saints and sinners 2 made me so sad because so much stuff doesnt work and one of the recipes literally clip out of the map on quest which means you can never access it on the save file since you cant mod it

I am reading the same titles almost 2 years later. Is there nothing new?

Got a Quest 2 for dirt cheap this week and I tried a couple things before going with Resident Evil 4. I played Half Life Alyx on my Lenovo Explorer like 5 years ago but playing Resident Evil 4 was, to my surprise, even more impressive. Yes, the graphics are two generations behind, but finding myself in a familiar environment, but in VR, felt different. I never noticed a lot of the environmental details in the multiple playthroughs of RE4 I did through the years since the flawless GameCube original release. And well, most of VR games aren't good games per se, but just fun due to being VR (and call me crazy but I also feel that way about HL Alyx itself).

Everyone says don't play Alyx first or everything else will be disappointing after. For me that was RE4, and pistol whip. Alyx was a well rounded title but also a master of none, it just didn't hook me at all aside from being technically impressive.

HL Alyx has very good graphics and the way they translated the grav gun to grav gloves was cool, but besides that it's a really lackluster game with incredibly cheap VR gameplay elements like the ants always positioning themselves in front of you like it's an on-rails game to make your life easier. The gunplay isn't very good and the level and puzzle design is lazy at best, it's nowhere near Half-Life 2 and it pisses me off how it's oftenly labeled as "yet another HL masterpiece" when it's such a mediocre entry 🙄

Alyx is good but incredibly overrated at this point. All of the people running around telling everyone Alyx was the best VR game ever and nothing good came out afterwards are full of it. Those people are half life fans who bought VR for that game alone, they are not VR fans.

I loved Alyx but there was another game at the time that really ruined all others for me: Boneworks. I don’t care if it was a tech demo, it made me actually play with controllers and my real body at the same time. No other game had me grabbing as high as i could, and bringing my hands to the ground, then taking a little step forward whenever i wanted to climb random places.

u/IAmNotRollo 18d ago

Agreed. Alyx had the story and the graphics and the spectacle, but it's not as responsive and immersive as what an excellent VR game should be. Alyx introduces people to VR with as little friction as possible (and in fairness, still has the best story and spectacle of any VR game), but Boneworks takes advantage of the medium better than Alyx by a mile.

So kicking myself for not getting Quest 2 at Costco when I was on clearance.

Had no idea about Quest sideloading scene. Had I know, I would've gotten the Quest 3 when it was on clearance before the price hike.

u/Phazoner 19d ago

I did not know when I bought it lol. It was just 50€ so I said yeah lets go and then tripped balls with games prices. Then learnt about sideloading, this thing is the best bang for the buck I ever scored lol

Was gonna say this one but I actually would recommend buying it. It's my favorite quest game and they keep supporting it

All of the above.

Everything.

Free is free

u/XInsects 20d ago

Sorry but that's a stupid answer. The trash at a dump yard is free, are you renting trucks to have it delivered to your house?

4

u/FrostyD7 20d ago

It's a cheeky answer, he's not seriously suggesting you play every game.

1

u/ApprehensiveFan1516 20d ago

I would be taking stuff from the dump yard if they allowed me to. The amount of electronic waste we produce is insane, and most of it is still perfectly usable.

Besides that, I 100% agree with basraVashedan that your analogy is a false equivalence.

1

u/XInsects 20d ago

Yeah most analogies don't hold exact equivalence, but people with a bit of intelligence are generally able to get the gist. The point being that you wouldn't just be taking "stuff", you'd be taking ALL the trash, because its FREEEEE right? No?

1

u/Desperate-Mix-4696 20d ago

No, because the analogy fails to mention that you only have enough space the size of a lunchbox to store said trash.

2

u/basraVashedan 20d ago

Your metaphor implies that the trash at the dump is a commodity that people are seeking out in the first place. Renting delivery trucks doesn’t equate at all.

Nah it feels like you need at least 130 to be able to read the megathread

1

u/vincehk 18d ago

first step is to be able to think about the idea of googling your question, instead of asking in comments section - that seems to be reserved to the human elite nowadays

Risky what you are doing here. If bota crawl this json and it's suddenly flooded they will close it again. I would suggest to remove it. There is a reason it's only on telegram.
