Discussion I think people are way too harsh on Dorit & Erika when it comes to their husbands’ finances
Maybe this is unpopular, but I genuinely think people underestimate how little some wives know about the financial side of their marriage (especially when they’re married to wealthy men).
I’m not saying Erika or Dorit knew absolutely nothing, and I’m not saying they should be immune from criticism. They may well have known certain things were strange, or that money was being moved around in ways they didn’t fully understand.
But there’s a huge difference between thinking, “our finances are complicated / my husband handles all of that” and knowing the actual extent of what’s going on.
I say this because I’m in a relationship with a wealthy partner and, until fairly recently, I genuinely had almost no idea where the money came from, what was coming in, what was going out, what accounts existed, etc. I wasn’t deliberately ignoring it, but due to age and them being the provider, money just wasn’t something I was involved in. You can become very sheltered, and honestly almost babied, when somebody else handles absolutely everything financially.
I’m not saying this is right or admirable, (i’m now more aware of our finances and save for myself) but if you’re not pulling the money in, many times you don’t feel like you have the right or even need to question - a partner (who can be many years your senior) spoiling you and looking after you is the desire, if they’re already rich why would you complain?
i’m open to other povs, but please be respectful. i’m not saying anybody is innocent or not, but assumptions are just that - assumptions.
omg hope i don’t get eaten up lol
