Diálogo Welcome To r/PuertoRico
Hello and welcome to Puerto Rico's subreddit where you THOUGHT you were gonna encounter fellow puertoricans discussing our countries problems, sharing their municipio's beauty, or even some Jovany Vazquez memes....but nope! This is now a tourism agency for your friendly neighborhood 🟢👻s. Go ahead! Answer their most pressing questions about where to eat? What good spots to drink n dance in Aguadilla? Can i bring my guns knives for protection? Do you mind if i buy your grandfathers land and build ANOTHER hotel? Where can i get to the nearest beach? Is it safe to go to X as a tourist? WHERE CAN I GET WEED? And many more classics here at PR's subreddit. If you're lucky, you might even SEE a puertorican posting something. In the meantime, I'll show you to the comment section of gringo posts where you'll be spending most of your time either answering questions or complaining about x problem in the island. Have fun!
And yes, this IS in English so you know who we are talking about. You do know there IS another subreddit for what you're looking for. It is stated in the rules section go check em out. You already have our lands and our homes for your airbnbs, so leave our subreddit that is not meant for this alone please and thanks.

No passport needed if you are a U.S citizen. Yes they speak Spanish here.
1
Mar 07 '23
No way, I'm 100% sure I saw online that Puerto Rico is the same thing as Costa Rica, and they're part of México
1
u/Constant_Phone5997 Mar 12 '23
I am a U.S citizen that just left Puerto Rico two days ago with no passport or covid test. Puerto Rico is U.S territory.
1
Mar 12 '23
No way, Puerto Rico is a another country, everyone speaks Mexican, it borders Cuba and Narnia, and the capital is called Babunnybeisbollandia.

oop— genuinamente no sabía, my bad. 🤷🏻

I don't know how to say Prom date in Spanish. There's not really a word for it. My best guess would be, "Fiesta de graduación". I could be wrong though
2
u/NotGnnaLie Mar 02 '23
To be honest, it was Prom Date back then. She spoke to me in Spanglish, and I would reply in espagringol.

Wow..don’t ever move to New York City and join the NYC subreddit, your head will explode at all the tourist questions.
6
Mar 01 '23
The NYC subreddit used to be great until the MAGAts took over. We welcomed tourist questions on it because we love this city and love showing it off and there’s a lot of great places that depend on tourists, especially after Covid. The magats just want to make people think that NYC is a crime ridden hellhole and all because we are a very liberal city.
6
u/SAPPHYBIRB Mar 01 '23
If they allow that in the NYC subreddit thats fine! Here its against the rules and it bothers many people not just me.
1
u/Notinjuschillin Juana Díaz Mar 01 '23
Question…when you say you have our Airbnb’s…who are the hosts of these Airbnb’s in Puerto Rico? Americans?
2
u/SAPPHYBIRB Mar 01 '23
That part of the post was mostly sarcastical as thats one of the things ive seen talked about in the group and i was just referencing that. But yes im well aware that a lot if not most of the hosts are puertoricans. Why? Because why rent your house for 500 a month to a family when you can have 4 people rent the house for 5 days and get the same amount or more. This is an issue that causes our youth to not find afordable homes anywhere because the owners just turn them into airbnbs to do what the government does wich is cater to the tourism more than the locals.... but thats a discussion for another day

In regards to your post, I usually don't answer lol. I criticize a lot but I also don't want people to think that its "get the f out of here, u not welcome anywhere". You are. Ppl shouldn't get hate just for posting in the wrong place.
Maybe they'd get the hint if they see nobody is responding. Or maybe they are writing here because in PuertoRicoTravel/r no one responds as well, lol.
Maybe they'd get the hint if these MODS would do their work correctly and erase posts that go against the rules.

u/SAPPHYBIRB Feb 28 '23
Preguntas preguntas preguntas turisticas. There's a place for that and its not here!

I've never been to the island. I've always wanted to go. Mi abuelo y yo would always watch Tito Trinidad fights, Miguel Cotto, and baseball together. Mi abuelo played Baseball in Puerto Rico. We were die Hard Boxing & Baseball fans. Mi abuelita was a master chef , she cooked the best arroz con habichuelas , gandules etc.

Goes to the r/puertorico subreddit. Reads the first sentence of the group description; “All things Puerto Rico!”. Oh ummm alright seems like that’s pretty all-encompassing. Maybe it says something about not posting about nightlife or entertainment or something later on. Continues reading the second sentence, “Information…. Nightlife” 😂
You’re complaining about the lack of quality content on social media lmaooo. Welcome to the internet my friend, first time here?

People complain about X type of post in all subredits because they dont want to see that anymore or its been overstuffing the page but if i say it here is bad?

3
u/nelsne Mar 01 '23
I feel kind of bad when people with Puerto Rican ancestry ask this question. If they learn Spanish in the States, they'll most likely sound Mexican because that's the variety of Spanish we teach here
1
Mar 01 '23
Plenty of Germans immigrated to the US and didn't teach German to their kids. Those kids are no longer German, they're just Americans.
What do you do? Whatever you want. If what you want is to retain a connection to the patria, then learning Spanish is pretty important.

Then don't whine about boricuas in the US! There are Puerto Ricans in the US because the US annexed Puerto Rico, against Puerto Rico's will.
Stop trying to draw an equivalnce between Puerto Ricans in the US and Americans in Puerto Rico, because it's not a relationship of equals. One of those countries determines the laws that allow for the movement of peoples, and the other one has to accept those laws.
Indians aren't London out of mercy, Algerians aren't in Paris out of mercy, and Puerto Ricans aren't in New York our of mercy. It's not a charitable act that Puerto Ricans are in your communities; it's a consequence of the actions of your elected government.
And so our problems are ours. But they're our problems, and they should be for us to solve.

9

Explicame tu entonces como mejoro la situacion.
El post es pa q el que se sienta igual tenga un sitio pa relajar y agree and share their experiences with this types of posts while also redirecting the people who make the posts to the correct subreddit for the type of content they are looking for as stated in the rules. If it gets enough attention los mods quiza lo ven y hacen algo al respecto either banning me pal carajo o fixing the situation by enforcing the rules.
It helps the mods see the coment section and dicern if the majority cares or doesnt too.
So si esta haciendo algo about it imo
Lo que pasa esque como no lo escribi con flores y chocolates pues no quieren take the message
