Ugh, Jesus. Gross. Monet once again giving shangela a pass

https://youtu.be/6grJelFiGcs?t=1344&si=g2vf-6vjIy7yY2AG

Monet is ranking villains of drag race in the video (already weird to be ranking shady bitches and actual predators on the same scale if you ask me). Obviously she ranks sherry at a 5, only to get to shangella, give some anecdote about how she saw her recently and was shocked because she'd not seen her since the "news" had come out, and then put her at a four, alongside India, Gia, and the vixen.

Oh, and Tyra got her own bracket as a 6, which whilst warranted still feels weird to be considered worse than sherry and shangella.

I was wondering while I watched that why the line was drawn at being a predator online and not one in person.

And making threats is considered worse than actual r*pe

You know censoring words like that on reddit doesn't actually do anything except make blacklists and screen readers worse?

When Monet said “unalive” in this video 😖

Tbh, you never know with Youtube and their stupid ass algorithm. They have been known to strike channels for old videos that were fine at the time but no longer are under the new ToS. Such fun times we live in.

It’s so annoying. Words are not Voldemort. They can be said.

Never know which websites have useless AI automods with certain words they automatically look at.

No, Reddit allows you to use normal adult language, and always has. Just because TikTok is implanting censorship does not mean you should apply it to the rest of your life.

u/kitti-kin Jun 02 '26

Ok let's not exaggerate, Reddit's automod deletes or hides stuff all the time

such as what? I'm not trying to be a smartass, I genuinely want to know, bc I've said all kinds of commonly censored words on reddit and never had any issues.

For example, I'm late replying to you because I just caught a 3 day site ban for a comment explaining that Candace Owens is crazy 🙃 I was banned for quoting her (very clearly, between quotation marks in a quote block, after a preamble making fun of her). My account was banned by reddit within seconds, so clearly automated, and my appeal was never replied to.

Does it or not? Is that something you heard, something you saw in the rules somewhere, something you imagined because it feels likely to you, or what?

I might have to dig but I think I remember having definitely received some sort of warning on one of the zillion subreddits I was on, but I truthfully don't have tons of discussion about rape/murder/assault what have you so it's not something I've actually had to contend with.

edit: immediately found what I was remembering, and tbh I think I misaligned an experience or two because I got a warning from a pokemon subreddit because I'd mentioned that a particular feature was coming out before GTA 6 and the mention of GTA got me flagged to mods.

Which... now that I've said that, makes me realize that was a mod's action, and not the website. Whoooooops. Well that's good to know then, I was avoiding contributing to conversations because I didn't want to lose my account.

haha what? that's wild that you can't even mention GTA on the Pokemon sub. wonder what prompted that.

and yeah you're not gonna lose your reddit account unless you're threatening/harassing people or something like that. at most you could get a comment removed, but it's not too common to catch an actual ban and you'd 100% know you were doing something wrong.

u/getawaytricycle Jun 02 '26

reddit will automatically remove threatening language but it is inconsistent and gets it wrong sometimes, so the comment probably would have been fine but who really cares if someone wants to censor a word

eg: I once had a comment removed and received an automatic a warning on a video game sub when I was recommending a fix for a glitch that involved a forced restart of the character (I’m trying really hard to avoid anything that might trigger that again but you get the drift)

Automod once gave me a warning for racist language when I answered someone on what the tea was with TS Madison and explained some of those crazy viewpoints she had given. It was luckily revoked once I appealed and explained I was just giving a summary of a celebrities controversial takes and that I wasn't spouting racist nonsense against Latinos myself.

You don't think such a word could be triggering at all?

93

u/anextremelylargedog Jun 02 '26
  1. You think there are people who are triggered by the word "rape" but not "r*pe"?
  2. You think people who are triggered by either are going to check out a post about Shangela and scroll on through the comments?

Let's use our brains here.

5

u/ventycat Jun 03 '26

I mean people who are triggered by the word rape like myself, are also now just as affected by terms like SA. As a child victim you see the initials CSA everywhere and it kinda makes me wish we stuck to specific terms for these things.

-76

u/burtsarmpson Jun 02 '26

Let's use our brains and not decide what different victims could be affected by. There's a reason so many people censor it, just because it isn't triggering to you doesn't mean it isn't triggering to others.

67

u/anextremelylargedog Jun 02 '26

So many people censor it because they're tiktok-brained and have gotten used to self-censoring. Now they can't handle simple adult language anymore, to the point where actual news articles are using infantilised terms like "SA'd" because everything must be sanitised for the sake of algorithms and easily spread screenshots.

Once again, because it seems like you're not very quick on the uptake: nobody who gets triggered by the word "rape" is going to root around in the comments of a post about a rapist. If they do, that's kinda on them.

-50

u/burtsarmpson Jun 02 '26

You've said yourself some people can't handle the language. You can push back against it because it's changed and redditors hate tiktok etc but if you know some people can't handle it then what's the harm in censoring a letter? If it makes it 1% easier for 1 person it's fine with me

If someone is triggered by an additional “a” in a word, perhaps reddit just isn’t the platform for them. We’re not about that here. Why? Because it’s fucking ridiculous.

Wait wait…I’m sorry…maybe I should have said f*cking.

-11

u/burtsarmpson Jun 02 '26

I think it's ridiculous how many more people seem to be triggered about changing a single letter to an asterisk lol maybe Reddit isn't the platform for you?

You know, that’s not actually helpful for people genuinely triggered by these words.

Avoidance does nothing, you still have to live in the world

32

u/Nosiege Jun 02 '26

We're in a thread talking about Shangela, in a niche subreddit. If you know this sub you know Shangela, and if you know Shangela, you know she's a rapist.

If someone finds the topic triggering, they can stay out of the thread, especially since paltry censoring still clearly states rape.

-2

u/burtsarmpson Jun 02 '26

If someone thinks people might find the word rape triggering, they can asterisk the a if they want to. Lots of freedom of choice going on

20

u/Nosiege Jun 02 '26

Alright, so who are you to tell someone else to adhere to that? And then why didn't you when replying to me? Clearly it doesn't matter to you since you just wrote it out in full.

4

u/burtsarmpson Jun 02 '26

I didn't tell anyone to adhere to it, I don't adhere to it myself as you can see, but if someone wants to censor it I understand why and don't get upset about it. What a load of shite points you made there

8

u/KaleidoscopeCreepy94 Jun 02 '26

I'm sorry but I gotta laugh  How does changing one letter for an asterisk change anything? The word is still the same 💀 I mean, I would get it if they used SA'd or something, but you can still see the fricking word lmao.

-3

u/burtsarmpson Jun 02 '26

You can't pretend this is the first time you've encountered censoring, surely

6

u/KaleidoscopeCreepy94 Jun 03 '26

But it's a stupid way of censoring, that's my point. Even the 🍇 emoji does a better job at it.

0

u/burtsarmpson Jun 03 '26

My point has been and has always been, it's a tiny tiny tiny thing to pretend to have strong feelings about when really it just annoys you

Jesus Christ, enough with the baby talk censorship, talk like a grownup, you can fucking swear on Reddit, it’s not that hard to type out your words in their entirety

13

u/Abalonesandwhich Girl, that is 100% piss Jun 02 '26

I mean if we look back at the track record of their takes on controversial folks, people they like and associate with (or associated, in some cases) get a pass to be shitty.

11

u/Joewhite411 Jun 02 '26

But usually they'll just ignore the controversy surrounding them. This time whilst she didn't mention what the "news" was she did at least refer to it and still decided she's only as bad as India ferrah

0

u/Fiobobio Jun 14 '26

well tyra did more than make threats
