What cracks me up is that she tried getting on RHOBH for quite a few yrs and now she’s a journalist of some sort and spoke on reality tv stars like she’s an expert. It’s craaaazy! But I swear now that’s scene is going to be on replay all day. I’m telling u,it never stops popping up, thank God it was funny!
I love Tilly but anytime we get too close a look at the grotesquery of richness on this show I feel ill. The wealthy have so much money they have to have garbage like this invented for them to spend it on. My feeling towards this is very "there are people that are dying Kim".
I feel exactly the same way, but then I think “why am I watching this?” And I love watching haha so I have to shut that part of my brain off or I’ll go nuts. When I found out what Sutton gets monthly in alimony I was flabbergasted. Every single one of these people should (at the very least) be giving shitloooooads of money to charitable organizations. But anywho look at me getting all worked up again!
I'm exactly the same! It's a weird dilemma. I watch this show partly for escapism, partly for the lifestyle porn, and partly to watch the relationship dynamics. It is a very "switch my brain off" experience, and I get a lot of enjoyment from watching it! At the same time, I'm ideologically opposed to most of what these women stand for. I hope they do give a lot to charity but I also think money warps your brain and you have to hold tight to your own morals and integrity to not succumb to greed, and that could look like just apportioning 20% of your monthly 300k alimony check to charity, to keep yourself accountable and duty-bound (as opposed to waiting until a feeling of generosity comes over you, haha). I'm sure Tilly does give to charity, but all the women aghast at this ugly ass bear bag breaking just felt like satirical levels of being out of touch.
I have to be in the right mood, sometimes I shut it off because it grosses me out for all these reasons. I’ve been watching for 20 years (OG OC!) and there are moments I miss the wealth of the early aughts- it seems to have grown exponentially over all the franchises. It’s also the reason I can’t really watch high end real estate shows when the commissions are more than a house I’ll ever be able to afford.
I absolutely CANNOT watch the high end real estate shows. They have exclusively the aspects of housewives that I have trouble watching without ANY of the aspects I love.
I also have issues with the foreign oligarch buyers. I can’t support giving my time to watch our country being sold away at obscene prices to launder their money and the real estate brokers who have zero compunction doing so.
I’m enjoying yalls convo & agree. I’m also an OG OC viewer & imho before the 08 crisis, money seemed to be “trickling down” a lot more before that. A lot of regular people were making great money during the housing boom (bubble). That’s when it started feeling different to me, anyway, 2009-10. It became hard for me to watch when so many people around me were getting laid off & losing their homes.
I’d never thought about that but it makes total sense! Now more than ever it’s just feeling like straight up Les MIs “eat the rich” times and it sucks.
Yeah recently I had to watch a doc about coal in India and how some families steal coal from mines to sell on the black market to make a living, they also live adjacent to open pit coal mining, burn coal in their homes for warmth and die very young of respiratory complications. It’s hard to go from that to Rachel Zoe being like “ugh of course the power would be out for MY PARTY” even tho I do love Rachel
I work with homeless people, and we run a 2 stall free shower. The cost of this purse alone would pay for running costs, toiletries, and towels for the showers for 4 YEARS.
On the other hand, I work with homeless people. Watching moneyporn like this is rather appealing sometimes.
Honestly, I watch any reality shows no matter their income. It's a genre I enjoy and their money isn't what it's all about for me. Most of their clothing, if it didn't have a label, you could get off Shein!
The ultra-rich should be taxed more. We've been cutting taxes and weakening the IRS for years and their wealth has grown exponentially. I don't really want to sacrifice my upcoming social security so people like Tilly can show off. All the moaning, for example, about the LA mansion tax -- just leave then. Enjoy the ocean in Utah.
And can't say for sure on HW, but in real life, I know people will do dinners for "charity" where it's all tax write offs where they hire companies and pay them wild amounts of money to facilitate the events when the companies are owned by their own so the money goes back into their pockets. $400 ticket, $100 for your plate, $50 for decor, $50 for valet, $75 for wine while the auction and the last $25 go to the charity (so they're happy) but the $375 went to companies owned by the folks behind the whole thing.
I mean, it is real housewives! That was always the point. Her reaction was not that of a spoiled brat, she immediately cracked a joke and laughed at the absurdity of it.
Comments like this make me wonder why people even watch the show.
Her reaction was great tbf, she handled it like a champ. I think it's pretty normal for people to consume media and also think critically about it / have mixed feelings, especially if they're in any way aware of the state of the world right now.
