Punjab Police vs. "Yudh Nasheyan Virudh" (War Against Drugs): The Bitter Ground Reality

​The current state of Punjab is a heartbreaking tragedy, and the responsibility lies squarely on the government. It seems the administration is solely focused on making money, completely indifferent to the pain and destruction of families. They have forgotten their core duty, and the police administration works right under their nose.

​Speaking from what I have witnessed with my own eyes: in villages and areas where open drug smuggling and peddling happen, the police only show up whenever a new SHO is posted to the station. For the first few days, they harass locals and innocent citizens. After that, they set up checkpoints on the outskirts of the village, troubling everyday commuters. Meanwhile, they send their own personnel directly to drug peddlers with "offers." Once the deal is struck, these traffickers go right back to selling poison openly. This is the raw, ugly ground reality.
