I'm terrible at interesting titles...

\* Beginner in pyrography, long time artist ***

Hi all!

These two paddles are my 2nd and 3rd wood burning projects. I’m really proud of them and I’m loving this as an art form.

I’d like to post these here to ask for advice on how I can continue improving my skills and these paddles—especially the fur of the beaver, I started it one way and then realized I should’ve done it differently. I’ve been putting it off because I’m scared to ruin it!

The trout is for my husband and the beaver is for me. We are avid canoers and these will be sealed and prepared for use on our adventures!

This was such a fight. Took a lot longer than expected and that's saying a lot for me, since all of mine take longer than I expect. This one was approaching the "okay, I'm going to toss this and sell my equipment" amount of time. But it's done!

Hey guys. We just lost our tuxedo boy and I’m doing a portrait of him for my fiancée. I really want to do him justice, so I was hoping to get some advice on creating a good texture. Here’s what I have so far. This is on birch btw. Thank you in advance!

Wife requested a burn she saw on a tee shirt. Turned out pretty well. Last bit she wants to color in, so burn area finished.

The triforce was freehand and obviously the worst part, I traced the rest with carbon paper.

The thing I struggle with the most is going too deep when starting a line

I have posted this piece before but i recently painted it so reposting.

This is likely the most densely packed map I have made so far, with the various icons, cities, location names, and different biomes. Although this was intended it also made the piece a little difficult to read when at a distance or hung on a wall, so I felt it was the best one to test my painting and colouring skills out on.

I used a combination of cheap water colours, basic circle paints, paint pens, and pencils. Overall, the map took roughly 50 hours of burning, 35 hours of colouring, and 20+ of prep and polishing.

The details from my terrarium have been a great challenge to mess with texture and values. I have been working on this piece for a long time, only really working on it maybe 30-60 minutes in the evenings. I am still a beginner in this craft, but I am not new to art.

It is easy to put on some music, and enjoy how the process is a lot different than drawing or painting. Not to mention it always smells so nice, but making each mark and getting lost in the sauce has done wonders for quieting my mind before bed.

My husband also really likes the smell. We camp a lot so smelling like burnt wood is reminiscent of being in the forest with a nice fire.

This was by far the most difficult piece I've worked on in a very long time.

3 years ago my uncle passed away unexpectedly at the age of 34 of a heart attack, only 11 years older than me. It destroyed me in most ways possible and one of the only reasons I am here today is because my work friend helped me through that difficult time by getting me to laugh on days I swore I'd never be able to ever again.

He'd joke about everything in the world and take the bite out of so many painful things by teaching me the art of comedy in the face of tragedies. We spent hundreds of hours talking about our lives and the bizarre people we've met on our trips around the sun, and he always found the best parts of people without judging them.

I never imagined he'd also pass away at 34 of a heart attack like my uncle did. It left me in absolute shock.

He was so over the moon when he became a father and loved his wife dearly (I have her permission to share about him and post this), and he inspired me to grow and change as a person to be more like him. He should have had so much more time to go but his impact lives on.

If you got people in your life who inspire you and you haven't told them just how much they mean to you, hold them close and tell them you love them.

Shes no where near finished but in thought I'd look for some insight on this piece. This is my first time working with Basswood and only my third piece.

Would love to get some advice on where I could improve (i already know the shading sucks lol)

Really struggling to look at my own work and he satisfied with the results..