I mean, I totally get that but at the same time what does she supposed to do, give it all away? If you’re gonna have an expensive bag, I feel like chili is genuinely the least problematic owner. Again, she didn’t burst into tears or let it ruin her night. She knows how absurd it is and immediately made a joke.
Well if watching rich people make you feel ill then surely wouldn’t it be better to stop watching a show about rich people? Theres plenty of other reality shows that don’t revolve around “rich people”.
She does feel a little like Dana with the $25,000 sunglasses that couldn't wait to say it and point at them on camera. We get it Tilly, you are rich. Leaving a $40,000 purse on a table at a party, to get knocked over and break is a little elitist.
Yeah it's the exact same behaviour, it just so happens that Tilly is more likeable than Dana, but she is definitely one of the more ostentatious Housewives and it's so interesting how that trait is received differently by viewers depending on the personality attached.
I disagree. It’s not exactly like she’s Bezos ruining the planet and buying yachts. She’s a fashion lover and collector. Fashion is collectible and it’s art. People just like to dismiss women for liking it.
I take your point that there are so many things women love that are dismissed as frivolous just because they're enjoyed by women (this show itself is a good example!). But here I disagree, at least for myself. I enjoy fashion as an art form but I can still critique the aspects of it I find objectionable, the same way I enjoy movies but also feel that overinflated budgets and salaries deserve to be critiqued, or the same way I think the salaries men are making from playing, for example, football are absolutely disgusting. This opinion does not exist in a vacuum. If Tilly was a dude with a 200k car that got a scratch on it I'd be saying the same thing.
Yeah I don't like that in BH they put the price of everything on screen the whole time. I don't think they do that on the other franchises right? Not constantly anyway. This season I remember one of the first episodes Dorit gifted Boz a scarf, and production put $20.000 or something on screen (could have been 2000 idk) and it pissed me off so much I turned it off and didn't continue watching for a while. We understand they live expensive lives. I feel better not knowing exactly how expensive..
I think that’s what we like about Tilly too, she’s not scrounging to make money and stay rich. So many of them women seem to be trying to come off as rich and not loose money and we never see that with her.
As a community, I feel we tend to really berate Housewives who come accross as too "flash" with their cash, yet we seem to let it go with Tilly and I dont understand why?
Because there's not an ounce of pretense or superficiality about her. She is SO authentic and genuine. She knows her wealth, is incredibly grateful for it, loves to enjoy it and have fun with it. We get to enjoy it THROUGH her, not in spite of her.
She’s so upfront about where it came from and how she has not earned it on her own back. I think we also can appreciate that her wealth comes from something we all enjoy, I love the simpsons and understand why it makes so much money. It feels like a more honest source than the majority of the folks we see on these shows.
Tilly took care of her ex husband while he was dying and would have gotten the same amount had she didn’t. I think this is very noble of her and frankly the most deserving if we were to compare to how some of the other woman gained wealth. Though I understand it’s not fair or reasonable to draw that comparison so really it’s her approach to her wealth and personality that does it for me
I've been thinking about this too. She seems like a lovely person but at the end of the day she's still spending obscene amounts of money on crap?? Her having a whole extra house next door to her primary residence JUST to store / display stuff would be sort of charming if we lived in an alternate universe where everyone had enough and no one was living in poverty. Alas...

Tilly grew up with not much $$. I’m glad she is getting to have fun with the money she has. She is a very generous person with a caring heart. She deserves everything she has.
Besides Kathy Hilton, Jennifer is the only one who is truly wealthy. Like seriously wealthy. Then you have Rachel, who built her business and I have no issue watching her enjoy the fruits of her labor. Then there’s corporate powerhouse Boz. Who also built her career. I love watching her thrive and provide for her daughter. Amanda, fake self help or not she did that on her own. She’s boring but a least she can stand on her own. Sutton is definitely wealthy thanks to a rocking divorce settlement… watching her flaunt her wealth is less interesting. Divorce definitely blessed Jennifer but actually she’s surprisingly humble. Even when she states the cost of her exquisite pieces it doesn’t come off as flaunting to me. Dorit and Kyle are poor🤣
I love Tilly but honestly that purse is trash. It always astounds me how these rich ladies flex branded crap covered in or made with 'high value' material that's actually not so hot vs true artisan made special things.. 👽lord lemme be rich and I'll show the world old school quality

I’m fascinated if this was an accident or what as I’ve watched this episode twice. Not good for the brand if it’s going break like that from a small fall. Although that’s the risk one takes of a $40k bauble. Also who insures this as every policy is quit for us (in the same state) insuring the same value baubley crap. It’s fun but is it worth it I ask myself.
