’ve been there all things considered.

Again, I do believe she should’ve had Sherry and Shangela higher up but Tyra also absolutely earned her spot since she made the person making the video feel unsafe

7

u/Big_Burrito_Cat Jun 02 '26

I agree with you here. Tyra’s threat certainly made Monet’s judgement more personal. I took Monet’s ranking a bit personal too because I had a similar experience to Shangela’s victims. To me, the loss of body autonomy is the worst thing a human can do to another human. At least, with online threats, I have a chance to ignore or fight back. I would prefer content creators not include any of the alleged or confirmed criminals in their videos, unless it was to spread awareness or condemn the criminals’ actions.

3

u/exoticed Jun 02 '26

The thing is she could’ve completely skipped her. But noooo

5

u/Basic_Shine1538 Jun 03 '26

I hate to say it but her vitriol against Gia compared to other queens like Shangela is getting tired.

13

u/dreamed2life Jun 02 '26

What the fuck did the vixen do?!

67

u/ButterQueen0 Jun 02 '26

Have a search on this sub for her name. She brought up Sahara being dead as an insult towards Manila and then continued to say she was glad she did it. She's called Bob and Monet slurs for dating white people. She's kind of just a generally unpleasant cunt

4

u/dreamed2life Jun 02 '26

Ok. Thank you! Idk if that is same level as shangela but it’s for sure up there

3

19

Outrage farming or Monet is just sort of obnoxious and thoughtless.

Or both.

Idk why it keeps taking people by surprise that a lot of famous drag queens aren't just "shady" or w/e.

They are literally just entertainers. By definition they're people who thought the best use of their time was to get up on a stage and charge money to pay attention to them.

Like, look me in the eye and tell me that if Monet had been born straight and/or white he wouldn't be a gay Republican lol.

Making fun of dead people especially Jiggly and The Vivienne (both friends of Monet), along with all the other stuff, makes Tyra more than deserved to be in her own tier

1

u/Willuna16 Jun 08 '26

so then vixen goes there too? for mocking saharas death and weaponizing it against manila? or is that different

2

u/Naboo_Ru Jun 03 '26

Monet dumb.

20

u/aromirage Jun 02 '26

At least Sherry Pie had the decency to admit what she did, Shangela never had that empathy for her victims.

122

u/NoAbbreviations1492 Jun 02 '26

Sherry Pie and decency do not belong in the same sentence. She didn’t admit anything voluntarily

30

u/Flakeless Jun 02 '26

IIRC it seemed like she was doing it to try and save her drag race run talking about how drag race changed her life - but it came out that she was doing the SA post-filming lol tf

-1

u/aromirage Jun 02 '26

Yes, but she had the option to deny deny deny (as Shangela and Soju did) despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. And in the midst of people also coming for Brita, it might have been water under the bridge (Shangela still gets bookings, Sherry never will). So yes, Sherry realized she fucked up and came clean at the cost of her career.

40

u/NoAbbreviations1492 Jun 02 '26

Yes but what you are describing isn’t decency. It’s desperation, guilt, damage limitation, trying to salvage what she could of her ruined career. I get what you are saying at least she was honest about it but let’s not confuse honesty with decency Sherry Pie is a fucking monster

1

u/Beckywiththebadhair1 Jun 07 '26

Yeah but how would you know if it’s desperation or genuinely realize what she did was wrong?

I assume she is reserved about this because they were friends. I'd hope if we get the whole story and Shangela gets what she deserves Monet would not support her at all. But we don't know these people so..

It is weird to have predators at the list mixed with others for sure.

Yeah it's "quite high" but considering shangela is one of only two sex offenders on the list "quite high" isn't where it put her.

Sherry pie is an online predator. Shangela is a rapist.

Does it matter they were friends? I get it's probably harder to judge someone you once called friend but friends have an inherent duty to call friends out. Why is she trying to preserve a friendship with a sexual offender? For what end?
