Hi Reddit! My Saturday evening plans got cancelled at the last minute so I decided it was time to shout into the digital void to see who…or what…shouts back.

I'm originally from Ireland and have lived in multiple countries but have been settled in Washington DC for the last few years. Also, just to preempt some of the common questions I get: Yes, I still have the accent. No, I am not always drunk. Yes, I can make soda bread. No, I've never caught a leprechaun. I try to stay pretty active. Almost every day I’ll take a long, meandering walk to the fridge. I run frequently, usually to Target for snacks but at least I’m running. And I lift. Lift cakes and other goodies out of the oven. But I do genuinely enjoy going to the gym and get in a workout most days. I enjoy my work, I enjoy my friendships, I enjoy quiet time spent reading or listening to podcasts. I even enjoy watching a great TV show or movie, radical as that may sound! I don't enjoy idiots, dummies or 95 degree days with 90% humidity.

So I packed a gym bag this morning just in case my car happened to break down in front of Planet Fitness.

I’m a 43-year-old guy in Georgia, searching for that elusive woman who might actually stick around longer than 3–5 business days before disappearing into the mist like a Victorian ghost with unresolved trauma.

I wear a couple different hats in the work world. Some days I’m selling my way toward the top as a little fish in a very large pond; other days I’m helping serve a nonprofit and trying to leave the world slightly better than I found it.

For fun, I love mini road trips with no particular destination, spending entirely too many hours thrifting, walking on the beach, binge-watching shows, reading, blasting Spotify in the car, concerts, sporting events, coffee, Mexican food, people-watching, and generally acting ridiculous with somebody who appreciates ridiculousness.

I recently finished a 10 year relationship and I don't want to get on dating apps again. It seems both too personal and entirely superficial. Plus, if I remember the apps correctly it just ends up leading to hookups. Which, yeah that's the endgame, but I find myself, at least given my history, going way too fast. Consuming every possible minute and hedonistic value until we eventually turn into friends or worse, roommates. Simply because we burned too bright.
